Jewell: Murphy Deal Beyond Town Wednesday, 2nd May 2012 13:36
Town boss Paul Jewell says he doesn’t expect Daryl Murphy to be with the Blues for 2012/13. The 29-year-old has been on loan from Celtic this season, his second spell at Portman Road, and Jewell is keen to keep him, but feels the Irish international is out of the club’s price range.
Jewell said: "I don't think Daryl will be back here next year. I spoke to him and his agent a few times and we would have liked to have kept him but he's still got another year left on his contract at Celtic.
"We are grateful to Celtic for letting him come here but I think if we wanted to bring him here next season they would want a fee, and you can understand that. He's on decent wages as well. It's a deal that is out of our price range."
Waterford-born Murphy made 32 starts and two sub appearances during 2011/12, almost all on the left of midfield, and scored four goals.

One of the best headers of the ball at the club, will be missed on the left for goal kicks and clearances from defence. Another player who has to decide whether to pocket the money and not get games or take a pay cut and play the game that they are professionals in. Obviously not a lot of money in the club at this time, even with a rich owner!!!

Karlos - i wouldnt read too much into what Posh fans say at the minute. be a bit like a Boro fan coming on here and asking what we thought of Leadbitter. Needs a damn good hair cut though.

Rumour has it he was on £18K a week when he was at Sunderland so probably improved on that when he signed for Celtic.

Good! Average player at best and not what we need to mount a serious promotion push, with his contribution of 4 goals.... We need a quick goal scoring winger, but Jewell appears too scared to gamble on lower leagues!

Garv - I don't just make it up. http://www.football-league.co.uk/page/Assists/0,,10794~201110272~7,00.html Murphy might have put in a good cross that was knocked down for someone else to score. I'm sure you know an assist is only credited to the last player to pass it before the scorer. Doesn't mean Murphy hasn't been influencial to a build up to the goal - but they don't keep stats on that. But you make some good points he was decent.

During his first spell, I thought he was unimpressive, which was also the general feeling of a friend who is a Celtic fan. There is little future for him back there. I have to say, however, that I thought Murphy improved quite a bit this time round. No surprise that we can't afford him, but we ought to be able to find a reasonable replacement. Anyway, thanks Daryl, for your time at PR. You always put in a good shift.

Thought he done well for us, only forward with any height to win headers for us, but if he is on to much money we move on. I think a lot of club chairman are looking to what they spend now, look at what is going on at Hull City, Bristol City and Peterborough have both released loads of players as clubs look to reduce size of squads to cut costs.

another waste of time.. an expensive loanee we could never afford to buy.. but hey..he helped us get to the lofty heights of 15th..well done to all concerned. also yet another pearl of wisdom from jewell..giving everyone (other clubs and players) a brief insight into our equally lofty ambitions.. you couldnt make it up..

In all honesty, I'd prefer Coppinger down the wing. He's got a far great delivery than Murphy, and will most likely will create more assists chipping in with a few goals! Nevertheless, Murph did bring height to our attacks but never really look good at shooting on the floor I'd like to see either Coppinger or Boyd

Will be disappointed if a deal can not be done with Celtic as Murph did a lot of good unnoticed work for the good of the team suppose it all comes down to money really but Leadbitter is moving on and others have been released so there must be some money to spare and my preference would be to sign Murph then a keeper and centre half and right back.

He obviously negotiated a very good deal for himself at Celtic, so good luck to him. If he still has a year left on his contract their, why not just get him on loan again, which would be cheaper for us anyway? He obviously isn't wanted at Celtic. Murphy has turned into a very capable left wing player, he's tall, quick and his crossing has improved dramatically...........a regular on the starting teamsheet, he will be greatly missed.

Again the idiots take over....it is not about Evans giving up it is about new rules regarding financing a football club come in force next season. Many clubs are having to cut cost and why would PJ invest a lot of money in an area he may feel he has options and can cover more cheaply. That would mean he would have less money to invest elsewhere where we need strengthening.

I was more than sceptical about him when he arrived for a second time, but I'm delighted to say I was wrong. I can't believe the negative comments he is getting here as I see him as one of the success stories of the season, although in a less spectacular way to others. Played a lot of games, the full 90+, and was consistently good. As some have said, outside of normal attacking wingplay, he was always an outlet and offered great support to Cresswell - which I think benefitted our player of the year greatly. I don't think this deal is dead (well I'm hoping), I think PJ is trying to play games here, to encourage Celtic not to seek a fee and just get his wages off the books, while at the same time prompting Murphy to be willing to accept more 'realistic' wages. The 'come and get me' story about Coppinger might be no harm at all. As for George Boyd, a very skillful player no doubt, but would he offer as much to the team as Murphy? I get the feeling he is more of an individual talent type, that can go missing when the chips are down.

Sad that a player wanted by the manager, surplus to requirements at Celtic, and 29 years of age is out of our price range. Ill add him to the list that this year includes Andrews and Collins.

No surprise - and the problem with having loans. Every Championship Club has/needs a couple, but we had six (Wabarra, Murphy, Stockdale, McCarthy, Collins and Andrews) in total this term and none of them will be here next. That's not good for building a team for the future and a self admitted mistake by the manager. I read somewhere that Murphy was on £20K at Sunderland, so would have been on at least the same at Celtic. This deal was never going to happen, which begs the question why he was selected for the last few games ahead of one of our own players. Good luck to him though as overall I thought he did an okay job for us.

Dozzells bobblehat Live in Peterborough and work with 4 season ticket holder at Posh. They said the season they were relegated out of the Championship he was average and were not surprised when Notts Forrest sent him back. They said he was excellent last season when they got promotion from League one but again very average this year, so does sound that he wont be able to take us forward

........ yet another player leaving - all very well - but where are all these replacements coming from ?? Especially with 'everything' appearing to be 'out of our price range' - not looking terribly promising - early doors anyway. Good player who will be missed - would have been even better played in his rightful and best position, but that's another story.
