Town are reported to be interested in Huddersfield centre-half Peter Clarke. The 30-year-old could be surplus to requirements at the Galpharm Stadium with the Terriers having completed the signing of Cardiff's Anthony Gerrard, a player who was mentioned in connection with the Blues earlier in the summer.

Southport-born Clarke started his career with Everton, joining Blackpool, Port Vale and Coventry on loan while with the Toffeemen.

In 2004 the 6ft 2in tall centre-half returned to Blackpool initially on loan but with the switch made permanent for £150,000.

Two years later, having been the Seasiders’ skipper, he moved on to Southend - who he also captained - during their time in the Championship, then joined Huddersfield in June 2009.

Contracted until 2014, Clarke, who was capped eight times by England at U21 level, is the club captain of the West Yorkshire side. While with the Terriers Clarke has been their Player of the Year twice, 2009/10 and 2010/11, as well as being named PFA League One Fans' Player of the Year in 2010/11.

In May, he scored his spotkick as Huddersfield beat Sheffield United 8-7 in a Wembley play-off penalty shoot-out involving 22 players after a 0-0 draw to claim a place in the Championship.

Another centre-half is very much in Paul Jewell’s thoughts with Celtic’s Kelvin Wilson linked over the weekend.

Meanwhile, Brighton have been linked with long-time Blues target Steve Davies, for whom Town and Derby have been unable to agree a fee.

Peter Clarke is a fine defender and more than capable to play a role for us.

Clarke is an important player for Huddersfield and is being targeted by bigger clubs hence their need to get replacements in. They may be looking to cash in now maybe in order to hold on to Rhodes, who knows??
Not sure if he is being targeted by ipswich but I would be pretty happy to have him on board. He is no worse than Smith or Delaney and would give good competition for places/cover.

Would be worth a chance if the price tag is not too high.

He's clearly a solid player because of how well he did at Huddersfield, they went 43 games unbeaten under Lee Clark and he was apart of that so he must be a consistent player. If he does join you would think the fee would be a relitively small one and that he would probably be cover for Smith or Chambers. If this is the case then I'm all for it as Delaney isn't good enough now in my opinion. I would ideally like to see us sign a pacey centre half but Clarke will be handy for us, and just because he isn't wanted by one club doesn't mean he isn't useful for another, you could think of lots of players who join other clubs and do well when they're not needed previously. If he does join then I would welcome him. The only player I wouldn't really warm to is Heskey because he's too clumsy and over paid.

Jeeze, most people on here know nothing about football. Screaming like kids because Clarke is a Div 1 defender and not good enough in their eyes, then screaming like kids when ex-Prem players they've bayed Town to sign (Bullard) turn out to be duds.

Clarke strikes me as one of the sanest links that has been made on here for a long time. Town's most realistic signings will come from the lower divisions, Scotland and abroad - as they have done for years.

At the very least, if we do get him, he'll be excellent at negotiating Div 1 next season when we get relegated into it!

This signing and a new striker and I genuinley believe we will be in the top 6.

A back 4 of Cresswell Clarke Chambers and Edwards/Hewitt.

Solid!

What about Kelvin Wilson and all these other players this site links Town with! why not wait until players have actually signed for the club rather than guess....

Why did we buy Cresswell? Tranmere Rovers cast off! So what if he was playing well it was league 1 FFS! Everyone knows anybody can be good in league one! And what about Drury he didnt even come out of the football league! I despair at the notion of our club. There are plenty of premiership
Players we could buy with Marcus Evans money why are we fluffing about with these inferior players!

Just because he's been supposedly "released" by Huddersfield doesnt mean he cant a job for town. One mans rubbish is anothers treasure.

I think some people on here think we should only sign Real Madrid players!!! Come guys grow up were not in a position to be snobby about players!

I disagree, just because players play in the Premiership doesn't mean they're going to be great Championship players. Bowyer and Bullard?, Leadbitter wasn't worth the money. When we sign Premier League players they're normally players who have already earnt their money and have no hunger to do well at our club. This is why signing players like Cresswell is the way to go, young hungry players who want to make names for themselves, plus there is plenty of talent in lower leagues. Lambert a B.Rovers cast off working wonders at Southampton, I will say it, Grant Holt from Forest too Naaaridge. Chris Smalling was at a non league side a couple of years back. Plus Premier League wages, and fees are inflated and we can't just buy players for £2m and give them £18k a week because we're not Madrid or Man City, we're Ipswich and would end up as Portsmouth.
