Quartet Linked With Blackpool Boss
Saturday, 27th Oct 2012 23:13

Blackpool manager Ian Holloway is reported to be interesting Town and the various other Championship clubs currently looking for new bosses.

The Blues and Crystal Palace — who are also understood to be interested in another candidate for the Town job Mick McCarthy - are said to have joined the likes of Burnley and Blackburn in targeting the 49-year-old.

The Seasiders would apparently want around £500,000 if any of the clubs firm up their apparent interest in the former Bristol Rovers, QPR, Plymouth and Leicester manager.

Blackpool, who Holloway led into the Premier League via the play-offs in 2009/10, are currently 12th in the Championship having lost last season’s play-off final to West Ham.

Holloway, who hasn’t always enjoyed an entirely harmonious relationship with chairman Karl Oyston, is on a one-year rolling contract at Bloomfield Road.

Earlier this week, Town chief executive Simon Clegg didn't rule out the Blues moving for a manager currently with a club, although we understand the Blues are yet to approach the Seasiders.

Meanwhile, Kevin Bond, one of Harry Redknapp’s faithful lieutenants at his various clubs, was in the Portman Road directors’ box today.

As reported earlier in the week, we understand Bond was on Town’s list of potential successors to Paul Jewell but is expected to follow the former Spurs boss to his next club, QPR having been linked.

Redknapp is believed to be one of the footballing figures advising Marcus Evans and Bond may also be part of the Blues' owner's coterie.

Are people REALLY bothered by someone's ex-Norwich status? What earthly difference does it make ?

Wasn't Joe Royle ex-Norwich? How much fun was that?!

Dreamland. Blackburn or us, you decide ... but I've never in my life so hoped to be wrong! As for K. Bond - even ME couldn't be that stupid in his choice of manager ...could he?

It MUST be Ian Holloway or George Burley

Either would get us out of this emss and make us respecatble again given time.

Anyone else and we're down and finished for a generation.

Evans has managed to sign two fairly high profile managers in Keane and Jewell but I just don't see this happening. He's one of the best managers in England. Blackpool will be what they were without him. Crap.

Things didn't work out for him at Leicester though, and they're arguarbly a big club, maybe he's one of those managers who suits certain and we're the kind of team he would fit.

If I was ME I would do everything possible to get Ian Holloway at ITFC. In my eyes he is definitely what ITFC need to take them forward and back to where they belong.

Dicanio & Holloway - young and capable.
McCarthy and Curbs - safest alternatives.

Holloway would be a fantastic acquisition, 200% passion and a very good manager too, just what we need!!

In an autobiography Holloway has stated that he has a unique admiration for and fondness of ITFC, arising from the way Mr Sheepshanks treated him when he applied once before. All things being equal, he would regard it as a dream job.
No one knows if he still holds these views, but it is reasonable to assume he does.

Which merely leaves the question of whether he meets Evans' selection criteria, or if he has been filtered out by the process.
Intuitively, I feel that Clegg, with his Eton background, would not fancy Ollie for the top job.

Looking at those available, and semi-realistic :
Holloway: Number 1 choice to appease the majority of the ITFC faithful, quality manager, a real character and certainly would not take any s**t from the players.
Burley : A true blue but i have concerns that the second coming may not be as fruitful as the previous, a safe manager who knows us and the fans.
McCarthy : A good manager who would clear the ranks and make sure the players are all pulling in the same direction, again would not be unhappy with this appointment
Coyle : Done well previously and very much like McCarthy, would not be unhappy with him.
Curbs : For me has been out of the game too long and lost the connections / immediate reactions for the position we are in, if we were mid table would be happy, but we are not.
Bond / Jordan : Would be good but only if accompanied in some degree by Harry, cannot see this happening, and would not want any of these without Harry.
Shearer / Robinson / "young manager" : Would not be unhappy IF they appointed an experienced director of football to assist, i believe that we need strong management at the present time and an inexperienced man would not be capable of this, although of course they would be long term.
DiCanio / Butcher / Tarrico : Some good names there but a risk at the moment.
We can all agree to disagree i am sure as not everyone will be happy whoever the choice is, (except Ollie maybe) this is a MASSIVE appointment and has to be right, I would like them in before Saturday (hopefully midweek) as the more games the more losses and further adrift at the bottom.
Lots going on at ITFC i am sure but we do need someone to make a difference, and Evans to open his wallet in January.

I really hope that whoever comes in bring in Holland in some capacity. The fans desperately need someone that they can relate to. Someone who will provide a credible link between us & them.
As for who comes in all the candidates seem to have very similar records. All been promoted, all been relegated. So it all comes down to personal opinion and whoever gets it I hope they're given a far crack by us. Except megson. MEGSON OUT!!!

Don't get me wrong, I'm not necessarily against Ian Holloway getting the job. However, people seem to neglect the fact that as a manager he has relegated two teams from the Championship (QPR & Leicester), did a terrible job at both Plymouth (resigned) and Leicester (sacked), only just got promoted with Blackpool through the play-offs before getting relegated in his first season in the Premier League. They now sit in 12th in the Championship with a Premier League team.

So, while I admit Blackpool do play some attractive football, I'm not overwhelmed by his career stats and will be pretty surprised if he gets the job considering how difficult it's going to be turning things around here.

yesterday, i think the players made marcus evans mind up for him who our next boss will be.the first town match i went to was back in the late 70's.we played man city.we have had the greatest european teams grace portman rd(and players).and yet our players, who are very good players.some dont seem to care that they are at itfc and we expect a certain standard of play what ever division we are in.the past few years have been sooo not good enough.i think they are taking the mick out of us!the standard of football we are used to seeing and the type being played(go through the motions)is crap!we have some phobia about using short players,eg jamie peters.some may think he wasnt that good but he was in the roy keane era one who was always willing to bust a gut.how much of that did we see yesterday??? i personally would like to see ole gunnar take the reigns, but yesterday showed we need to sort the wheat from the chaff and this can only be a job for a butt kicker, owen(cuddles)coyle has been ruled out after yestrdays preformance.so these are my chioce for short list,mc carthy, ince, butcher and hoping against hope, megson . well as far as i'm concerned people make their own destinies, our sqaud has chosen.....

@ Tractorboybeer: I've been reading these for a few days now and yours is the first I agree entirely on... if you had of added: 'And absolutely no room for a Megson, Phil Brown, etc...' then I may have suspected I'd written it in a drunken haze!

@50yearsablue: Yeah, I hear what you're saying, you can't judge a manager too much on past events . However, I think the point I was trying to make was that, apart from one play-off promotion into the PL, the rest of his career has been full of negatives.

I can totally understand why fans would be keen to get him to PR, he's a pretty honest guy and Blackpool play some attractive football, and I will support him 100% if he gets the job, but I'm not convinced he is the man for us.

The more I think about it the more I'm swinging towards McCarthy.

Not sure about Holloway. Can he manage strugglers? Don't forget his less than glorious stint at Leicester.

Burley n Curbs - both out of the game too long, had their day, can't see it working TBH.
Holloway - a 'character', likes to play football, had some sucess but also has some pretty dismal failures. Not sure I can see him fitting in with Clegg or playing along with the mystery man ME BS. That's even assuming he'd want to come...

McCarthy - won't take any shyte from t'players, which we definitely need, as someone said the performance on Sat left no doubt that many ar$es need a right good kicking. I could put up with 'basic' football if it got us up, it's the championship not the champions league - winning most weeks and promotion would be entertainment enough for a while.

Agree with tractorboybeer / everyone else, a young or inexperienced manager would be way too risky with ME's track record. We need a Lyall / Big Fat Joe type statesman who can connect with us as ME obviously doesn't want to and Clegg is able to. Someone who can bypass Clegg and tell ME what's what when needs be, and can negotiate directly and credibly with the players / agents / families we need, and can sort out the few loanees we need and send the rest packing (with our apologies).

TBH none of the names bandied about have got me excited so far, and I'm nervous.....very nervous.

I would like to put forward the name of my milkman,Ernie Bates. He has managed an under 11s team so would fit in nicely with our first team.He told me he is fed up with full cream and would prefer a bit of past your ised.Sorry, that should have been ,past your best.
Some of our players are a disgace.

As I am in the mood for it,THE TROUBLE IS:-
We ahave a FIFA run by crooks,we have a uefa run by morons,
we have an FA run by muppets,we have a premier league that is greedy beyond belief,we have players with no loyalty at all, except to their pockets,we have sky tv dedicated to take complete control of the game ,swashing money to all the wrong people,we have a system where we pay huge sums of money for players ,who are given large contracts, making it very expensive to move them on if they decide ,I dont feel like playing today because I have had a boozy week and feel a bit off and we have a dishonest press that will print anything to sell a paper.Apart from that, footballs in great shape.COYB.
