Blues boss Paul Jewell is hopeful that he could add to his squad before Saturday’s opening Championship game of the season at home to Blackburn. Town have lodged a bid for an unnamed player and are waiting for a response from his club.

Jewell said: “We’ve made a bid this morning for a player and we’re waiting for that bid to be accepted or not.

“It’s a player that we’d like to bring to the club. We want to bring players here if we can, in the main, for three or four years, for the future."

The Town manager, who played down the chances of former Blue Connor Wickham returning on loan, says the previous offer he made over the weekend has been turned down and this is a different player: “We got knocked back on that one, the one we made this morning we’re waiting on that one. It’s not the same player, that one looks like it’s dead in the water.

“We tried to resurrect it, but it hasn’t happened. I’m hopeful that this one, if it happens, could be before the weekend.”

Warkys_Tash added 23:14 - Aug 16 I don't hold out much hope for any top class signing this season. By PJ's own admission, it has been a frustrating foray into the transfer market for a variety of reasons - the biggest one seemingly the lack of funds available - so it would appear most of his first choice signings have slipped the net, just like last season. Let us just hope that he doesn't resort to panic signings ala Sonko, Ellington, etc just to add to the squad. It is becoming apparent that ITFC are struggling to attract decent players these days. Very sad.

TractorTrog added 15:40 - Aug 17 Here we go!!!!!.... another season and by all of what I am overjoyed we have certainly improved without any shadow of a dobt and cant wait to see us against Blackburn ...pundits are writing us off as mid table medocratie so the pressure is off however Chops looks fantastic as does the squad and Scotland for my money is going to be our super sub quality throughout the club and Luango is mustard he along with chambers elliot great business well done PJ Clegg Marcus some great business we are on our way!!!!!
