Jewell: Henderson Signing Will Add Competition
Tuesday, 16th Oct 2012 15:09

Town boss Paul Jewell says eighth loan signing Stephen Henderson will compete with Scott Loach and Arran Lee-Barrett for a place in his side. Henderson (pictured with chief executive Simon Clegg and fellow new addition Nigel Reo-Coker) has joined the Blues on a three-month loan from West Ham.

Jewell told the club site: “We’re delighted to have Stephen here and he will add to the competition we have in the goalkeeping areas.”

“Scott’s confidence has taken a little knock just lately — that happens to every player at some stage. He’ll get through it and be better for it, but bringing Stephen in gives us other options, along with Arran as well.

“It’s been well documented that we tried to bring Stephen to the club last season but Portsmouth did not accept our offer.

“We weren’t the only club after him and obviously he’s a West Ham player now and playing at a Premier League club.

“He’s been on the bench for them this season but when the opportunity came up to bring him here on loan, it’s one we wanted to take because he’s a very good goalkeeper and can only benefit the squad.”

Henderson, who is subject to a 24-hoour recall clause throughout his 93-day spell rather than just the usual first month, says he’s looking forward to playing some football while at Portman Road having made only two Capital One Cup appearances since his move to Upton Park in March: “I’ve not played much football this season so when I was told I could go out on loan, my agent contacted Ipswich and once I knew they wanted me, that was it.

“I’ve played here a few times. It’s a fantastic football club and I’m really looking forward to the three months here and showing what I can do.”

New signings Henderson and Nigel Reo-Coker, who signed a three-month short-term deal on Saturday, have been handed respectively the number 13 and 23 shirts.

God, PJ knows how to man manage doesn't he?

I think this is PJ last throw of the dice, another poor result at Hull and hopefully he will be history. If we do loose and PJ continues to be our manager, you know what to do, make your voice known at PR and aim some of it at ME & Clegg - ME wont accept fans having a go at the Board.

Happy days hey!

Jewell needs to go. There's no building of a team for a future. 8 loan players is a joke, we're in trouble and I can't believe nothings being done about it. In 3 months time they'll all go back to their clubs. I've had patience with Jewell, but hes run out of ideas and doesn't fit in in Suffolk. Sorry Jewell, back to Bradford please.

Is it possible to cancel season tickets, other than cancelling the DD agreement? Going to games is starting to feel like a chore, none of my mates go anymore and its simply not enjoyable!

Clegg looking a tad portly these days and ancient in his facial appearance as pictured on here
He could do with being involved in some out of hours training schedule and get away from that lazy-boy chair and his feet off that desk

We always wanted three keepers. Or at least two good ones.

I,m not really sure just how much more of this crap i can take. been a town fan for almost all of my life, i was there when times were good, i have been there when times were dire, but the present mess we are in beggars belief!
For the sake of our club will you please bugger off up north and never ever step foot in our club again, i thought clowno Keane was bad enough, but PJ has to be the worst manager ever to sit in that seat!
We are never ever going to move forward whilst he is there, rant over for now!

Rrally pleased with Reo-Coker signing, but can't for the life of me work out the other waste of air! He was never that good at portsmouth and I couldn't figure out why we wanted him then, he couldn't get in at west ham with Jussi having really poor start too! Loach did cost us points at Cardiff, but he saved us points at Huddersfield, by all means bring in competition but it needs to help not hinder our progress.

Clueless.what makes me more angry is the fact Evans is letting tweedle dumb and tweedle dee run this club into the ground. 8 loan signings how crazy is that?? building for the future indeed!!!!!

TOTALLY agree that this is a strange time to be bringing in a loan keeper. Very strange. but ... will Loach use the time to learn how to command the box totally (ie I'm not JUST bemoaning his mistakes, but commenting that ALL good back 4s need a solid and vocal boss wearing number 1 behind them and giving them rockets when they need them)

Loach is not bossy enough in his words nor in his actioin and movement around his own box. that said - if (IF) he does use the time with henderson playing to learn to own his box - he will come back stronger for it. Sad truth is that whilst he HAS saved us points due to fantastic stops he has not YET developed in this vital area.

I hope that he, and Tommy Smith to name another who has been "badly treated as he tries to learn his trade and serve his club" DO get stronger as both have a bright future here. No stops please - you are not french loanees - so knuckle down and learn your trade fast and we will support you all the way :)

Henderson looks about as pleased to be here as I am to see him holding that shirt.

WHY WHY WHY after the Stockdale (24 hour recall) last season, have we made the same mistake again, especially as this idiot doesn't want to play for us or he would have signed when he had the chance last season.

I will never BOO any Town player but every goal we concede I will be singing a chorus of 'Scotty Loach is a blue'

The idiots running this club have just completely knocked the confidence of OUR young keeper. SORT IT OUT.

The self destruct button has now been pressed!
Most of us fans can see the outcome, how come the owner can't?
Dark days ahead.
Time for us fans to unite at he next home game and make our feeling known!
Enough is enough.

24 hour recall again we know what that means. This is turning into an action replay of last year.

PJ is now ditching players he signed not long ago. This can't continue too much longer surely??

What does this do for Loach's confidence. Great man/team manager PJ I have seen it all now.

“I've not played much football this season so when I was told I could go out on loan, my agent contacted Ipswich and once I knew they wanted me, that was it."

So we weren't chasing him then?

Agent: Hi PJ I've got Stephen Henderson here, he's a bit bored at West Ham. I know you've only got 7 loan players at the moment do you want another?

PJ: I'll try anything at the moment I'm that thick! I really haven't a damn clue what I'm doing, but here's the good news. neither has the Chief Exec. So yeah, send him our way.

This is unbelievable, Scott plays one bad match, ONE MATCH and Clegg brings in another keeper, there's more than enough competition between Scott & ALB in the squad & in my opinion this isn't a bad signing but a pretty pointless one to be honest

why do people keep saying that loach only had 1 bad game against cardiff? he should have saved wolves 2nd goal, while he made a couple of good saves v barnsley he should have done better with the goal. it isnt just this season neither thats lead to his drop in confidence. hed been poor for the previous 2 seasons at watford, thus the very low transfer fee. while id love him to succeed and get back to the keeper he was a few seasons ago, we cannot afford to have a keeper in poor form in the team at the mo, & unfortunately our back up(alb). simply is not good enough. am not happy that a 24 hour recall in place as that agin is not a good position to have and because that also means theres little chance of a permanent deal, then despite my earlier comments dont believe this deal should have been done. sure there are keepers out there who , abit like reo=coker have no club(craig gordon for instance), that would be a better option.

If we had kept Cropper we would have Loach a back-up in ALB and a young promising keeper.
If we had kept Wright and Cropper we would have experience, Loach , a back up in ALB and a young promising keeper.

Absolute and total madness , does this mean after every below par performance we are going out and loaning a replacement , i really cannot believe this is happening , or is jewel doing the same as repossessed homeowners and trying to knock the walls down before he leaves?

“We want to avoid that situation with temporary keepers. It's been a tough one. We want to go with a permanent one next year if we can or if we get a loan make sure there's no 24-hour recall."

Jewell, nothing you say is worth reporting.
