Supporters Club Welcomes McCarthy to Town
Thursday, 1st Nov 2012 09:38

The official Supporters Club has welcomed the appointment of new manager Mick McCarthy and his assistant Terry Connor.

Chair Elizabeth Edwards said: “You would back Mick McCarthy to take on any bushtucker challenge in I’m A Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here.

“He is said to be a disciplinarian, he’s got a good record in management, he just might be exactly what we need. Town may no longer have celebrity players, but we certainly need someone to get us out of here.”

She added: “McCarthy has played at all levels of the game, and managed at all the levels where we hope still to be playing. His reputation is for ‘no nonsense’, something that fans will welcome — and I am pretty sure the same goes for most players, who will want to know where they stand.

“He did have a famous run-in with a former Town manager, of course, at the 2002 World Cup, but that’s a long time ago now, and it feels like just a footnote in football history. He will be joined by Terry Connor who has the advantage of having worked with McCarthy at Wolves.

“McCarthy has twice taken clubs out of the Championship in the right direction. If he achieves that this season, there will be clamour for the Co-Op to step aside for us to complete stand names after Town heroes.

“More realistically, we’ll be looking for him to get the best out of our squad, unearth some genius signings in January and allow us to luxuriate in a mid-table position that right now is about as far as we dare dream.”

McCarthy's appointment is set to be formalised at a Portman Road press conference at 5pm today.

Meanwhile, the club has called off today's Meet the Players signing session in Planet Blue due to the managerial appointment.

Psssssst, Lizzy. People in the real world don't think that celebrity "vote-off" programmes are cool. You sound like David Cameron trying to sound hip. "Oh Micky, you can Salsa with me anytime and we'll see if you have the X-Factor, oh yeah, on Ice"

FFS

Really, this is the best mouthpiece we can find.?
