Blues Linked With Liverpool Defender
Monday, 20th Aug 2012 17:30

Town are interested in taking Liverpool left-back Jack Robinson on loan, according to a report in one of today’s tabloids. Now 18, Robinson became the Reds’ youngest ever senior player when he made his debut as a sub in a 0-0 Premier League draw with Hull City in May 2010 when aged only 16 years and 250 days.

Since then Robinson, who is 5ft 11in tall, has made one top flight start and one further sub appearance as well as two starts in the League Cup.

An England international at U16, U17, U18 and U19 levels, Warrington-born Robinson spent much of last season sidelined with foot and groin injuries.

With Aaron Cresswell firmly established as the Blues’ left-back, it seems unlikely that Liverpool would loan Town a player whose opportunities would be limited at Portman Road.

However, the Blues may view Robinson as a potential signing should Aston Villa firm up last month’s interest in Cresswell.

If Aston Villa offer us silly money for Cresswell then we're not in a financial position to say no - maybe get Robinson on loan and then see what happens if both him and Joe Whight battle it out for the first team.

If Cresswell stays then whats the point.

Whatever the situation, this is a silly link. If Cresswell stays then Robinson sits on the bench as back-up and gets little game time. This doesn't benefit Liverpool or Robinson and sends a message that Whight isn't seen as good enough to perform the same role for Ipswich. Alternatively, Cresswell goes, in which case we'd require a left back of greater experience than Robinson, in my opinion, preferably on a permanent deal.

The only way I could see this happening is if we wanted to loan Whight out to get first team football and got Robinson in as a replacement to act as back-up to Cresswell. Again, this wouldn't benefit Liverpool or Robinson, so I'd say it was unlikely to happen.

All in all, very surprising link.

WTF is this all about? Unless Cresswell is on the way out why on earth would we want an 18 year old kid on loan. Pointless.

If there is substance to this (and like previous posters, I have my doubts), could be with a view to utilising Cresswell in our problem left-wing position. where I think he'd be very good

I have it on good authority that the Villa speculation is nothing but paper talk.

Like everyone else ... unless Cresswell is on his way out of here what the hell do we need this loanee for?

But then I guess the way the permanent tranfers have gone again this summer, our only chance of putting together a squad with any depth with once again be a load of loanees with no real affiliation to the club!!

Think it might be PJ having a contingency in case Villa make a last ditch silly bid for Cresswell that ME decides to accept

Clearly Cresswell has done excellently but maybe PJ is considering using him further forward and bringing Robinson in at left back? Finding the correct left sided midfielder is clearly proving tougher than perhaps expected and this would be an option, Cresswell certainly looks more comfortable going forward (although i'm not knocking his defensive ability).

If we get him and push creswell forward would free JET up to play as another striker - as we cant seem to buy one for love nor money right now! And aslong as he isnt as poor as again Blackburn it could turn out to be a good move. Also remember we need a good squad not a starting 11! Wouldnt be a bad transfer aslong as Creswell doesnt go otherwise next year we will be without a left back completly - not to mention Crswell is arguably our best player right now!

If Liverpool lend him out it will be to give him match experience. They would be expecting him to play and as we have seen with others, they will take him back if he is not getting that experience.

So where does that leave Cresswell? I can't see him being happy sitting on the bench. This all smells of an Aston Villa deal being more than just a rumour and perhaps negotiations are more advanced that the clubs are letting on.

Would he move Cresswell to the wing?
