Nottingham Forest central defender Luke Chambers could join the Blues on a Bosman free transfer as soon as next week, according to reports this evening. The 26-year-old is out of contract this summer with the likes of Leicester, Wigan and West Brom all previously linked.

Kettering-born Chambers started his career with Northampton, breaking into their first team on the final day of the 2002/03 season as a 17-year-old before establishing himself in the side. The 6ft 1in tall centre-half or right-back eventually wore the captain’s armband and helped the Cobblers to promotion from League Two.

In January 2007 Chambers joined Forest for an undisclosed fee and since then he has gone on to make 208 starts and 20 substitute appearances, scoring 21 goals, and was their captain during 2011/12.

We understand there is interest from Town but with a number of other clubs also still targeting Forest’s 2010/11 Player of the Year.

What are we offering £100 a week. I hear we have been linked with the centre half at Stowmarket Town but he has decided to sign for Walsham Le Willows

Last season we let in far to many goals. Also we are very short in central defence and in goal. The basic minimum is a 'keeper and a centre-back. As jas 0999 says Luke Chambers looks like the right sort of player to fill the centre-back shortage. Now we need the 'keeper not the striker.

Like him, looks like the sort of hard b*stard we need at the back.

Lets try to stay positive about signings even though the recent track record of getting players we go for isnt great but I'm confident we can still get the right players in.
