Andrews Doesn't Want to Go Back to Blackburn
Andrews Doesn't Want to Go Back to Blackburn
Thursday, 22nd Dec 2011 08:56

Loan midfielder Keith Andrews says he’s not sure where he’ll be playing his football after January but doesn’t expect it to be with parent club Blackburn. The 31-year-old feels he was treated badly by the Premier League table proppers in the summer and hopes to move during the transfer window.

Andrews said: “If I’m being completely honest I feel my time there is done and don’t want to play for them again. I didn’t particularly like the way I was treated by the club last summer.

“It was a little bit bizarre because I had one meeting with manager Steve Kean and was told I was part of his plans for the coming season.

“He said I was good to have about the place, a good influence on the young lads coming through and a good pro.”

Subsequently, a switch to Leeds United was set-up behind his back with Andrews instead deciding on his move to Town: “They told me they had agreed to let me go out on a season-long loan to another Championship club, not Ipswich.

“It came as a bolt out of the blue to me. I said I didn’t want to go to that particular club but after chatting to my family I agreed to another loan move, this time to Ipswich.

“It’s not personal with Steve Kean. I had a fine relationship with him when he was coach and I fully respect him as manager.

“From my point of view there are absolutely no hard feelings with him but a lot went on at Blackburn and people within the club know what I’m on about.

“They threw their cards on the table, told me they wanted me to move on and I took it on the chin. Now I think it would be best for all concerned if I moved on in January.”

Andrews, who has 18 months left on his Rovers deal, says that the Blues are yet to show any serious intention of keeping him at Portman Road beyond his loan spell, which is up after the Forest game: “My agent did have a meeting with the owner and Mr Clegg on Monday where not a hell of a lot was discussed, to be perfectly honest. We left the meeting with no offer and the feeling that there was no ambition to sign me.”

Premier League sides Aston Villa, Everton, Wigan, Bolton and Swansea have all been linked but he insists that top flight football isn’t the be-all and end-all as he looks ahead to Euro 2012 with the Republic of Ireland in the summer: “I said before that going to a Premier League club wasn’t everything and I stand by that. As long as it’s a team that’s forward-thinking and ambitious then I would be interested.

“It’s a big six months for me, I want to be playing regularly and want to be as fit and confident I can be going into what will be one of the highlights of my career.”

LET HIM GO

will cost to much money and offers little apart from 'Norris Goals'. Push Bullard up and he will score these goals, and bring Hyam in, or another DM to protect the defence

@kingchopra - am I missing something or arent goals enough? Didnt realise we could win without them, and considering he's our top scorer, I'd beg to differ to let him go.

PJ's keeping his cool on this one to avoid a fee/ wage scrap.

Can't Clegg and co make a positive decision, one way or the other, rather than more of this 'wait and see what comes up' attitude which seems to effect all our dealings these days.

Its no way to run a football club, or any other business for that matter!

I'm concerned that we keep hearing how ambitious the club is under ME but I'm not convinced that there is a great amount of money there for PJ to play with . Certainly can't see us getting Sharp let alone Andrews

We need this man and he wants to play for us, I appreciate that Mr Evans does not want to appear too eager, it is a sensible business tactic, however I do think that we should at least let Keith know that he is wanted here, he has done well for us and appears to be quite disappointed and disillusioned by our negative attitude towards his potential future with us, I really hope that he stays and also as Captain.

I can only assume we don't want to be first to lay our cards on table to avoid bidding war.... or jewell has young player lined up?? Andrews is for me an excellent leader and his goals r key, wouldnt have won the last two without him!!!!

I don't blame andrews for wanting away from blackburn. Who honestly would want to live in or around blackburn. Just a bunch of pie eatting flat cap wearing whippit racing ale swigging northerners. Up the town

Good player but sadly he is too old and too expensive..

Let sign a couple of younger players, maybe a right back and a centre back!

Usual hum drum, his agent will want more than we're offering and we'll want to pay less than he wants and so it goes on and on.
Can't blame him for not wanting to go back to Blackburn, poorly treated by the sounds of it.

It's goals we need and its goals he gives, age is but a number its not the age that makes you lazy its experience. Bowyer thinks he's done everything so he plays his game and gets his wage, Andrews on the other hand wants to work for it and score goals. So once again sign him up !!!

GUYS, The reason that ITFC havent made a move yet is due to the Prem clubs circling they will be waiting to see what town offer him then better it. town are just keeping their cards close to their chest atm. Its a good idea!

Fingers crossed we can sign him up. At leats Andrews saying this shows he wants to stay! Think positive fellow Town fans

Seems a little bit keen to sign for Town tbh, maybe suggests that interest from Premier League clubs isnt up to much!

Well said regency blue !!
This is the major problem at our club.
It's being run by money men who know jack doodle about football.

Happy Xmas fellow sufferers

Just look on the club website and who is on the board. Says it all. No real ipswich people.

Perhaps there is a cunning plan in the offing. Need to replace his 9 goals from somewhere though.

There is no way that PJ hasn't had a chat with and indicated to KA that he wants to keep him, despite what KA is saying to Radio Suffolk. He isn't going to say that ITFC want to keep him, even KA is playing it low key.

Patience folks, I think we will get him, perhaps on a loan till the end of the season with an option to sign him.

Sounds like mind games.

Andrews has a big zero on the assists chart but 9 goals at this stage of the season for a midfielder is excellent. He also has more shots on goal than anyone else including strikers. I feel he is a good influence on the team.

Why have a meeting on Monday and not real discuss or offer something or more likely ME and Clegg were frightened off by unrealistic demands?

I hope he is sensible about contract demands and signs in Jan.
