Tottenham Midfielder Luongo Set for Town Loan
Tottenham Midfielder Luongo Set for Town Loan
Saturday, 21st Jul 2012 22:12

Town are expected to confirm the season-long loan signing of Tottenham midfielder Massimo Luongo early this week. TWTD was first to reveal that the Blues were targeting the 19-year-old Australian earlier this month.

Sydney-born Luongo joined Spurs in January 2011 after impressing while on trial, having previously played for APIA Leichhardt Tigers in his homeland.

He made nine appearances for their U18s in the 2010/11 season, scoring three goals from central midfield, including one in a final day 2-1 defeat of the Blues.

By the beginning of last season he had impressed enough to make his senior debut — and miss the decisive spotkick in a shoot-out — as a 71st minute sub in a Carling Cup tie with Stoke. That remains his only first team appearance.

Capped twice by Australia at U20 level and called into senior training camps, 5ft 9½in tall Luongo also qualifies to play for Italy, the nation of his father's birth, and Indonesia, where his mother was born.

Luongo is currently with the Tottenham development squad which is playing a friendly against Italian side Calcio Como tonight but yesterday tweeted to a friend: "Looks like I'm heading for a loan."

If we loaned messi for a year would people not want to watch. What's the problem?

On another note. Gio is the best player we have had in recent history (although shamefully not considered good enough for the premiership) I'd have him back ON LOAN in a second. Who's to say this lad isn't has "mouthwatering"?

Never been interested on loans. Definitely not 19 year olds either! A loan is not a signing for me!

What type of midfield player is he? I hope he can provide that defence splitting pass or has quick feet, hes not a tall player so won't be winning balls in the air! A tough tackler perhaps? - Can someone please enlighten me about his potential!!?

Thank you.

Why are you so negative?
Whats wrong with a loan? Just realise that this player comes for free for one season and with minimal wages... He will also add pace and energy, stop moaning so much!
NO team will go a season without a loanplayer

its funny how everyone on here thinks they are a football manager and know how to run our club, this lad might only be here for ayear, but if it helps us towards promotion then so be it,too much negativity on here lately so let PJ do his job........!!

It's not that he's a loan...it's that he's a 19 year old prospect!!!
For anyone on here not understanding, jimmy Bullard is our most senior midfielder, I'd he fails this season to be a leader which he did last, these signings become problematic!! Some of you on here seem to want a team of kids!!

Let's not forget where our troubles lie last season:

No right back
Strength in depth at the back
Consistent goalkeeping
Settled midfield

Can you all honestly say we have achieved this yet!?

The awnser is NO...and with only two more 'signings' imminent, I'm very sceptical as to how this problem is going to be fixed!!

If he's any good then a Club like Ipswich Town should have bought him from Spurs no questions....ffs the lad is nowhere near getting into the Spurs squad so what's the problem??? Offer Spuz a sell on clause or cash for so many appearances and don't back down...we're better than this surely..

Just got back from town and fancied a little rant...

As Ivorfeeling and Alfie have pointed out Brian Klug will know the potential of this lad. That's not bad credibility.

Some people are so ignorant. Gio was valued at something like £8 million and he couldn't get in the thfc team. Livermore hardly gets a game. Two quality midfielders that we couldn't possibly afford. Be a little bit grateful. Klug hopefully knows a lot about this kid, and therefore obviously rates him. He will probably be way better than Hyam and might show some attacking flare. Besides, who gives a (insert profanity). We get a (hopefully) awesome player for free for a season and if we go up maybe they will loan him to us again, but if he is doodoo we give him back. We have a tiny squad. Very little quality in midfield. Apart from Bullard. The others are tryers (Stevenson, Drury and Hyam). What's not to like.

I don't see it as developing someone else's player, I see it as flaunting them.

Also what's wrong with a 19 year old. There have been a lot of amazing 19 year olds.

"they are quality fringe players, but because of Keane they seem to hate your lovely little club."AVB
"we finished 15th in the championship and you finished 4th in the Prem can we have anyone?" PJ
"you can have Massimo, he's like the Australian Messi IMO, but he's new here"AVB

For God's sake people, why the negitivity??

Yes we're going to help develop him but if Spurs are paying his wages what do we have to lose?

how can 95 per cent of you slg this off when 99.5 per cent of you have never ever seen him play?

WorcesterBlue added 07:43 - Jul 22
Strange one considering CM is one area I thought we had covered but if he's as good as they say he may bring something. However I don't think for a minute this is the
mouth watering signing mooted by some so hopefully some other exciting news on the way. Still need another centre back, left winger and striker imo.

good be a good signing and he may be a starter if we dont get another striker

JET Bullard Hyam Martin

Im happy with a few loans to fill gaps in our team but you dont want to overrely on them. When Sheffield Utd were relegated they had been relying on free agents for years, leaving a poor club with many gaps in their team which they filled with loanees

I don't follow Spurs reserves so I have never heard of him, I am suprised so many have and already rate him without seeing him.

I don't mind loan players if they can help us out for a season, Colback was a star so hopefully this guy can be.

DiamondGezzer added 07:52 - Jul 22
I've got a unique idea. Let's watch him play a couple of games and then you lot can jump all over the poor b...... if you must. That way, if he's any good you can all turn your attentions to the next poor sod coming in. Whatever happened to patience ?

S6blue, 87.6 percent of statistics are made up on the spot.

Excellent. Now get rid of Bullard and things will start to look good.

Hyam for me does not cut it at this level. Not a first choice so a bench warmer and will pick up more bookings and suspensions then the whole side put together.

Just need to get JET to perform for 90 minutes and we could have a very good midfield. Add another partner for Chopra and who knows. And yes I wouldnt mind Heskey as the partner either.

Floridaboy. Bullard is one of our best players and Heskey is a donkey. Sun got to you?
