McCarthy: Campbell Won't Be Coming Back to Town
Friday, 18th Jan 2013 14:29

Blues boss Mick McCarthy has revealed that former loan striker DJ Campbell is set to leave QPR for another club but says his new side isn’t Town. The Blues manager says no further additions to his squad are currently imminent.

McCarthy says he has talked to Campbell about his situation: “I spoke to him yesterday and as far as I’m aware he’s going to a club and if it’s not been announced I’m not going to tell you.

“There are a couple interested in him but I think he’s going to end up at one of them. Good luck to him.

“I think the case is that he’ll be getting a three-year deal, he can look after himself and his family and it will take him to 34 coming up 35.

“And best wishes to him, because he was great for us. He was such a lovely guy and a really nice man and I hope he gets what he wants for himself and his family. He won’t be coming back here."

Crystal Palace and Hull City have both confirmed their interest, while Cardiff City have also been linked.

The Town boss says his expectation always was that the 31-year-old, who scored 10 times in 17 games during a three-month loan spell with the Blues, wouldn’t return to Portman Road: “I am disappointed, but that disappointment is slightly tempered by the fact I kind of knew what the score was going to be and I went and signed two strikers the week when he left.

“I thought that having played here and having done so well and scored the goals, he would have attracted the attention of somebody else that would give him a three-year deal and probably be in a better position than us to do it.”

McCarthy says no incoming signings are currently close: “We keep looking, we keep talking, but there’s nothing happening at the moment.”

Asked about interest in Colchester’s Anthony Wordsworth and Nottingham Forest’s Lee Camp, he was keeping his cards typically close to his chest: “One’s midfield player and the other one’s a goalkeeper! I wouldn’t tell you [if there had been discussions with their clubs].”

Yesterday it emerged that Blackburn could look to recall Bradley Orr when his loan spell is at an end after the Bristol City match, having previously agreed to an extension to the end of the season.

McCarthy says the situation will become clearer once the next two matches are out of the way: “It’s to be seen yet. I’ll deal with the two games yet, and then we’ll see.

“I think [new Blackburn manager] Michael Appleton probably does want to have a look at him, but let’s get these games out of the way. If I was him I’d be wanting to do it because I’d want all the players in. I want Bradley focused on our games, whatever happens.”

The Town boss confirmed that neither of the trialists involved in Monday’s U21 game at Charlton, Moldovan international defender Petru Racu and Banbury United winger Kynan Isaac, have been kept on.

There is nothing new regarding Josh Carson going out on loan or Jason Scotland moving on, either on loan or permanently.

Elsewhere, former Blues striker and coach Chris Kiwomya has been linked with the vacant manager's job at Blue Square Bet Premier side Tamworth.

This is why you sign players permanently.

Not that bpthered regarding DJ as I think Chopra would have scored if he'd been playing

I think us having signed 3 strikers may have put him off.

I still love how lots of our supporters try and pass off speculation as fact. They pass us tidbits that they couldn't possibly know for certain and don't add def info.

Still DJ thanks for the goals and best of luck for the future except whenever you play us.

Shame about DJ,I beleive he would of been the difference between finishing in top 10 or a few places above the drop zone.
