Wickham Linked With Return
Wednesday, 7th Nov 2012 13:52

Town boss Mick McCarthy wants to bring ex-Blues frontman Connor Wickham back to Portman Road on loan, according to reports in the North-East. Wickham joined Sunderland, the club McCarthy managed for three years until 2006, in the summer of 2011 for an initial fee of £8.1 million but has rarely featured for the Black Cats.

Wearsiders' boss Martin O’Neill is understood to be willing to allow Wickham to move out on loan with McCarthy said to have been interested in the England U21 international during his time at Wolves.

Former Blues manager Paul Jewell all but ruled out a move for Wickham in the summer due to the proportion of his wages Town, who have first refusal on the 21-year-old if he were to be sent out on loan, would be required to pay.

Earlier this week, McCarthy played down the chances of any immediate further loan additions to his squad with eight players already at the club on that basis.

Six of that total — Richie Wellens, Stephen Henderson, Massimo Luongo, Danny Higginbotham, DJ Campbell and Bilel Mohsni — are domestic loans with only five permitted in a matchday squad.

Blackburn Rovers and Wolves are also reported to be interested in Wickham, who has made just six starts and 13 sub appearances, scoring one goal, since moving to Wearside.

If we're going to try and squeeze in any more loans then please god make it a defender.

Sindre94 - Wellens won't be at Town in February Pearson only using us to get him fit again, Chopra has passed his best I'm afraid, need to shore up defence first that's a hard job on its own for MM but we live and pray for miracles

I'd be very happy to see Wickham back at Town, but not so sure it will happen. If it does then we will need to ship out someone - I suggest Murphy. What we really, really, really need though is a decent right back; and we should take the very best we can irrespective of wages!

Sindre

Martin will also be gone as he is all puff no result !
Wellins could be here and depending on results between now and Christmas is whether Reo-Coker will still be here !
MM is now fully aware that several of his current squad are not up to the job and will need to be replaced as soon as possible . We should see several changes for the game on Saturday with Martin and Murphy the first to go !

Although I would welcome Connor back, the problem is bigger than just one man. Connor would need the correct supply to him although I know he can dribble, which he won't get from the players we have at present. None, other than DJ know, where the net is; connor would know, But it's whats happening on the rest of the field. Remember it's a team event, even Van Persie would struggle to score in this team. Our defence is absolutely awful. Fresh start, get rid of the lot and let Mick build the correct foundations. COYB!!!

Really dislike loans - if you have too many they can get you relegated. Of course, everyone on this board knew that - sadly PJ and Clegg didn't. Another loan is completely pointless UNLESS we send a couple of the others back i.e. Wellens, Henderson and that chap from Southend.

In fairness MM only has the loan option until January - so if he wants a couple of new players, then fine. But only if others go. None of them (apart from DJ) are any good or added anything to the team.

Love Connor, course I do, but he's not exactly proved yet that he is a supergoalmachine, before we all get too excited. Trouble is, we've hot nobody who looks likely to be able to provide him with an assist even if he were. Added to that, we have a choice of inadequate goalies, who would ideally be replaced by someone quite good, a really really terrible defence with no cover - so it's a bit difficult even thinking about dropping/resting any of them and then a midfield that is only any good when the ball is plumb in the middle of the park - soon as it gets to either end of the pitch they all look hopeless 'n all. What I'm getting at us that at 0-0 last night, I think everyone thought we might pinch a goal from somewhere and it all seemed quite upbeat. Go one down and suddenly it's - now we HAVE to score at least one, and not concede any more, and that smple prospect seemed to completely knock the stuffing out of everyone. With a more solid defence and a bit of creativity in midfield, I think we might just have enough up front to pop a few in - as long as you disregard Murphy obviously - well anyway, sadly you can't just replace the whole team. Lastly, everyone's having a go at Drury, who has never been more than a jobbing midfielder, but how long ago was it that the same everyone was banging on about Drury/Hyam Drury/Hyam Jewell is a knob for not always playing Drury/Hyam? Poor old Hyam, by the way, who probably feels like he could turn up in Jamma's boots and still play better than this lot.

Him and DJ would make a good partnership up top I suspect, little and big, skillfull and powerfull, poacher and creator
surley worth a go
send henderson back, not much better than Loach and another loan player

We need four defenders first then a striker who can score goals. CW does not fit the bill. We got great money for a player with great potential, that is yet to be fulfilled.
Col Utd got two quality gooners who have turned their season around. Lets get quality in from bigger teams and fast. Two CB'S and two FB'S is a must

SINDRE- you've been playing FIFA 13 to much with that team.

Go for it, we need his height and inspiration up front.

Hopefully this will be a reality, but maybe after McCarthy has sorted out what to do with the current loan payers.

Strange how Murphy did ok for us back end of last season, now he's on a season long loan he's done next to nothing apart from score a goal at Brighton. I think Wickham up front would certainly be better than Chopra up there for work rate and might be a good partner for Campbell, but then will Campbell be off in January?

Thanks for responses, but I dont see the point in playing the likes of Murphy, Drury, Henderson in the future. Some will disagree, no problem with that

He'd fit the bill, young yes a but a big target man... yes please. Then offer Sunderland a nominal amount in January and bring him home for good?

Loach
Ainsley - Chambers - Higginbotham - Cresswell
Edwards - Hyam - Reo-Coker (if fit) - Martin
Wickham - Campbell

I do think this whole loan thing is becoming a bit ridiculous. We need a cohesive squad of players committed long term to the club otherwise we are going absolutely nowhere. Not half a bloody squad full of players here for a month, 3 months etc.

However this boy is a bit different as he was brought up at the club and was an absolute monster of a prospect before his premature move to the premier league.

I do wonder how his confidence is, but if we could get him till the end of the season its worth a punt.

Lets face it we are already looking a bit desperate mid November.

Are we getting Delaney, Rhodes and Trotter back on loan?

Would rather Wickham on loan than the disinterested looking Murphy

I really hope Clegg reads this!! Let me spell it out to you. It is a toss up. Either you pay what ITFC needs to pay OR . . . you have to pay what it takes us to keep out of division 1 (and believe me, to return to the championship will not be easy!!). Bring Connor back on loan. I believe (and hope) that he still loves ITFC, and it is a player like this that we need. You have to speculate to accumulate. You can even mention that ArnieMsBigToe convinced you of the fact. I would be honoured if you did so. . . Up the town!!!

By the way, I concur with what Sindre says. Drury and Murphy are over-rated and something should be done about those two.

Just read a bit more of the comments, posted by other contributors, Maybe, we should put Moshni in defence, The guy has something to prove. DEFINITELY, ship Murphy out and bring CW back to replace him.

BTW how sad did I feel when I listened to the radio last night and heard the names Delaney & Garvin, Bloody Roy Keane. What a tw@t!!

Talbs77 added 21:47 - Nov 7
ArnieMsBigToe, I agree with you on Garvan as he was always going to be a late developer and was in town side very young indeed.

Delaneys departure had nothing to do with Keane as he left this summer in what was a crazy decision by pj, by far his worst mistake in my view although lets beat around the bush here, we still had a defence with more holes than my string vest with him in it. In my view he was rubbish when he was here.

The question is how has a player who was crap playing for ITFC suddenly look so good playing for Palace?

But what is undeniable is Keane is definately a big cheesey bellend who has set this club back years!
