Town Could Accept Swindon's Murray Bid
Town Could Accept Swindon's Murray Bid

Blues boss Paul Jewell says Ronan Murray could be allowed to join Swindon on a permanent basis if the Irish U21 international wants to make the switch to the Robins, with whom he has been on loan since November. The 20-year-old's spell is up after the weekend.

Swindon manager Paolo Di Canio has already laid claim to Murray stating that he “belongs to us” but Jewell says that’s not the case as yet: “I have to tell Paolo that he’s our player! I think they’ve made an offer. Their chief executive [Jeremy Wray] has put something to Simon Clegg, but I haven’t really looked at it yet.

“I’m really pleased for Ronan that he’s gone out and is playing football. He’s a great lad, he’s had limited opportunities here and if he wants to go to Swindon and we can do something to make it happen, we’ll give Paolo his wish.”

Jewell also revealed that Jaime Peters was close to a loan switch to SPL side St Johnstone until red tape held up his move: “I spoke to Steve Lomas at St Johnstone but he’s got that three-club cross-border thing — he was at Bournemouth and he played for us against Northampton. That means he can’t go abroad to play for another club and Scotland is a move across a border.”

The Blues boss confirmed that the Canadian international will be allowed to move on to other Football League clubs on loan.

Sorry to harp on about it - but we're probably paying the price for letting some quality coaches(Klug) leave the club and who knew how to look after the youngsters. This lot don't have a clue. These boys have got to be given a fair crack in the first team to get up to speed with first team football and grab the opportunity. Quality second string football at Championship is virtually non-existence. Hyam (a bright hope) is dragged from nowhere to play at Hull, I thought did OK, and then doesn't even make the 16 at Birmingham. Criminal.

Go with Swindon Ronan - you'll get a better chance and learn more under Di Canio.

Clegg Out.

Now the detail of the 5 year plan - sell all our young, hungry and talented players who we have nurtured through the youth ranks and are on lower wages and replace them with a bunch of knackered old mates of the manager and ageing has beens on top wages - sound plan that has got to work surely?

The team has become the whipping boys of the championship and the management the laughing stock - enough is enough.

Just go Jewell, I now think you are worse than Keane.

It speaks volumes that our promising youth would rather play in divisions below us than stay and fight for a place here. Very sad times.

It just goes to show where this club is heading , and the mentality behind it is absolutely shocking , Ronan Murray , may not be a player to set this league alight , but he has got potential , his wages would be cheaper than all of our mis-firing strikers and of course he would be more than capable of holding his own with us in division one next season . maybe clegg and co. arn't finished with us yet and want us struggling with relegation again next year!

I may be wrong, but I read on this site a couple or so weeks ago that Murray was quoted in the Irish press as criticising Jewell, albeit without specifying what the criticism was (but presumably to do with lack of playing opportunities).

I wonder if this has something to do with Jewell's evident lack of interest in the player ? Or is it hubris at having a plethora of senior attackers none of whom are either consistent or prolific ?

Another disasterous potential decision from Jewell, Clegg and Co, this is a joke, Murray has never really been given a chance here and to say that I am disappointed is an understatement.......we keep all the has been and discard the younger players time after time.........we paid in the excess of £1 million for JET or should I say paper aeroplane and can you really say that he is that much better? I certainly think not, Ellington - another joke signing.....I can go on, in fact I think we have no real players who care, have any sort of passion for our club.............keep what potential we have, which is now much less than we have had in many years.
