Town Trying to Sort Out Difficult Deal for Andrews
Town Trying to Sort Out Difficult Deal for Andrews
Friday, 9th Dec 2011 09:04

Town boss Paul Jewell says the Blues are trying to tie up the signing of loan midfielder Keith Andrews on a permanent basis but warns it might not be an easy deal to do with the Blackburn Rovers player having another 18 months on his contract and with other clubs likely to be interested.

Jewell said: “The problem for Keith is he’s done so well and scored lots of goals for us. We’d love to keep him but he has another year to go at a Premier League club on a Premier League contract.

“It’s something we’re trying to sort out. I spoke with the owner and he’ll no doubt speak to his agent."

Premier League Wigan and Swansea have both been linked, while Leeds targeted the 31-year-old in the summer, and the Blues manager expects other sides to show an interest in January: “With him being available and with a lot of clubs in for him before he came to us, we’ll have some competition, I’m sure.

“I know Keith likes it here and we’d like to keep him. Whether we can do will be down to finances.”

Andrews’s first concern will be to play regular football during the second half of the season in order to seal his place in the Republic of Ireland side ahead of Euro 2012, which might give Championship clubs such as Town an unusual advantage over Premier League sides.

Blackburn have said they will be looking to move the former MK Dons midfielder on when the transfer window opens with the player also keen to sever his ties with Ewood Park.

Spin Spin Spin..
Andrews wont want to stay at a championship club languishing at the lower reaches of the championship...the same as no one (of any quality) will want to come here in the window...
not a hope..
see ya keith, nice knowing you!

itfc1981 - more worth that fee than norris.

wallingford boy - that makes no sense, if he's a midfielder who scores goals that's more than we could say for the others, what other plays are scoring regularly? No goals, no wins. Anyway, I disagree I think he adds a lot more than people think and I'd swap Bowyer and Bullard for him any day.

jas - If we go out and buy a whole load of pacey, hungry wingers, we won't have a middle and no service to the wingers, use your brain. Unless you'd rather keep Bullard, Bowyer and Leadbitter in the middle who you complain so oft about.

If we can make a deal work we must, Andrews has some real quality and desire about him.

alfromcol - don't bother to post - just keep coughing up, renew that season ticket if you have one, and continue to be satisfied with how things are - which of course is you in one.

Fickle Ipswich "fans". Some of you lot on here make me sick. The negativity coming from the usual suspects is not in any way, shape or form useful or supportive of the club - no matter who is in charge. I bet you people are absolutely fantastic Football Manager 2011 enthusiasts and your innovative formations and use of tactical wizardry has gotten Ipswich to the top of the Prem in 3 seasons and you are now cometing in the Champions League???? Wasters.

If you get him on the cheap then go for it but I find it hard to believe thats possible. Yes he has got goals but i think that with him in the team has meant you have missed goals from bullard and bowyer. we need another adrian paz to set the midfield alight.

Theres one major signing needed asap and thats a defensive coach. Even Jason Roberts (Jewells golden boy) said that some of Jewells problems have always been his refusal to employ a defensive coach. John McGreal would be a good shout. Although Tauricco and his mate would be fantastic. (Thats not me calling for Jewells head). I generally believe he will turn this round and I will stick my head on the block and say that we will win by 3 or more goals tomorrow. When a team is playing that bad sometimes being put on show in front of 37 sky sports viewers spurs the players on.

bohslegend - this Club doesn't need to be successful with your type around. Losers.
And by the way your comments are PATHETIC.

h32 - at best i would say you are a fair-weather fan, but more likely you have a secret bright yellow jersey in your wardrobe for showing your true colours. Good fans support their team through thick and thin. You are not faithful enough to show your support at the minute because you're afraid you're going to be seen as backing the wrong horse. Talk about Pathetic?? Stop your whining and start supporting. That is of course presuming you're not a budgie!!

to be fair, h32, bohslegend talks a far better game. Rather than call anyone prepared to get behind the team a loser, perhaps you should do the same. We're not contented, we're as frustrated as anyone by the results. You need to see past that into the far bigger issue, which is how do we turn the club around? Supporting through thick and thin (take Portsmouth for example) is certainly the most WE can actually do.

bohslegend - it's all about how long people are prepared to have the p#ss taken and taken for granted, which this Club will do, mark my words, with enough of you people to keep the turnstiles clicking 'sufficiently'.
Some of you haven't supported the Club long enough to make any comparisons at all with the Club of old. I suspect you may be one of these - I've been giving ITFC my money since 1962 (and lots of it) - have you ???
So again - way off the mark to mention any other colour I'm afraid. And NEVER given the team you refer to a PENNY. But I am honest enough to admit that we don't even rate in the same sentence anymore - massive gulf between the two Clubs now - and widening on all fronts. That's not easy to accept and you people won't help to arrest that decline - because of your acceptance levels.
