Middlesbrough Linked With Leadbitter Move
Middlesbrough Linked With Leadbitter Move
Friday, 30th Mar 2012 22:50

Middlesbrough are reported to be close to agreeing terms for next season with out-of-contract Blues midfielder Grant Leadbitter. Players whose deals are up in the summer are able to talk to other clubs about new contracts from January.

The £2.65 million summer of 2009 signing from Sunderland turned down a Town offer early in the season, terms which were reportedly worth around a third of his current £15,000-a-week contract.

Boro are said to have bettered that deal, while a move to Teesside may appeal to the Chester-le-Street-born player.

Coincidentally, the 26-year-old missed a penalty and scored a stunning goal in the 1-1 draw between the Blues and Middlesbrough at Portman Road on Tuesday.

I think he should be kept on. If he continues playing as he is.

Agree with what has mostly been already said. If I was Leadbitter I wouldn't hang about for £5k a week when £15k was on offer. Again the club is to blame, we should have either offered him a £15k a week extension to his current contract this time last year or sold him last summer. In hindsight, that could have been a good thing.

If he doesn't go to Boro then it'll be elsewhere, so time to drop him and give the Drury/Hymn combination another go. The best football we have played all season has involved those two.

If Leadbitter is worth £5k a week then Bowyer must be worth less, time for him to go as well. Sign up Murphy and we have the foundations of a desent midfeld for next season. Murphy, Hymn, Drury, JET and also Carson.

Just a pity that Leadbitter's best form came when he was trying to impress other clubs rather than playing for shirt of Ipswich. Just about sums him up..

Leadbitter will leave the club - just like Norris and McAuley did. If so, it will be Cleggs fault. I don;t understand how people think this guy is doing a good job.

Grant should not have to take a pay cut to stay with us. It's one thing Scotland/Edwards - both coming towards the end of their careers at 33 years old taking one - but Grant at 26 needs to do whats right for his family. People are deluded if they think he should turn his back on a big contract in order to sign a low one with us.

Get the two faced little shyte OUT of our side Jewell. Its no coincidence that his form has improved over the last 2-3 games. We have very convienently put him in the shop window to help his only intention of leaving this Club.

WHY DIDN'T WE SELL him last summer. The player has done NOTHING for 99% of his time here.

Oh yes? If Middlesborough think he's so wonderful, why didn't they sign him in the January transfer window? I think this is an agent trying to improve his client's negotiating position. I think we should be tough. If Leadbitter, Bowyer and Kennedy leave we still have Bullard, Stevenson and Edwards which should be enough. Also, the wages saved could be used to fund a decent right-back and centre-back.
