Andrews Doesn't Want to Go Back to Blackburn
Andrews Doesn't Want to Go Back to Blackburn
Thursday, 22nd Dec 2011 08:56

Loan midfielder Keith Andrews says he’s not sure where he’ll be playing his football after January but doesn’t expect it to be with parent club Blackburn. The 31-year-old feels he was treated badly by the Premier League table proppers in the summer and hopes to move during the transfer window.

Andrews said: “If I’m being completely honest I feel my time there is done and don’t want to play for them again. I didn’t particularly like the way I was treated by the club last summer.

“It was a little bit bizarre because I had one meeting with manager Steve Kean and was told I was part of his plans for the coming season.

“He said I was good to have about the place, a good influence on the young lads coming through and a good pro.”

Subsequently, a switch to Leeds United was set-up behind his back with Andrews instead deciding on his move to Town: “They told me they had agreed to let me go out on a season-long loan to another Championship club, not Ipswich.

“It came as a bolt out of the blue to me. I said I didn’t want to go to that particular club but after chatting to my family I agreed to another loan move, this time to Ipswich.

“It’s not personal with Steve Kean. I had a fine relationship with him when he was coach and I fully respect him as manager.

“From my point of view there are absolutely no hard feelings with him but a lot went on at Blackburn and people within the club know what I’m on about.

“They threw their cards on the table, told me they wanted me to move on and I took it on the chin. Now I think it would be best for all concerned if I moved on in January.”

Andrews, who has 18 months left on his Rovers deal, says that the Blues are yet to show any serious intention of keeping him at Portman Road beyond his loan spell, which is up after the Forest game: “My agent did have a meeting with the owner and Mr Clegg on Monday where not a hell of a lot was discussed, to be perfectly honest. We left the meeting with no offer and the feeling that there was no ambition to sign me.”

Premier League sides Aston Villa, Everton, Wigan, Bolton and Swansea have all been linked but he insists that top flight football isn’t the be-all and end-all as he looks ahead to Euro 2012 with the Republic of Ireland in the summer: “I said before that going to a Premier League club wasn’t everything and I stand by that. As long as it’s a team that’s forward-thinking and ambitious then I would be interested.

“It’s a big six months for me, I want to be playing regularly and want to be as fit and confident I can be going into what will be one of the highlights of my career.”

He is a Blackburn player and we need to find out from them what they intend with him after his loan is completed . Until then we cannot do anything as we could be charged with illegal approach !

Honestly cant believe what some fans are saying, let him go and not worth signing? You count the points hes single handedly won for us this season then take them away and look where we'd be in the league!!

Our club has lost its heart since Roy Keane ripped it apart, but it makes me think what the hell is Clegg doing at ITFC. You also have to take a look at the faceless owner we have, since Evans saved us from financial ruin we have been on a downwards spiral.Take a look at how Norwich City turned it round and bought in players from a lower league with more pace and bigger hearts then the Maradonas we presently have.
Moan over...Happy Xmas to everyone

I simply cannot believe that a club in the state ours is in can afford to let a midfielder who has played almost every game and is our leading scorer, yes outscoring our so called goalscorers, walk away without making any sort of offer to try to keep him, he is out of here in 10 days time, just brings home to me what an absolute shambles our club is, and as for fans saying good riddance what planet are they on, just who is going to score us the 20 goals that we want, Andrews might if he stayed here, some people need to wake up, just like the club they are living in the past, the whole club and much of its fan base are awash in a sea of apathy, absolutely no ambition.

Andrews = Bullard = money grabber.

He is shamelessly using the media to further his own cause.

Past performance is not a guarantee of future results.

Send him to Coventry.

He's got one assist, at Cardiff.

Andrews does seem to be talking to the media a lot about this, and I wonder if we have not made an offer because he and his agent just want too much money. Like others have written, they might want our opening bid to use to bargain with with other clubs. I don't know how much Blackburn are paying him, but let's say it's £25K a week. That's a lot of money for him to publicly say say he doesn't want to play for them again, and it is an awful lot to expect a Championship club to get near, especially if he is looking for a three year deal. Imagine if we signed him up on big money then the goals dried up!

Andrews goals have been great and I'd like him to sign, but only if the money is right. Otherwise, let's look elsewhere for the players we need including a centre-back, right-back and defensive midfielder to stop the goals going in the other end.

Garv - It's NO assists according to the footbal league stats.

However he may have contributed earlier in the move that has resulted in the goal. Assists = last pass as all of you know?!

Of course nothing concrete was offered on Monday. If there is interest from PL clubs, then we can't compete (or shouldn't). Andrews may want us to compete with hypothetical PL offers, but that would be silly. Let their offers come in, and, if they don't, then we can talk. Andrews (or his agent more likely) is trying to stir up us fans so that the club is forced into a silly deal. Be patient.

Poor player who has happened to have a good run of luck in front of goal similar to Norris last year.
When his goals dry up which they will he offers nothing to the team.

Clever work by Andrews agent by stating that numerous Premiership clubs are after him. I doubt very nuch if this is the case and he is trying to tempt Ipswich into an early deal.
Andrews goals tally has been fantastic but unless he is free and on very low wages, let him go. He is slow and ageing .
Thanks for your contribution KA good luck in the future.

Yes, quite right, let our leading scorer stroll out the door without putting up a fight.

9 goals in 19 games, three in the last two worth an extra four points on their own... it reminds me of the Southampton fans who famously complained that Matt Le Tissier did nothing in the game apart from score a hat-trick.

Matt Le Tissier was a striker and his job was to score goals. Andrews is a midfielder who is on a good goalscoring run which will end at some point. Then he has nothing to offer to the team. No assists to his name and I cannot recall a decent tackle made which is what he is really in the team for.
Anyone who thinks he will score 9 in every 19 games he plays needs their head tested. Would be pushing 25 a season at that rate.

I really dont get some of you ppl in here.
KA its 31 years old he is not 40 and we need to sign this guy ASAP. He has scored lots of goals for us and I think he could get 20 for us this season if we sign him.
He has at least another 2-3 good seasons in him so why you dont want him I dont know.
Find me another middfielder out there who can get at least 15 goal per season.
He has lots of premiere league experience so even if we do go up in the next 2 years we allready have him.
You tell me who from our current team can play in the premiere league apart from KA? I think none.

As someone already commented, goals-wise he's like another Jim Magilton and look at the age he retired.

I thin PJ will be really mad if this one slips away his getting the squad into shape we are on a role now and you can sense the team believe again along with Bullard and Co its starting to shape up quite nicely thank you very much so...MR Clegg you really need to sort this out and now because this guy is too good to be messed around give him a fair contract and belief that we are a forward thinking club with a plan to be in the premiership he has goals written all over him and I need to addthat his effect on the team in the dressing room is huge he is an excellent Captain and deserves that honor think if he goes how flat it will leave us all we cant sign quality players and then oh boy watch the comments on here about Clegg mount up either way I hope you can sign him and we can then really look at cantering well as fast as a suffolk punch can COYB

Other than goals he brings nothing ! Just what game are you lot watching, has more class than the rest of our midfield put together, other than Bullard who has done nothing this season, 9 goals in 19, 4 in last 3, but hey just let him walk away because we are flush with goalscoring midfielders are'nt we, how many will Bowyer and Leadboots score, just shows the idea that some fans have and why our club is in its current state!
