Blues in the Hunt for Pack
Friday, 31st May 2013 21:30

Town are one of a number of Championship clubs understood to be interested in out-of-contract Cheltenham central midfielder Marlon Pack. The 22-year-old, who saw a switch to Swindon break down in January, has also recently been mentioned in connection with Charlton and Sheffield Wednesday.

Portsmouth-born Pack started his career with his hometown club, spending time on loan at Wycombe, Dagenham and Redbridge and Cheltenham while with Pompey.

Having spent the whole of 2010/11 on loan at Whaddon Road, Pack signed a two-year permanent deal following his release from Fratton Park.

Cheltenham are keen to hold on to the 6ft 2in tall playmaker and have offered him a new contract but expect him to move on during the summer. If and when he does leave the League Two Robins will be entitled to compensation as Pack is under 24.

Despite former Bristol City skipper Cole Skuse having become Mick McCarthy’s first addition of the summer, the Blues still appear to be short on central midfielders with Andy Drury released and loanee Guirane N’Daw believed not to have been offered terms.

Seen him play a few times and always looked quite a creative player but two divisions is a big step up.

From the descriptions he sounds like he has the sort of skills we need and he is young. Weighed against that is the fact he has only played in league two. If the story is true then you have to accept Mick's judgement in the knowledge that this guy is not going to cost the earth.

Wiki says technically gifted play maker who takes a good set piece. Just the type of player we need if he is good enough.

Headline should be 'Pack in new links to Town'

Analysis of his strengths and weaknesses published last year on Swindon Town FC fan site 'The Washbag' -

On a serious note I really like the sound of him from what I've read, young, hungry and cheap.

Don't get me wrong I like Wordsworth but you are actually allowed to have more than one playmaker in your squad.

No idea.
Great news that N'Daw hasn't been offered a deal though! Completely the right decision.
