Town Topic: Who Next for Town?
Wednesday, 24th Oct 2012 13:33

Paul Jewell's time as Town manager has come to an end, the Liverpudlian and the Blues agreeing his exit by mutual consent on Wednesday morning. Who would you like to see come in as his replacement?

Good points raised but I do not see how we can write off our whole season after 12 games!!
I agree that we need to bed in youth and can not understand why players such as Hyam and Carson are not given a fair run. Short term, unfit loanees are not the solution and it has only confirmed the panic and lack of strategy that PJ had.
I for one, want a young, hungry manager with lower league experience so that we can stop shopping at Waitrose and concentrate on our level..... Tesco's and below :)
Let's get some pride back in our club and have players that feel honoured to wear a Town shirt !!
Butcher / Taricco ??

Some wacky suggestions here!! (Robbie Savage!)

It HAS to be Curbishley or McCarthy.

Im sure klug would do a fine job, but we need him to rebuild the academy and the state of things at the moment i.e bottom of table a lot to ask of one man

Mariner or Poyet/Tarrico as manager(s). Muhren/Kluivert as coaches.

None of the realistic candidates really jump out but I would suggest Karl Robinson. Perhaps a long shot but Ollie may fancy a new challenge away from Blackpool and it's well known he loves ITFC.
Easier for me to say who I DON'T want.....Hutchins, Megson, Bryan Robson or Boothroyd

Curbs please - Some miss the point, "too long out the game..." - for at least 18 months he COULDN'T take a job while his unfair dismissal case against West Ham went through, which he won. We are bottom of the table ppl, this is NO time to gamble on nutters like Di Canio, or sentiment like Mills, Burley-take-two, etc. Norwich appointed Bryan Gunn on sentiment, next step 3rd tier football!) We NEED someone who knows what they're doing. Curbs came into West Ham when bottom of the Prem and facing mission impossible. he kept them up, winning at Old Trafford to clinch it. Next season they were going well in mid-table when he was betrayed by the Icelandic owners. He left, he was not sacked. Before that he took Charlton from 3rd tier football and left them mid table Prem. Proven. Never failed. CURBS PLEASE, with Holland as no. 2.

Solskaer - turned down Villa, not gonna come here is he...??
Harry - get real...
Billy Davies - club hopping failure
Megson/Kean/Cotterill... don't get me started...
Poyet/Taricco - not bad but won't come...
Yallop - interesting - but won't come....
Mogga - I'd back that, but he won't come...
McCarthy - my realistic no. 2 pick to Curbs, got teams to Prem, couldn't keep them there unlike Curbs.

Best wishes Paul, their were more behind you then you might have realised, at least hoping you would succeed then a few praying for you to fail.

Unless Clegg now follows nothing will change. The integrity of a sewer rat from what I can see. Voices support and yet he's lining up replacements for weeks!!! 34 knives in his tool kit alone. Not the first time either so lesson for next victim to learn. Hence a football man with integrity and knowledge to fill that role. Needle and hay stacks do come to mind, I admit.

Time to learn from repeated mistakes. If not, within no time you'll be calling for another managers head, all too many claiming that they know best. The state town are in will not be fixed in a few weeks. So I hope a wise choice is made and then time is given to get things right. It's not just the club that has lessons to learn but a few fans that are far too short sighted for theirs and everyone else's own good. Please old town values with Mr Evans money should have us where we all want to be. Please more respect, everyone. Finally, Please, this decision has to be the most crucial for many a year, if it's rushed or wrong, we don't have much further to fall!

Here's a new name by the way, Torsten Lieberknecht. Young manager and coaches a good balanced team.

Burley is still the best manager we've had since Sir Bobby, he was Sheepshanked,Had a good start with Hearts top of Scottish League then Romanoved.
Been a bit in the mire since then but I think he is still an Ipswich man at heart(not Hearts) and I think Evans should give him another shot with Magic as no. 2

Don't think it will be a massive surprise. Massive surprises would be, for example, Sylvain Legwinski suggested by someone above (not negative to this suggestion by the way). Or a female coach. Actually, I'd go for Pia Sundhage, a guaranteed winner (and looks quite like a bloke) but she won't come because she's just taken on the job of winning the World Cup for Sweden's women's team. So I suppose we will have to hope that McCarthy or his lookalike will do the job. I'd rather we took a punt on a younger, less experienced, but hungry manager with modern ideas. After all, we can always get another one if it doesn't work out. End of cynical rant.

2 years ago I said be careful what you wish for, Jewell would be worse than Keane.

Curbishley or Redknapp.

It should have been Curbs all along, he wanted the job when Magilton was sacked..
The people saying no to these 2 are nutters. On reputation they are both 'out of our league' we 'd be very lucky to get one of them.

Most of the rest of the list are gambles or journeymen. We've already tried that....

I would only employ Curbishley if he had Holland as his number 2! We need a manager who will carry on the traditions of the club (not the recent traditions Keane butchered into us!)

I would like someone younger with experience in the lower leagues to bring a bit of a fresh approach to the club. This year (like the previous 4) is now about building a squad, philosophy and stability for Ipswich to challenge for the play-offs in the next couple of years. We have to be realistic here!!
