Friend's Boro Move Back On
Friend's Boro Move Back On
Friday, 27th Jul 2012 11:29

Doncaster Rovers defender George Friend is reported to be undergoing a medical at Middlesbrough. The 24-year-old had been expected to join the Teessiders earlier in the week after the clubs agreed a £250,000 fee but he pulled out of the move at the last minute and was believed to favour a switch to Portman Road instead.

However, the centre-half or left-back appears to have had another change of heart and Boro once again appears to be his destination.

Nottingham Forest, managed by Friend’s former Rovers boss Sean O’Driscoll, were also believed to be targeting the one-time Exeter man.

Meanwhile, Blues chief executive Simon Clegg has reiterated manager Paul Jewell's comments regarding his Aston Villa opposite number Paul Faulkner's enquiry regarding left-back Aaron Cresswell: "I certainly discouraged him, but I do recognise that every player has a price and if they offer us more money than we consider he is worth, then it is something we might have to look at. We are a long way from that stage at this moment in time though.”

Good news: Cresswell may not move on

Bad news: We are STILL short of CB's.

we dont attract top players, hence it would be a big mistake to sell the good ones we have , ie Cresswell .Friend must be odds on to join Boro so hopefully Cressy will be staying . Being a selling club when we struggle to buy in players will get us nowhere.

Intercept12 - I wonder if the fans saying 'stuff him' have now backtracked. Ha.

Jas0999 - Surely there is no bad news??, as you said yesterday that you didn't rate him at all. Or would you like us to sign anybody that plays CB, no matter how bad they are?
You are allowed to post without making a negative comment, no one will think any less of you. It doesnt mean you have to stop wearing your "I love Roy Keane t-shirt" :-)

Well we have to trust pj & the coaching staff. Hopefully they have a few gems to surprise us with.

we should organise a good old fashioned fight.

bare knuckles.

Jewell vs Mowbray

winner gets him. Id probably pay more than the entrance to the Bristol Rovers match to see that actually

Think we should've signed him...sadly I can see it now,the eve of the season and someone nips in for Cresswell and we get lumbered with someone on loan again as a replacement.

Friend would've been a decent CB or LB..and reasonably cheap too.

Maybe he didn't really want to come here at all and he was just using the club as a bargaining chip to get better terms at Middlesboro. Or maybe we weren't prepared to offer more wages. Who knows...sure PJ has other irons in the fire.

I guess we need to be patient.

Listen to you guys all of you are complaining that we don't have any centre backs but who have we signed a couple of weeks ago Luke chambers and what posirion does he play CB!! Yes it's a shame that we may not get him but still there are probably better players that we can get what these two French players that was on trial last week lets sign them up instead!!!

so if ipswich have to sell cresswell to fund a £250.000 transfer seems to me that PJ has hardly any funds at all. nice ambition MR EVANS..!!!!!

Very dissapointing. At £250K you can't go wrong. Cresswell or not, we desperately need another CB. If he can play LB as well would be excellent as Jewell obviously don't rate Whight at the moment. Or Ainsley as CB which means we only have three CB in Chambers, Smith and Delaney. Not enough!
