Jewell Disappointed With Cropper's Agent
Jewell Disappointed With Cropper's Agent
Saturday, 28th Apr 2012 07:00

Boss Paul Jewell has criticised the way Cody Cropper’s agent handled the US U20 goalkeeper’s release by Town. The Blues boss decided not to offer the 19-year-old a new contract on the advice of the club’s goalkeeping staff, who didn’t think the US U20 international was quite up to the required level.

Jewell says he wasn’t happy that the players’ representative spoke to the Atlanta-born keeper before he had: “I was a bit disappointed with his agent because I’d spoken to his agent and his agent went and told the lad before I did. But I explained it to Cody and he understands that that was his agent’s fault.”

The Town manager says the 6ft 3in tall keeper isn’t of the required standard and in any case probably wouldn’t have had too many opportunities if he had been offered terms: “We wish him well, he’s a terrific lad, but I can’t say yes to everybody.

“We had a discussion with the goalkeeping staff and we just think he’s just a little bit short, although not in terms of height, at the moment.”

Please feel free to personally ask him, email him and let us supporters know what we are dealing with at this club.Anyone please ask him his views on what Paul Jewell is trying to do leading people on. Paul Jewell very unprofessional with your flippant remarks against this kid.Are you trying to ruin his Career before he gets started?

tellitasiseeit?
How do you know what righty says is true?
Is righty an insider who you know personally?
Is it a not too clever pseudonym for a player who is on on this forum giving us accurate info about the situation?
If this is the case then I'd like to see some evidence, otherwise I shall have to take it on it is just another opinion as to what's going on.
I could set up a profile on here and pretend I have inside knowledge and pretend to be a member of staff, who would believe me or not?

What a difference a few years make - I remember the time when you couldn't read a good word about Malcolm Webster, because all the keepers he trains have the same weaknesses at the near post and at crosses.

Technically, the agent is an employee of Cropper, because Cropper pays the agent (and not the other way round) - had the agent not told Cropper, the agent would have been unprofessional.

If you're not keeping the player, why do even need to talk to the agent first? It's not as if there are financial details to discuss. Having been in a similar situation (in a non-footballing environment), it smacks of a manager not wanting to manage his player, and deliver the bad news himself. Unprofessional.

tellitasiseeit - im with buryblue on this, however even if what u say is true its PJ who is the manager and he is the one who will be judged on this and all other decisions.
He obviously doesnt rate Cropper and thats football. If he is any good he will get another club.
To state that PJ is trying to ruin his career is ridiculous. He has been let go. Move on.

Dozzell, interesting as it is to think we could have a mole from our club slipping us info, it's all too easy for the PJ haters to knock him with this sort of nonsense.
As I'd said in a previous post on this article, we need to stop thinking we've a given right to produce top class youngsters like we're a factory and to be beating Arsenal in FA cup finals and challenging Villa and Forest for Premier League (Div 1) titles (there in lies the problem, too many people living on past glories) we as a club do not produce anywhere near the amount of youngsters who go on to greater things that some people believe, I've listed the handful who've moved on in the last 15 years to better things.
If we hear of Cropper in the future as Americas next Brad Freidel then we got it wrong, I doubt that'll be the case along with the countless other players who've been released from our youth system over the years who were apparently (according to some) the next best thing.

buryblue - agreed. In fact over the years we have had a lot more players come through the ranks , be sold onto a bigger club and then flop than we have released and then have come good.
The main one would be Paul Gascoigne, released by a certain Sir Bobby Robson. Good job some of these people werent around in those days of they would have been slagging off Sir Bob.

buryblue77 added 20:32 - Apr 28
Yes of course, Gazza was released by Sir Bob, I'm too young to remember the Robson days, as my user name may suggest 77 reflecting birth year, not age lol.
This lot who moan about our current situation, wanting the glory days back would do well to remember our greatest manager took time to get going.
Nice to see that one of our former players scored today, Matt Bloomfield for Wycombe Wanderers, need I say more......

tellitasiseeit - i don't see the answer in your post to BuryBlue77's question as you stated.

How do you know Malcolm Webster was furious? Also, safesashouses - that was a gibberish post! Why are people knocking the treatment of Cropper!? There's nothing untoward here. He hasn't made the grade in the eyes of PJ, simple as that. If PJ acted without the advice of Webster then that's a different matter, so, to your point righty and tellitasiseeit - how do you know this is the case?

Thanks Keanish, I was wondering if it was just me missing something glaringly obvious!

................ the naivety and clueless traits of some of our pathetis, non ambitious supporters, is well and truly showing through on this thread.

What this Club is right now is good enough for these people - they just make pathetic noises now and then - but generally speaking they are happy with this lot, and will remain so.
THAT'S ONE OF THE REASONS WHY WE ARE GOING NOWHERE.

Real supporters of ITFC, to a man, have historically ONLY ever wanted, and expected the best for the Club. Sadly not the case now, from the sad people who will condone absolutely anything that is served up.
Don't waste your time in printing otherwise - it's there for all to see.

You are so pathetic that you tell others, who thankfully think otherwise, to stay away or support another Club.
Thank goodness the season is over now, and maybe, just maybe, you will gain some ambition during the summer.

h32, I want what is best for the club, but I don't believe we have a given right to be up there challenging.
We'd all do well to remember that were it not for Marcus Evans we may not be in existence, or if we were with absolutely no money to spend on either transfers or wages we would probably be lucky to have stayed in this division, look at some of the teams who have been up there in the past and have fallen away even further than we have.
You may think that we're all happy with our current position, I am not but I can't see the point of sacking the manager (yet) 10 games in next season should give us a good indication of where we are going.
The other side of that all is that Swansea and Norwich have done it without money, but then Paul Jewell took both Bradford and Wigan up to the Premier League and before anyone says he's yesterdays manager can I remind you that it was only 2004 that he achieved promotion with Wigan, who had never been there before. Hardly yesteryear in football, many players still playing who were playing then.
Evans wanted a big name, that is why Magilton was replaced with the disaster that was Keane, a quick needed this season hasn't worked and I believe we will see better over the summer in terms of transfers, only time will tell.

Weird post h32 - what fan wouldn't be ambitious for their club!? Not sure how it relates to Cropper being released either!? If Cropper isn't the future of ITFC in the eyes of a very experienced goalkeeping coach then we have to trust that...

My ambition for next season is simple. Top 6 finish and a far improved defensive rearguard otherwise PJ should consider his position. We have no given right to be in the prem but i do think we should be a top 8 Championship team every season. I'll put the last few years down to a poor managerial appointment from a new owner and an inexperienced CEO and a time rebuilding the squad. Next year i demand we hit the heights expected and PJ has to deliver. As i've said before, i'll judge him on the first 10 - 12 games of next season and the summer signings.

On that note, Jason Pearce was left out of the Pomepy side today so he must be Leeds inbound unless we're going to match the 1.5million and persuade him otherwise...

buryblue77 - fair comment - but you must admit there is a blatantly obvious lack of ambition from some supporters.
In my opinion, if you don't expect much from the current people running this Club - you certainly won't get much.

Also 2004 is way back in football times / terms - What has PJ acheived since then ??.
I am not in favour of sacking him at this time, in fact I still hope he succeeds, but am not expected that, and I agree with your ten game plan - but it MUST not go beyond that.
By that time the Olympics !!! will be over, and maybe certain people will have a different view of ITFC by then !!! - no names mentioned.

Ten games into next season could be a very interesting time for the Club - for reasons other than results.

h32 added 22:57 - Apr 28
..... 'expecting' that - should read.

buryblue77 added 23:02 - Apr 28
h32, the old Olympic theory! As long as we're not left high and dry if it is the case.
All I'm saying is that 2004 isn't that far back,(it was actually 2005 as I thought I'd check the timeline out and realised I was out by a year) in my view the game hasn't overly changed that much so I don't believe that he's lost the touch that he had with Wigan where he did stay on another couple of seasons, keeping them (just) in the Prem.
Looking at Keanish's post above it seems he has a realistic ambition for next season and that is mine too, automatic promotion is probably not going to happen, top 6 is what I want to see however. And yes, slightly off topic....

Keaneish - But is it the opinion of 'a very experienced goalkeeping coach' ?????? - or more spin ??????

buryblue77 added 23:08 - Apr 28
I meant to add however Derby didn't go too well but a very difficult job and he did have 3 years out of management so in answer to your question what has he done since then. Nothing.

h32 - just because i and others dont share your views doesnt mean any of the following :
1) that we are automatically wrong (we could be)
2) that we are un-ambitious
3) that we are PATHETIC
4) that we are not winners
5 ) that we are "just happy to see a ball kicked at PR"

it simply means we dont share your views. I cant speak for anyone else but i have never told u to go and support another club, i have just told u to stop being so arrogant, which i stand by.
Its not your views i have an issue with. I dont agree with lots of them , BUT i have already and will say again you could be right and i could be wrong, but the point is neither of us know. Your continued accusations that i have no ambition are tedious and incorrect i just see the route differently to you. If PJ can turn it around we will surely start seeing success quicker than your method of getting a new boss in and all the changes that brings.
This site is for exchanges of views and i dont doubt your desire to see Town do well but please stop the childish name calling and telling me and others what we do and dont lack.

Surely jewell could have told him to his face like a good manager would do. There was no call for an agent to be involved in this discussion
