Wright on Trial With MLS Side Dallas FC
Wright on Trial With MLS Side Dallas FC
Saturday, 21st Jan 2012 22:40

Town keeper Richard Wright flew to the US today ahead of a trial with MLS side Dallas FC this week. However, after Alex McCarthy was sent off at Leeds, the Blues look certain to make sure the 34-year-old is back in Suffolk well ahead of the home game against his old club West Ham a week on Tuesday, with Arran Lee-Barrett currently the club’s only available senior keeper.

Wright signed a short-term contract to the end of the season in November just before the loan deadline, having trained with his old club since the summer after his release by Sheffield United.

The former England man came in as cover for David Stockdale, then on loan from Fulham, who had picked up a shoulder injury, Wright playing the only game of his third spell with the Blues in the home defeat to Reading.

Once at Arsenal and Everton, local boy Wright is believed to be keen to move to play first team football and we understand his Blues contract includes a clause allowing his release if he is offered the chance to play more regularly elsewhere. Town seem likely to look for another keeper as back-up if Wright wins a deal at Dallas.

However, as things stand, with youngster Cody Cropper still out with a knee injury and McCarthy set to be suspended for one match after his dismissal today, Wright will be required for bench duty against the Hammers.

We signed him because he was training with us and there were rumours of enquiries made by other clubs. We put him on a contract in order to make a fast buck.

Now we are only left with ALB, a keeper who's confidence has been shot to pieces by Jewell in getting in this clown McCarthy.

Some of the worst management decisions I have seen at this club since John Duncan decided to play one of the world's best sweepers at left side of Midfield!

Personally I would rather John Duncan come back than keep Jewell

If our predicament wasn't so serious you'd be laughing like fook at the catalogue of incompetent decisions made by PJ & Clegg.

I reckon PJ & Duncan could do a better job running Ipswich!

You can't blame Wrighty for looking elsewhere as he clearly ain't wanted by Jewell, but the question is why did he bring him here in the 1st place?

Then we get to the incompetent bit; letting a contracted player fly to America when he still might be needed, as yesterday proves you never know what's gonna happen in a game. Saying that, having watched the game nobody could be expecting such a spectacular self-destruction on our part even after some of the weird sh*t we have done as a team tis season to date.

PJ really has to go and take Olympic boy with him as he's fake all use here.

3rd choice keeper - once a Premier League player with international experience. He was only taken on by Jewell when other clubs were interested. It suited both Richard and the club and was a good fit. This boy needs to be playing regularly and a move to Dallas - or wherever - would give him a new lease of life and a fresh challenge. He deserves it - let's not forget what he helped achieve for this club albeit over ten years ago. The simple fact is this - we cannot go on like this with only having ALB - because that is effectively what we have. If Cropper was fit - Wright would've been away - so let's not stand in his way so that he can sit on the bench. It is very clear that we need to sign a nailed on number 1 - stop this messing about - it upsets the balance and stability of the side - particularly the back 4... What the club needs to do is buy a keeper before the West Ham game and let RW go to the States. If it didn't work out for him, he'd still be 3rd choice here with a short term contract and doubts over his future - unfair.

PJ - p1ss or get off the pot.

Just read this, what do you think?
Cant do us any harm after the cr@p we've had this year?

"Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill has conceded that the club are taking a calculated gamble in allowing goalkeeper Craig Gordon's contract to run down. The Scotland international, 29, who joined from Hearts in 2007 for £9m but has suffered numerous injuries, could be dispatched on loan to a Championship club to build fitness."

Wrighty is Ipswich born and bred like most of us. It must be painful to him to see his home club in such a mess. At least after another terrible game we can go home and forget about it, but he can't. So I don't blame him for wanting to jump ship and getting as far away from Jewell and Clegg as possible. I would!

Mr jewell and mr clegg you'd have sir alf and sir bobby spitting feathers if they were around. God bless um both . Look at what we had and look at what we have . And I apologise . Mr cobbold would also be going through the roof . Sir alr sir bob and the cobbolds were decent , honourable people with heart , passion and they were the heart beat of the club . Evans , clegg and jewell take a step back and try and get even a little bit of a feel of what ipswich town football club is all about from the chairman to the tea lady. I feel our club is ruined . Its not a club anymore . Portman road is. Now a grave yard

MunichBlue - great shout, just the kind of player that would do a great job - and be better than we have. Loan until summer and see how he goes (form & fitness wise). I've heard that he is fit but out of favour.

Wright was brought in because PJ failed to address the goalkeeping situation - it was sheer panic move. ALB is a poor third choice keeper at best, whilst PJ thought it would be a good idea to sign two LOAN keepers, after releasing two PERMANENT Keepers. PJ is truely a very poor inept manager. He needs to go and now. PJ OUT

Hows Shane Supple doing?

alfromcol added 10:57 - Jan 22
Could be that Wright had a clause in his short term contract that allows him to seek a permanent job if one came up!!!

Get real people.

Please send the Reading keeper back. What was he doing catching the ball outside the box. When he caught it he had no idea he was outside his area. What a plonka,

This is just madness...we let Fulop go for nothing when we had a loanee...now he's gone too and the new loanee is out and ALB is just not upto it and Wright plays one game and gets injured. I thought that we had a horse called CRAZEE not a chief Exec!!!!

Good luck Richard, you've still got something to offer and shouldn't be bench-warming. Hope it works out for you in Dallas or wherever you end up. I don't blame you for wanting to get away from this club, it's a mess.

We should have given Shane Supple more backing when we had him. A good little keeper in the making.

Why is this so fookin obvious to everyone on here but the management still pursue with these ridiculous decisions!?

The chant at West Ham should be,

'the town are going down, the town are going down...unless you're gonna remove them, unless you're gonna remove them, unless you're gonna remove them (finger pointing at the management) THE TOWN ARE GOING DOWN!!!

@DurhamTownFan - Richard Wright is your favourite tow player? He is the rat who jumped ship to "chase his dream" with Wenger, what happenned, we got relegated, pony tail never retired and Wright's career went into the toilet. He is Judas to me and the reason why we are where we are. If he stays with us we never get Andy Marshall and Matteo Sereni and we never get relegated that year and if we consolidate after finishing 5th in the Premiership who knows where we are now, we would not be in the crapper like we are now. I hope Wright goes too, in truth I would ban him for life from Portman Road.

Not the future of the club but just how are ALB and the other clown better than him, McCarthy is now suspended, and we decide to let him go NOW, just another example of the dire management and administration at this club, they probably don't even realise that McCarthy will be suspended, bunch of muppets.

Richard Wright is the best keeper at the club at the moment. He should be played.

Crazy management decisions again. RW should be called back now in time for practise for the West Sham game and ALB on the bench. Send McCarthy back to Reading. As has already been pointed out, he is not in form and why should we have a reserve keeper from Reading cutting his teeth with us whilst own own and IMO better keepers are sat out.
Perhaps if Evans makes the big decision and either releases sufficient monies to buy decent defenders or fires PJ or Clegg things may start to improve?
Window closes soon along with our chance of staying in this division if we don't reinforce our defense!

The whole contract situation is ridiculous. He is either under contract or he isn't. If he is, given the goalkeeping situation we have, he cannot possibly be considered available to be signed by anyone. Whoever sanctioned this wants shooting. Or does his so called contract allow this kind of thing. In which case whoever sanctioned this wants shooting.
