Jewell to Speak to Evans In Morning
Wednesday, 24th Oct 2012 00:43

Town boss Paul Jewell says he will speak to club owner Marcus Evans in the morning, as he does after every game. The Liverpudlian, who missed his post-match press conference, confirmed that he is still the Blues’ manager despite earlier reports claiming that he had resigned.

Jewell told the club site: “I’m Ipswich Town manager at the moment and I will be in the morning.

"I’ll be at the training ground tomorrow and will speak to Marcus then, as I do after every game.”

Regarding the 2-1 defeat to his former club Derby County, he said: “We started brightly enough and were the better team in the first-half but we conceded another bad goal just before half-time.

“One mistake led to another and you could see the confidence drain out of the players. We didn’t really threaten in the second half and then to concede right at the end again for the second game in succession was a real kick in the teeth.

“That’s 15 points we have let go now this season from winning positions, but I can’t keep saying the same things.

“It’s really difficult to pick yourself up and go again but that’s what you have to do as a professional. There’s another game Saturday and everyone has to focus on that and getting the club out of the run we are on.”

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Jewell's assistant Chris Hutchings - who will be at Wednesday evening's Supporters Club AGM along with chief executive Simon Clegg and skipper Carlos Edwards - revealed owner Evans is currently in Barbados.

I bought tickets for Saturdays match after that I will not attend again until PJ has gone, after 50 years he has got me so I do not care anymore, ITFC will still be my team but while that moron is allowed to stay in control I will not be paying to watch this club go down. Five years millions spent and further from the top than before the money started to be spent, are we sure this club is not being run by the government, I thought they were the only ones to waste money and still be worse off(that is not a go at the present government all are the same)

I'm all one for given a manager a chance, I was optimistic Jewell could do another 'Wigan' opposed to a Derby here when he came.
Time I think has run one though. We are moving forwards in any shape or form and haven't been since Joe Royle. The club is a complete mess and does need a complete overhaul. As a fan of the era of the Burley/Royle days I hark back to the time when this was a team maybe not household names, but hard working quality players mixed in with a some local talent. The team I see now and have seen for a number of years is journey men, mercenaries and problem players.
Paul Jewell isn't the sole person responsible for this mess, the job at the moment is a poison chalious, but he hasn't helped.
We need stability now and a fresh outlook. We need the heart of Ipswich Town back.

@greenkingtone.

Who employed Keane & Jewell?
Who has failed to secure a club sponsor to help with the budget for player wages?
Who has let players contracts run out so we lose assets?
Who can't sign players the manager identifies?
Who is absent at the moment when a strong CEO is required rather than let the manager almost sack himself?
Who had no experience in running a football club before joining Ipswich?

One answer...Clegg

Yes, the pitch is Jewell's domain but the club is sinking fast under Clegg.

Can any one remember when Bobby Ferguson took over from Sir Bobby. Those were dark days but never once did I think that we wouldn't come back again and sure enough we did. But now the only light I can see at the end of the tunnel is another train on its way to smash into this once proud club! Come on Mr Evans we know its your train set and you can do with it as you wish, but please sort it out for us!

well it is mid-morning here, so time for PJ to wake the owner up and tell him we have lost again to another injury time goal. Does anyone at the club actually care though?

Shambolic though it was post-match, I do believe had PJ appeared before the media he probably would have called it a day, at least that's what he genuinely believed and that's why he didn't appear. Also the 'consider my position in next 24 hours' comment after the Hull game also was genuine.
The plan with the owner was that he would stay on regardless of the Derby result, and that's what he was trying to do by not appearing.
I totally agree with Mick Mills' comment last night that more football nous is needed to run through ..... the running of the club and while he defends Clegg I don't mind either way if the solution is to get a Director of Football to bridge the obvious gap. As for the present manager, it's extremely hard to see a way back, given the string of blunders no doubt assisted by the flaws in the set-up at the club. But going forward I agree with Mick that the manager hasn't been as hands on as he needs to be with transfer targets and maybe other aspects of the club set-up - the missing piece the Director of Football, or alternatively a new CEO who doesn't need to learn on the job about football clubs and a more hands on manager.

I'm with you no canaries. I am not a moaner by nature. BUT The time has definitely come for PJ to go. We've ALL had enough.
The annoymous Marcus Evans needs to 'come out' and take control of his club.
I urge all fans to attend The Supporters Club AGM TONIGHT http://www.itfc.co.uk/news/article/supporters-agm-441759.aspx

I feel it's not just Jewell should get the sack it should be Clegg too.

the set up was that ME bought the club and paid off our debts and to take the club forward. Clegg was bought in to support the manager on his behalf.

keane was bought in and failed big time with spending most of his funds on players that did not perform. Sold good young players and left gaps in our team and paid the price.

jewell was appointed and groundhog day happened, Jewell brought in players that well in my eye was at the end of there career and just took the funds that was given by the club. However Jewell has tried to bring in the players but with caution Clegg has not supported him. The list of players he wanted to bring injust says for itself.

St Ledger, Friend, Pearce, Austin, Henry, Baldock, Davies and just look what Boyd did last night???

These players would have helped the club and no need for loans.

Would have had a good squad but Clegg just messed it up for him and players were not interested if the club is scrapping around for lose funds.

I think Clegg has to go too, A new CEO and manager who has heart in the club, Sheepshanks used to get all the stick and fans used to criticise him but he would have never stopped his manager for getting the right players.

I think you should agree we need a complete new set up before January and get our club out of a big mess that could finish us like the way Rangers went in Scotland.

Wont be attending another match until Jewell is gone, he is an absolute disgrace, he knows he cant turn this around and if he does think he can, he is as deluded as Clegg

Very depressing time for all long term loyal fans. ME sees ITFC as another business acquisition has no interest in football and cares nothing about the fans. If he is receiving 3 million interest a year for his investment then why should he care. He won't replace Clegg because he is a puppet and success or failure brings the same media coverage so why should he be bothered. I just hope his football friends help him make a better choice of manger this week or Div 1 here we come !!!!

If your still towns manager why not show face at the press conference last night and take responsibility like a man!! The fact he withered away into the background so called watching the dvd of the game is a disgrace when fans need answers and answers now!! Like i said yesterday you never want to see anyone get the sack because as a person he's a nice guy but fact is when it isn't working you have to look at the reasons. Their is enough ability and talent in the squad we have now to dig us out of this whole. Whether its a loaned squad or not! But if the team lacks confidence, lacks belief and lacks pride to wear the shirt then you have to turn to the manager and back room staff and ask, what do they do all week!!?? If he has lost the dressing room then even getting a few wins under the belt isnt going to solve the long term problems. Jewell, your time is up. Do us all a favour and walk, we need a fresh start, fresh manager, fresh back room team to bring some vitality to the club. Do it now and we have time. Wait a month and it could be a to greater mountain to climb.

This isn't a survivable position for Jewell, its surely just a matter of timing as to when he goes. This morning this afternoon , next Saturday it doesn't really matter. But I agree the real question now is what happens to Clegg. It's telling that he has kept quiet and Jewell has made no mention of him. He appears to be having no say in decisions. In which case what is the point of him? He appears to have added nothing in his tenure at the club apart from an obstacle to getting things done. Things won't improve at this club until he is dealt with too

It's a pity, but PJ is now a "loser" and will find it increasingly difficult to fight his way up again.

I feel that Jewell did a decent job initially, trying to fix the utter shambles Keane left him with. We've played some nice football at times and often looked as though we might kick on.

But it just hasn't happened. And decisions like getting Wellins fit for Leicester, and dropping our long term keeper for an inexperienced loan keeper, and flooding the team with loans are unfortunately all signs of a manager who doesn't know how to fix the problem.

Therefore, his time has to come to and end soon.

It's a shame, I think he's a decent guy, and he's definitely done some good things here but it's just not working and only getting worse.

Sadly, I actually thought we played some nice stuff in the first 20 last night. Much more direct play, far less slow wing play, and actually looked threatening (comparatively). But it all too quickly drained away into nothing.

We need to get Hyam in for Wellins, find a midfielder willing to make a forward pass (maybe even get Garvan back, he had flaws but his forward passing was superb, thanks Roy), gets the wings cutting inside and just generally inject a bit of pace again. With Reo-Coker and Wellins we're basically playing Bullard and Bowyer again. And that didn't work last year. All of which points to a manager at the end of his tenure

This is a stand off between ME and PJ, ME won't sack him as it will cost a few quid, PJ won't resign as it will cost him a few quid in lost earnings, one of these d**kh**ds needs to give very soon if they genuinely have the best interests of ITFC at heart, I believe that Jewell may well do the decent thing today, all be it a few weeks too late.ME then needs to find a few new football friends to advise on the new manager as whoever has advised him before has got it very very wrong on the last two occasions, get back to basics, appoint from within the club or somebody with an affinity for ITFC and awareness of the history and traditions that took many years of hard work to put in place.

So has He spoken to him yet? And where the hell is Clegg when all this is going on?
Does he not have a voice, or is he also watching a DVD?
Most probably the same DVD as Numpty Jewell was watching...........
"Home a(loan) eight"
Progress Mr Evans? yeah right!
