Derby Striker Linked

Town, Leeds and Bristol City are battling it out for Derby County striker Steve Davies, according to tabloid reports. The Whites are claimed to be ready to launch a £1 million offer for the 24-year-old with the Blues and Robins also said to be interested.

The Town link may due to Blues boss Paul Jewell having signed Davies from Tranmere for a fee which could have risen as high as £725,000 had various clauses been triggered when manager at Pride Park.

Injuries - including a fractured skull last October - have limited Davies to only 55 starts and 39 sub appearances in his four years with Derby, scoring 23 goals, 12 of them in 2011/12.

[Update]

Rams manager Nigel Clough revealed on Tuesday morning that Davies has been transfer-listed having turned down the offer of a new contract due to "a genuine family reason". Davies has a year remaining on his current deal, Derby having taken up an option on his previous terms.

Would rather have him over Wilbraham any day, though only if there were really no better strikers available for £1m. Less than 60 starts in 4 seasons and 12 goals his best ever tally in a Championship season, nah no thanks... there must be better strikers available for £1m out there (We got Chopra for that money last summer!). Mind you, Dexter Blackstock is out of contract at Forest next summer and yet to agree a new deal...

We will make signings between 10 June and 17th june and 30july and 14 Aug. It happens every year I go on holiday and i spend the next 3 days catching up on football news.

Davies and Judge would be ok but will it ever happen??

Really hope this one comes off...always liked the look of this guy, holds the ball up well and is capable of banging in some spectcular goals...would be a good partner for Chops.

Davies got 12 goals in 20 starts last season, so I would agree with Clough's assertion that if he played 40 games he would get 20 goals. Derby fans seem to rate his hold up play and aerial ability too, and would like Tyson to play off him, so I would imagine he would be good foil for Chops or Scotland. I wonder whether he will be as effective in the air now though as I would imagine some confidence/psychological issues when coming back from such a serious head injury

So if we sign Steve Davis up, does that mean he needs to sink a red ball in the net first, followed by a coloured ball, finishing with a black one? Its a foul if he nets the white ball.

Decent player but Derby would be laughing to the bank if we paid £1m for him!

I though Nigel Clough said he didn't want to sell any of his players a week or so ago and would be buying.
