Blues Linked With Move for Coventry Defender
Blues Linked With Move for Coventry Defender
Thursday, 10th May 2012 09:37

Town are reported to have made a bid for Coventry City central defender Richard Keogh. The 25-year-old was previously with the Blues as an Academy schoolboy when he was also a Portman Road ballboy.

The Harlow-born 6ft 2in tall defender won the Sky Blues’ 2011/12 Player of the Year - for the second season running - and Players’ Player of the Year awards but couldn’t prevent his side from being relegated to League One. He was also named the official Man of the Match when the Blues won 3-2 at the Ricoh Arena in February.

Several clubs are said to have shown an interest in January and Town may well face competition for the former Republic of Ireland U21 international’s signature. Coventry’s demotion is likely to mean his exit is all but certain.

Keogh, who is contracted until the summer of 2013, moved to Stoke — where he failed to make a senior appearance - after leaving Playford Road and then spent time with Icelandic side Víkingur (loan), Bristol City, Wycombe (loan), Huddersfield (loan), Carlisle (loan) and Cheltenham (loan).

In 2008 he moved to Carlisle on a permanent basis, before joining the Sky Blues for an undisclosed fee in the summer of 2010.

Blues boss Paul Jewell has said he wants to add two central defenders to his squad over the summer with Tommy Smith and Damien Delaney currently the only two at the club, Ibrahima Sonko recently having joined Ívar Ingimarsson in being released.

Forget all these 'linked with' stories. The players we are serious about and will sign won't be mentioned on here until the signature is virtually on paper!!!

What a load of negatives again on here. Most depressing bunch of 'supporters'.

I saw this headline this morning and emailed my nephew who is a CCFC season ticket holder.
He reckons that he is the best player by a mile at Coventry and will be missed, they apparently turned down bids from Swansea and Wigan at the end of last season.
So no mug and he has had a busy season.
I havent seen or heard of any premier league teams interested in Smith or Delaney

As much as I would want Keogh at the back for us, I'm afraid that every Cov fan I've spoken to (admittedly only three) and all their chat forums are very scathing of Clingan. I think Stevenson will really step up when fully fit next season, Drury will continue his form, Bullard might have an Indian summer, Hyam is a great option, while Byron Lawrence is always there for cameos. We don't need that ex scummer. The only area of midfield I would want to see money spent is on the wing. A quick wide man who can cross the ball please. As I've said on here a few times, Jack Hunt at Huddersfield is lightning quick, got 11 assists from right back, and can play on the wing. I think he would a great addition to our squad and turn out to be a better player than Joel Ward.

The negativity on this site is ridiculous! Any defensive signing with a little bit of quality would be welcomed after leaking as many goals as the likes of Peterborough! Only aspect of his game that i see as a flaw is his pace, but with quick full back and not robot Smith next to him, could be a handy addition to a depleted squad..

Danlyles - what's their view on Clingan this season? When I've seen him he's always looked busy, a good passer and solid tackler. Good from a set piece too! Maybe on a poor side they were asking him to carry the fight too much on his own or has he just had a poor season?

With regard to PJ being on holiday, it's Clegg who does the deals and if they need to talk to PJ there's is always the HP Halo conference system, Skype, face time...or maybe a telephone!

Signed 2010 - named Player of the Year 2011/12 for 2nd time... to summarise; 2 seasons with Coventry City and named player of the year in both.

Sounds like the sort of fella required.
