Stewart Could Be Back in Town Next Month
Saturday, 21st Jul 2012 17:12

Town legend Marcus Stewart could be back at Portman Road next month having taken a job with another of his old clubs, Town’s Capital One Cup opponents Bristol Rovers.

Stewart, who played for the Pirates between 1991 and 1996, has been appointed development coach at the Memorial Stadium, where he will largely be working with players aged 18-21.

The 39-year-old had previously been coaching at Exeter, the final club of his playing career.

Bristol Rovers are at Portman Road for the Capital One Cup first round tie on Tuesday 14th August.

Town have set significantly lower ticket prices for the match, full details here.

@Flip
Would love to see him back here, we should all give him the old Stewart Wonderland song if he is.
Will he really be there though? With the type of role he's in.

What a player and boy. You wont see players like him now- out on the lash on a Friday but bangs in a hat trick on a Saturday!

Was it ever decided how he did get his jaw broken!?

I liked that shirt. And why can't we bring back shirts with collars?

I think he did something naughty with Matty Hollands other half and was treated correctly.

Not semi-pro, no charge involved, it's on the house!

Beerhelps - all quality players that you mention. I am too young to compare him to the likes of Crawford and phillips. However I did witness the late 70's, early 80's and although we had some terrific forwards like Mariner, I still think Stewart was better. For me he was the ultimate striker in his day and had it all (except for real pace), we would never have finished 5th in the premiership if it wasn't for him.

...and I forgot Brazil!

I loved the way Marcus went round goalkeepers, and had that 'extra yard' in his head, but dig out some of Mariners early performances on dvd, he had the lot and was as hard as nails, and I have a feeling he helped us to a couple of second place finishes, played for England......

That said, I think we would all settle for another Marcus now.

Beershelp - how could we forget Alan brazil? Great finisher, but no true heading ability in my opinion, unlike Stewart who was also a great header of the ball. I can't disagree with you about Mariner who was without doubt a superb striker and deserved to play for his country. I would say though that Mariner was more of a target man and was more known for "being good in the air", whereas for me Stewart was a more profolic striker and had more to his game.
