Blues Again Linked With Posh Pair
Tuesday, 28th Aug 2012 14:18

Town are being linked with a move for Peterborough pair George Boyd and Paul Taylor ahead of the final day of the transfer window on Friday.

The Blues were mentioned in connection with the duo at the end of last season when Paul Jewell played down the likelihood of Town having any serious interest, expecting them to be beyond the club’s means with Premier League sides probably in the hunt: “If good players come up and are available and we can afford them, we want to be in the market for them, but there will be a lot of suitors for the lad Taylor.

“To be fair to George Boyd, he has played on the left, but this season he’s mainly played in the middle of midfield. We’re in that type of market, but he’d probably be out of our price range, to be honest.”

Striker Taylor and midfielder Boyd, who Jewell initially watched within days of taking over at Portman Road, are both out of contract at the end of this season with Posh having said they will look to sell them now rather than risk losing them for nothing in a year’s time.

The Blues are reportedly ready to splash £1.5 million on the duo with Taylor having previously been linked with Leeds but with Whites manager Neil Warnock having said he has no money to spend before Friday’s deadline.

I would be very happy with both, Taylor not the tallest, but only 24 I believe and knows where the net is.

Most important as above we also need a commanding CB ASAP!

I don't get it. We have plenty of CM, just got another LM so Boyd seems a strange one, and Taylor thats just bizrarre, we have two VERY SMALL strikers, why do we need another? offers nothing new.
Don't get me wrong, they are good players, and nice to see use looking to spend money but the choice of players confuses me

Would be very excited by this if we can get them for less than £2million

Would be two good signings! It would add so much creativity to the squad. And £1.5m is relativity cheap!

because casanova murphy is seen as the tall stiker which boyd to take the left wing.

Prob with Murphy as a striker is he can't hit a barn door from 5 paces!! Other two are ok options but would prefer Judge and Wilson permanent and Connor on season's loan instead. But then that's wishful thinking....

RedDust - Really cant see Murph being used as a striker much, Paul would've used him more as one before if he thought that was his strongest position. If Boyd comes Murph becomes a very expensive bench warmer.

These would be 2 very welcome additions, fingers crossed! Oh just one last thing. Forget Connor Wickham! He is not coming back as we would have to pay 75% of his wage, Jewell has already stated this.

murphy is jewells only cheap option for a tall striker, i don't think its about murphy strongest position, its about the positions that need filling regarding murphy.

Sunderland may want 75% of Connors wage paid but if they cant get anyone to pay that they might as well take what they can get if they wont be using him themselves. Love to see Connor back for the season, I haven't given up on that one yet.

Reddust - I'm pretty sure our contribution to Murph's wages would make him far from a cheap option.

Have to agree with Casanovacrow. Decent players but assuming Murphy's coming back, do we really need Boyd? And as for Taylor, won't really give us anything different to what we already have

As great as it would be to have Wickham back for the season, I agree with many Town fans who've been saying that we need permanent additions rather than loans. We need long term commitment to the cause (promotion and beyond). Boyd and Taylor would be an ideal pair. I'm hoping that we can keep tabs on Wickham and swoop in once hos contract is due to expire., because it sounds like he won't be signing a new one.

Oh my days after seeing that we had bought Luke chambers this is the best news I have seen all season I really do hope we rt these as they are both very good and experienced players for only 1.5 million that is as good as a bargin as we got loach for oh I hope this is not another edu when there was lots about him just to turn around and say we where not interested in the first place!!!!

On a slightly separate note, is anyone else really impressed with Luongo so far? Hyam's got some praise but haven't heard much reaction to Massimo so far. Think he looks bloody quality! Big future I think.

Would be very happy with this duo. Thought Taylor was a cb.
I would be happy with him or Bothroyd from QPR.
We also need a cb and a gk
