Town Confirm Stevenson Signing
Town Confirm Stevenson Signing
Saturday, 28th Jan 2012 21:01

Town have confirmed that Hearts midfielder Ryan Stevenson is joining the Blues with the move set to be formalised on Monday. As reported this morning, the 27-year-old Scot was at Portman Road today for talks and a medical after the Blues had an offer accepted on Friday.

Stevenson has put pen to paper on a contract which we understand to be an 18-month deal plus an option for a further season but with the paperwork yet to be cleared. He will make his debut against West Ham on Tuesday as long as international clearance comes through before midday on Monday.

Town are believed to have paid Hearts £50,000 with the Stevenson’s Tynecastle deal up at the end of the season and with him refusing to play due to a payment dispute.

Irvine-born Stevenson played youth football with Ayr United and Chelsea, staying in the same apartment block as John Terry when making regular trips south to train with the Premier League side.

In 2002 he moved on to St Johnstone where he made the breakthrough into first team football, before returning to Ayr United, initially on loan, in 2006.

The 5ft 11in tall midfielder, who can also play up front, moved to Hearts for an undisclosed fee in February 2010 and since then has made 47 starts and 20 sub appearances, scoring 11 goals. His contract is up at the end of June.

In December, after Hearts failed to pay their players’ wages, he asked for his contract to be terminated. This was refused but he told the club he wouldn’t play or train until he had been paid, citing stress on his unborn child amongst the reasons for his decision.

A Scotland call-up in November but without winning a cap, much-tattooed Stevenson was linked with Bristol City last month, while League Two Crawley had a bid rebuffed a week ago.

I don't think thats an avatar Marcus139. Its a screenshot.DaleyITFC sometimes goes to the games, hes done match reports.
Love the fact that hes already in training. Also feels good to do one over on Crawley. They tried to get Drury, failed. Turned to Stevenson, failed and we managed to get him.
Now just get in those 2 strikers from Crawley (Mat Tubby and that other guy we've been linked with)

Signing is good timing. Murray wallace is due in town on Monday. Having a fellow Scot onboard may have some bearing. Although I feel Brighton r more likely to be his chosen team. New stadium, higher in league than us and they have fellow Scots in their team.

Interesting signing, could go either way, but for £50k, an easy gamble to take.

Please get some defenders now.

No one really knew much about Drury till he came to Ipswich for peanuts so lets see what this guy can offer. He'll be keen which is a lot more than I can say for some of Town current players except the youngsters!
Good luck Ryan

Dozzells Bobblehat - You may wish to get your facts straight before commenting! In regards to your comment about defenders that we have bid for please don't include Ward as one. He is a Midfielder (check your facts) and as for Wallace he is to be loaned back for the season and a 19 year old is hardly going to be our saviour. So really it's only Pearce that would go into the defence. As for any other supporter who is happy with our transfer situation you are deluded! We should be splashing the Wickham cash and bringing better signings than 27 year old slow midfielders of which we have plenty!

Bezzer, totally agree. Too many fans don't want to accept the truth and current situation. Another good PR exercise by Mr jewell in the eadt yesterday to get more on his side.

Next two days will be defining.

Never heard of him but sounds like a good player who wants to prove a point.
Good bit of business Jewell 50k. Hope he proves to be a bargain.

Looks like a good bit of business, I would much rather see players who are here to prove something. The once premiership midfielders are simply not good enough and it would be great to see a couple of them go the other way. Fingers crossed for the defenders and goalkeeper now?

Good. That should bolster the reserves nicely.

'Young' used to be something like 20 or 21 but I like how Town fans are now forced to consider 27 as young, given the squad's current average age.

i dont doubt he may a useful signing at some point , but how can anybody be pleased with our acquisitions so far???? A totally dodgy keeper on loan, why ffs he has cost us points and an unknown midfielder ( who maybe bargain of the century). but face the facts, we need to go back to basics, we have the worst defence now we have ever had, i have been most willing and supportive of jewell , clegg and evans, and i am a patient man, and i am not one for throwing money around, but ffs spend the money we need to spend to get in the quality defenders now to save us from the drop.... we dont need anymore gambles or bargain basement signings... we need proven quality and in their prime... heres a question for those of you who cant face the facts, who have we signed who is proven quality and in their prime ( not including cresswell, a great signing who is going to improve ) and also with their heads in the right place, and permanent signings, not many spring to mind, our dealings in the transfer market under jewell, have been woeful... can anyone disagree on this?.. and i doubt we will achieve in the next couple of days, what we havent been able to achieve in jewells reign so far...coyb

Bezzer and co....can you please stop moaning. Give the guy a chance. And i'll say again since when has 27 been old? And you know he's slow do you?
Seriously you tell people to get their facts right when youre not doing any better.
We all know we need defenders..but the whole team needs work. But to be knocking this guy when he hasn't kicked a ball for us? You should hang your head.
And before anyone says the classic line 'you can't be a real supporter blah blah' I can assure you I am.
I just do not get people moaning about Ryan all because he's cost us next to nothing and because he's the grand old age of 27!
Maybe instead we ought to go and get another leadbitter for 2 or 3 million eh? I'm sure that would please you.

Firstly, best wished to him and hope his Town career goes well.

However, like a number of ITFC fans I simply can not get excited by this signing. It smacks of desperation in my opinion. We need 2 x CB and RB, GK and a striker by COB Tuesday. We didn't need a CM! Also, he seems a bit disruptive. Hope he does well, time will tell.

Expecting much better signings by the close of the window.
