Smith Called Up
Wednesday, 20th Feb 2013 14:37

Defender Tommy Smith has been named in the New Zealand squad for their World Cup qualifiers against New Caledonia and the Solomon Islands next month.

The All Whites face the New Caledonians at home on March 22nd and the Solomon Islands away four days later. New Zealand have won all four of their World Cup qualifiers up to now.

Smith is in the running to be named the new permanent All Whites skipper having previously worn the armband in the absence of recently retiring former captain Ryan Nelsen.

I think Kisnorbo showed at Villa that he will be a good replacement for those games.

smith is the standout player of the season. Nobody else gets close.

Kisnorbo was unfortunate to be on losing team at Villa, due to our unadventurous midfield that day :(

Kisnorbo was awful like hyam and reo-cocker vs. Villa

Dowson- what game where you watching. What PK lacked in pace he made up for in tackles headers and blocks. I seem to remember one time in the game where he lost the ball on the half way line but got all the way back to block a shot which was going straight into the net.

oscarwhiting- I quite agree. Dowson are you sure you were even there? Kisnorbo was excellent except for one poor tackle after 10 mins where he gave a free kick away on the edge of our box. He was solid in the air and actually marshalled the defence. Personally he would of started the next game if I'd been picking the team.

Good news for Tommy, but not such good news for ITFC

Agree Muhren. It shows how far TS has come on that these international call ups are now a right pain.

Please give up travelling round the world to play these qualifiers against hopeless opposition. Especially as you are a Kiwi only as a result of the dubious "past residency" rule.
