Pearson Undecided on Wellens Loan Extension
Tuesday, 6th Nov 2012 08:51

Leicester manager Nigel Pearson says he’s yet to make a decision on whether Richie Wellens will be allowed to extend his loan with the Blues when his current month is up after Saturday’s game against Burnley. The 32-year-old was sent to Portman Road primarily to get fit after suffering a knee injury at the end of last season.

Pearson says he’ll look at the situation next week: "We have to see where we are with that when that comes around.

“We have not got the biggest squad and the whole idea of Richie going out was for him to get some games. That was the most important thing in terms of the next step in his rehabilitation."

"It is important that we recognise that it has been a successful loan period, and I will look at that closer to the time. We will see how he is towards the end of next week."

Meanwhile, the Blues have again been linked with Oldham striker Jose Baxter, 20. The former Everton man was previously mentioned in connection with Town last month.

That's a 'Thanks for the game time lads but we'll have our really good player back now he's up to speed.'

Ever felt you've been used?

PJ's use/addiction to the loan market has turned us into a laughing stock.

It was a stupid signing ,come to a struggling side to get match fit for a month.Hes a good player ,but for heavens sake what on earth is the point of a 4 week loan , unless perhaps its a player to cover for an injury at our end ie they help us .

Just drop Luke or Luongo in with Reo Coker and N'Daw. Our players (for now anyway). Simples.

I can understand Pearson point of view.

Jewell panic signed an unfit player...Not Pearson's issue.

well maybe make the decision for him tell him to go take a hike... i cant see Wellens getting into the team so Pearson will have him sitting on the bench gaining no match fitness at all, undoing all this hard work here. What a knob Pearson is, like Cotteral a manager i have never liked.

Agree with Worcester - no shortage of midfielders at the club so let him go back to Leicester and give Luongo, Hyam and Drury a chance. At least Drury can take a decent free kick which is something we needed when you saw Cresswell's dreadful series of free kicks against Sheffield Wednesday. It's loan defenders we needed more than midfielders and it was Jewell's failure to address the defensive weakness that cost him his job.

McCarthy is in a difficult position - just under two months until the transfer window opens and with many loans already at the club, there is little he can do. In January, he can decide whether to extend or terminate the loans - even the season long loans can be assessed then. In the meantime, McCarthy will need choices - he doesn't like the loan situation - but may feel having a player like Wellens at the club is advantageous ... but I suspect Leicester will want him back as whatever happens, by January we won't see him or Henderson again.

Note Drury comments ,he simply is turning in to a footballing crab ,ie sideways sideways sideways. When was his last assist ,when was his last goal ,when was his last tackle. I do not see what he offers when compared to other championship midfielders.

Nothing against Wellens, he's a decent player & wish he was one of ours. His loan signing for just 1 month when totally unfit, was typical of PJ's muddled thinking, which is why we are in this mess. I personally would prefer to see him go back to Leicester.

At least Wellens has given 100% whilst here. I am not sure on this one. I would like possible 1 more month, but I think that's a no no.

If he helps us get out of the bottom 3 then who cares if he's only on loan- only one priority at the moment and if he plays like he has done then I'm sure he will help Town.

Is this just Pearson saying 'he is still part of our set up' in order to demand top dollar for him when it comes to buying him?

If he did come out and say RW is no longer wanted at this club, his bargaining position is so much weaker.

Pearson told him at the start, either a league one club or a crap championship team in the bottom 3. I think Pearson now believes we are team capable of climbing out of the bottom 3, so he will have him back, to send him out to a league one team.

Really don't like Pearson at all, enough said on that one. Anyway glad Wellens came, if only to be the one who stood up for what he believed, top man, respect.

Now Mick send him back , let's use our players....COYB
