Blade Lowton and Manchester City's Assulin Linked
Blade Lowton and Manchester City's Assulin Linked

Sheffield United’s Matt Lowton is reported to have been the reason for boss Paul Jewell’s trip to watch the Blades in action against Huddersfield on Tuesday, as revealed by TWTD. The Blues are also being linked with a loan move for Manchester City’s Israeli international winger Gai Assulin.

Town have been linked with 22-year-old Lowton since July when Blackpool were also said to be interested. Soon after, the South Yorkshire club were reported to have put a £4 million price tag on the right-back, centre-half or midfielder.

The Blues are said to be targeting the Chesterfield-born player initially on loan but with a view to a permanent deal.

Assulin, who was born in Israel to a Libyan father and a Russian mother, joined Manchester City on a free transfer from Barcelona in August 2010 when some reports rated him at around the £34 million mark.

Israel’s youngest-ever full international, Assulin played youth football in his home country with Hapoel Haifa and Beitar Nes Tubruk before joining the Catalan side’s youth set-up in 2003.

In 2007 the 5ft 10in tall attacking midfielder progressed into the Barcelona B team then run by current first team boss Pep Guardiola.

After a couple of seasons in the B team, one disrupted by a knee injury, Assulin made appearances for the senior side in friendlies and in the Copa del Rey before moving on to City with Arsenal also reported to be interested.

Capped just the one for his country, against Chile in 2008, the 20-year-old is yet to make a first team appearance since moving to England.

A wide midfielder, like a right-back such as Lowton, is very much on boss Jewell's current wish list.

Basil Smallpiece :- If the Almighty did let his son go out on loan, you and a few others on here would still find fault with the poor 5od [ your first objection would probably be that it was a loan and not permanent ] ! 2. Inexperienced ! 3. Dropping down from the Ultimate Premiership, he'd obviously be crap if he wasn't playing week on week in his rightful division ! 4. Obviously a hasbeen and living off his reputation ! 5. Money grabber ! Nearly forgot - Paul Jewell out { isn't that how it goes }

I think that we have a tendency at PR to get caught up in the fact that someone was worth £34M. Surely we have enough new players already and we need to start getting the exisiting squad to come out with some coherent performances before we over expose ourselves with a squad of players who dont know if they are playing from one week to the next.
Having said that, out of the two, I would be happy to see us get Lowton in with a view to a permanent move.

Tractorboybig - Lowton can play right back!
Anyway we have NO chance of getting Assulin as I heard reports that Barca were gutted that he left for city and they even referred to him as 'the new Messi' will be unbelievable if true but can't see it. Rated at £34million, look at the lower leagues not unrealistic targets!!!

What I take from this is that PJ knows what areas need addressing, and he is using his judgement to get the right people in. We still need two signings minimum to properly balance the squad. Back his judgement.

Great to see we are looking to the lower leagues and its nice to be linked with a plsyer like Assulin but the report does'nt mention wich one could cover as goalie.

We won't stop leaking goals until the constant right-back problem is sorted..unbelievable that we're still having to discuss this..i'm no manager but I can see this problem has been sticking out like a sore thumb since we stupidly let David Wright go.

PJ..get in a RB and stick to an 11..please!

Would be delighted if we got Lowton as he has much needed pace. Have my doubts whether Sheffield United will let him go especially if they have a chance of getting back into the Championship and Tuesday apart they are going in the right direction.

Good call on Assulin - we haven't signed enough frontmen this summer. Maybe one day we'll get one who can score a goal.

@basilsmallpiece I think from reading the match reports you'll find that Jesus was a goalie ... Good at the saves, but no records exist of him ever having scored.
Satan on the other hand was a prodigious scorer though his disciplinary record was very poor. The chanting from the terraces might also improve as it is well known that the Devil has all the best tunes. Unfortunately it is already well documented that the Elzebub is a Man United supporter.

Cue Leicester or possibly Portsmouth to hijack the deal.
