Town Confirm Delaney Exit
Thursday, 30th Aug 2012 15:02

Town have confirmed that central defender Damien Delaney has left the Blues by mutual consent, as revealed by TWTD earlier this afternoon. The 31-year-old is now able to find another club either before Friday's deadline or as a free agent once it has closed.

Delaney told the club site: "I have enjoyed my time at Ipswich but it seems the right time to move on.

“I have been here three and a half years now and am probably the longest serving player at the club, but not being in the side made me think about my future and like I said, it’s time for a change. I’d like to wish the club the best of luck for the future.”

Blues manager Paul Jewell added: “Damien has been a good servant to the football club and we thank him for that and wish him every success.”

Nice of him to forget that Tommy Smith has been there longer! Never set the world alight for Town, but can we really afford to let him go?

Phew! It means we shall no longer have to panic about his potential inclusion.

I hope that PJ has two CB's lined-up!

To be fair, when I play football manager I clear the squad as well ... the difference is I cheat and nick all Chelsea's money :)

Squad player on first team wages. Makes sense as long as we can get a couple of CBs in.

So that just leaves Smith and Chambers as CB's then. Good work!

Cool. Just need to get first choice CB for both right and left sides. Easy.

Our plan to have the smallest squad in the football league is coming to fruition.

Best of luck. Now can we bloody well sign some players. As casanovacrow says 5 a side at the moment. @PauloJulio agree with you.

St Ledger would be good but whats changed since last time we tried to get him other than he's actually been playing for Leicester this time? lol

Absolute Joke! with no back up confirmed and unable to organise a piss up in a brewery what chance do we have of getting someone in thats better than what we have! we must be a laughing stock of the football league! i have been supporting town since 1980 and im embarrassed to say the least.

Surely this means we have some in the pipeline/soon to be agreed? This gives us two senior recognised centre halves doesnt it??
Delaney had that one good year when he had McAuley to keep him company. Unfortunately without him he has looked a little ropey and is prone to the odd (common) error. Wish him all the best though!

also doesn't he play on the right of the central pairing? same as Chambers? and he's not all that tall for a CB.

Great defender though :-s

W e are going for 'total football' scoring more goals than the opposition. 1 major problem we don't score enough to beat Carlise!!!

Delany was on a decent wage, so should free up some money for another CB (or two)
He was commedy gold sometimes, I will miss him for this one reason only

Surely to goodness this can only mean that PJ and Clegg has replacements lined up and are clearing the wage bill for their arrival? We all know how easy it is for defenders to pick up yellow cards and injuries - cover here isn't an option, it's an essential.

Can't help feeling the next 33 hours are going to be crucial to our season.
