Collins: Tiredness Played a Part
Collins: Tiredness Played a Part
Monday, 24th Oct 2011 13:42

Defender Danny Collins says tiredness has played a part in this week's under par performances against Portsmouth and Crystal Palace. The Blues were fortunate to gain a 1-0 victory over Pompey last Tuesday but lost by the same scoreline to the Eagles on Saturday.

Collins said: “Maybe one or two of the boys were looking a little bit leggy. The manager certainly told us that we looked tired.

“We were a bit scruffy on the ball, I felt. In fact, I don’t remember us stringing four or five good passes together.

“Credit to them though, they caught us on the break. They’ve got pace out wide and they were quite direct.”

The on-loan Stoke man thought the Blues might have been awarded a penalty in the late incident which led to Aaron Cresswell speaking out of turn to referee David Phillips and receiving his second yellow card of the game: “I think Grant Leadbitter’s got there before the lad, played the ball and he’s gone through the back of him.

“You can see the referee has gone to put the whistle towards his mouth but has then realised it’s in the box and thought ‘I can’t give it’.”

Collins is on a 93-day loan with Town which is up after the Barnsley game on December 10th. The 31-year-old could return to Portman Road in January with both club and player having said they would be interested in continuing the arrangement.

Funnily enough Portsmouth and Palace didnt look that tired!

It really doesnt help the club wheeling out a player to come up with that!!

h32 - just checked some of your (very) previous posts and if we'd listened to you this time last year we'd be playing in League One by now. Calm down and stop guffing off so much (in capitals on Saturday - is that to be perceived as SHOUTING?). Try and enjoy the slow and structured rebuilding - from the multimillion quid mess your HERO left us in.

petermorris - got your facts right ????? - what a laugh !!

If you do get your ever facts right - you'll find I was one of RK's biggest critics - ask jas0999 for confirmation of that. Facts right please - or don't bother to post.

I agree with the idea that tiredness is an excuse, but at the same time our ageing midfield has played 3 games in quick succession. Still they are professionals, so should be ready for it.
However. All the doom and gloom on previous posts is completely unfounded. Before the Palace game we were top of the form league, and in the top six. One game does not make us a bad side. Millwall next and a victory will probably see us back up there. Only the most optimistic fans would have seen us in the top two, so if we are able to keep ourselves hanging around the top six, then I for one am happy. We have a decent squad, which will need a few additions in January, but there is no doubt that we will be there or thereabouts come May.

Not bothered. Watched both games at PR and we were annihilated by both teams but somehow managed to pick up 3 points. Portsmouth tore us to shreds and the 2 Palace lads on the wings exploited us non-stop.
3 points- 2 games. Good enough for me. We deserved 0 points and good thrashings to boot.
Should have been-
Ipswich-1-3 Portsmouth
Ipswich-0-5 Crystal Palace
That would have been more realistic I'm afraid.
Got a good chance in the next game, I hear Delaney is injured?

I wasnt at the portsmouth game, so cant say whether a 3-1 loss would have been fair? But 5-0 loss to palace, get a grip ERICA, what game did you see? yes we were poor , palace shredded us to bits down the flanks , and they defended very well but they hardly looked like they were going to score everytime they got the bal, did they??? Being tired is a piss poor excuse this early in the season Mr Collins. The fact is that it was just a very poor performance, too many players off form at once, i,m expecting a much better showing at Millwall & 3 points. I see Sven has left Leicester by mutual consent. Just goes to show how impatient owners/fickle fans can be.

h32 - dead right about Jordan Rhodes. Those of us with a bit of foresight knew that the swap with Priskin & shelling out (net) money for the deal was abig mistake. We now have something of a dad's army outfit which presumably is a short-term way of shoring things up - hence this pathetic 'tiredness' excuse. Needless to say if we did reach the prem. we would have to change virtually the whole squad to survive.

Dear Mr Collins

You are a professional footballer, and am sure a very well paid one at that. You are conditioned to play 40 to 50 games a year and what's more, you have played at the highest level for quite a while now.

So to say you are tired after only a quarter of the season's gone by is just poor poor poor excuse on your part.

Tired? Tired is when you are on your feet for 12 hours a day serving latte, espresso, ice blendeds etc and then having to wipe the tables, clean the floors and arrange the mugs before closing the shop. Try do that on average 6 days, week in week out!

Then, and maybe then, you are entitled to at least comment on being "tired"...

All we need is Zaha and Scannel we would then run away with this league hey?.
Sven has left Leicester, he was an awful high profile manager anyway, just like our ex dark Lord.
I think Sven take on these jobs to get as much compensation as he can !!!!

It does sound like a pathetic excuse, but it must be taken in context. These players have a level of fitness that is beyond what most (if any of us would ever experience)
Untill a couple of years ago I was playing 3 times a week (just 5 a side stuff) but moving to a different area has limited that but I could feel a bit leggy at times espicially if I played consectutive days, but my level of fitness was nowhere near these guys.
All players now are super fit and just a 10% drop in performance of fitness levels could well mean the other team get to take advantage of you, I wish my fitness levels were that of a pro who describes himself as feeling leggy, I'd probably feel great. But we must realise that when they talk of tiredness they are probably describing that small drop that they feel, not the tiredness many of us feel after a 50-60 hour week. If you're off your game just slightly it could make a huge difference.
However, which ever way we look at the tiredness issue, one qustion has to be asked, why are they tired?

It was not tiredness that made us look poor in the last two home games, it was the opposition Managers getting tactics spot on. Play two fast wide players to nullify the attacking treat of Edwards and Cresswell, have a strong, good in the air centre forward and our lack of pace in 'the diamond' is exposed...we then have no supply to the frontrunners.
