McCarthy Cash Clash Claim
Sunday, 2nd Jun 2013 11:30

Blues manager Mick McCarthy is on “a collision course” with those in control of the purse strings at Portman Road, according to one of this morning’s tabloids.

The People reports that rumours are circulating boardrooms elsewhere that McCarthy is unhappy with his summer transfer war chest and could move on if “the managerial merry-go-round stops at his door”.

It’s not the first time that there have been suggestions that McCarthy is dissatisfied with the budget he discussed with owner Marcus Evans last month.

Former Blues striker Alan Brazil has said that he has heard similar rumours on his Talksport show several times in recent weeks: "I heard a little whisper that perhaps the salaries are going to be cut, not just a little, but massively."

Asked whether he felt McCarthy might move on, he added: "I'm not saying he's going to go, I don't want to start scaremongering but... you're looking to kick on."

Town have already lost out to Blackburn for the signature of former Notts County winger Alan Judge, while ex-Wolves midfielder Stephen Hunt has also been offered significantly better terms by other Championship clubs.

However, speaking towards the end of the season, McCarthy seemed relaxed about competing on an uneven playing field in the transfer market when discussing the limitations that the Financial Fair Play rules would place upon Town: “It’s not fair, but I kind of like kicking against fair. I like all that, a bit of a scrap between the haves and have-nots.”

Elsewhere, Crystal Palace have been linked with a £2 million move for Blues left-back Aaron Cresswell.

The 23-year-old has also recently been mentioned in connection with Aston Villa, who made an enquiry regarding the Liverpudlian last summer.

If there is serious interest from either party, the Blues are likely to want rather more than £2 million for Cresswell with his former club Tranmere due 20% of any profit Town make on the £420,000 they have paid for the full-back since he moved to Portman Road in July 2011. A fee of around £3 million would appear a more realistic price.

Released Sunderland defender Matt Kilgallon is again linked with the Blues, with the 29-year-old widely reported to have held talks with Town earlier in the week.

Town, newly-promoted Crystal Palace, Middlesbrough, Leeds and Reading are all targeting released Wolves striker Sylvan Ebanks-Blake, according to one of Sunday’s papers.

Blues boss McCarthy was the man who took the 27-year-old to Molineux but a reunion at Town seems unlikely with Ebanks-Blake set to miss the start of the season having suffered a broken leg and undergone ankle surgery towards the end of the last campaign.

Try saying it quickly more than once sober!!
On a serious note I don't read these tabloids through choice because of the crap they spuriosly pump out. I would prefer not to have to read it on here but i suppose everything has to be brought to attention wether it be true or not. Won't lose sleep though till I hear it from a more reliable source.

missing out on two decent signings due to whatever reason may cheese off Mick McCarthy more than you think! If it continues he will be off without doubt.. He is a wanted manager at an ambitious club, which we dont seem to be.. if MM is here in august I will be pleasantly surprised..

Why is this article relevant copy and paste again!! MM has already stated that he is working on reduced budgets due to FFP. Maybe these budgets would be improved if so call town fans got off there arm chairs and went to homes games? or purchased season tickets then maybe he would have more money to play with in the transfer market. Just a thought? wake me up when the season starts ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Do any of you think players ( Murphy etc ) would be thinking of signing if MM was not going to be here next season ? MM has already stated his acceptance of FFP reducing budgets for most teams ( except the FFP rules are not fair due to parachute payments ) and will be working to them .

Top comment. Perhaps if Evans made the games more affordable for the average family to go to then we'd have big crowds, more money with FFP and an atmosphere that Portman Road used to have!

If there is any truth in the People story then maybe the People can say what club would want MM. The only current Premiership club looking for a manager is Everton and they most definitely would not want him, not with his style of kick and rush football.
Cant see him going to another championship club so he will just have to get his finger out and work with what he has got.
Still if it happens it happens there is nothing anyone on here can do about it.

I would imagine The People picked this up from the Norwich run EADT who like nothing better than to run Town down these days.

To be honest if there were any truth to it MM holds all the aces in that if he and TC leave Evans is in big trouble. He would struggle to attract a manager of any stature and I suspect whats left of our fanbase would turn on him big style!

BlueArmy01. Are you employed by the club? You do like to give the impression you are in know about the finer details of these player negotiations. Out of interest how much was Martin on exactly? What did we offer Judge and what does he earn at Blackburn? I'd love to know please.

I hope the rumours are just that however there is no smoke without fire and these have persisted for the last few weeks.

I first heard them when a freind of mine who works at the triaing ground was insistant MM had a huge row with ME and stormed out at which point I said thats got to be complete rubbish.

Now I'm not so sure, hope its all bollocks.

I have heard from 2 reliable sources that Harry Forrester has signed a 3 year deal and it will be announced this week! So this will make a complete mockery of all this lazy journalism talk! Why people take any notice of that old soak Brazil is beyond me!

Rubbish.

If he does leave, he is not the man I thought he was.

Talbs the situation is that ME needs MM & TC more than they need him and if he fails to back them with the finances that they require they will both be gone. ME will be seriously fooked because no way wll he then be able to recruit another manager of the same calibre. If there is any substance in this (which I doubt) I think that ME will blink first as he has far too much to lose and he knows that any last vestiges of support from the Town fans will evaporate.

...... had a feeling this would happen - will not only need a few players in, will need a new Manager - MM will not put up with this, and will be in demand elsewhere.

If this happens - this Club is going nowhere - other than in totally the wrong direction.

Just found this on a forum from a poster. It may or may not all be true, but it definitely makes a lot of sense and all sounds there or there abouts. Maybe this MM story has come out around the stearman and Forrester transfer particulars. I've read on a few sites that the Forrester deal is imminent too...

From a forum:

'Right, you're going to have to bare with me, I've got a lot of news coming for Ipswich Town fans. For those of you who remember me, I broke the Elliott Hewitt and Scott Loachs move to ITFC on here last summer, and also Aaron McLeans and David McGoldricks moves in January.

All this information is from my usual, well reliable, source from within the club.

Firstly, Jay Emmanuel-Thomas? 2 offers, one from Fulham, with ITFC receiving 2 players from in return, one on loan, and one on a permanent deal. The other offer has been rejected from an unknown club.

Marlon Pack of Cheltenham has a straight choice between Ipswich Town and Sheffield Wednesday, with ITFC his preferred choice.

Matt Killgallon, recently released by Sunderland, is in talks, although I understand he isn't keen to play second fiddle to Smith and Chambers. He's looking at other options.

Kirk Broadfoot of Blackpool is to sign a 2 year contract this coming week with Ipswich Town. He is seen as a cheaper option than Richard Stearman, who ITFC are not keen on paying Wolves their quoted price of £1million.

Sylvan Ebanks-Blake? I'm told Mick and TC are very keen to bring him to ITFC. However, his injury is a problem. I understand Ipswich are keen to offer Ebanks-Blake a pay-as-you-play deal until January, and if returns to full fitness, a 18 month deal will be on offer to him in January.

Harry Forrester is now McCarthys top transfer target due to losing out on Alan Judge to Blackburn. I understand a contract has been offered to Forrester and he's massively keen to come to Ipswich, however, compensation is proving to be a sticky point, which mean it could end up going to a tribunal.

Stephen Hunt is one who won't be joining Ipswich. Again, was very keen to come here, but finances at ITFC have stopped that.

Ipswich scouts had spent a lot of time in Scotland since January, so it's comes as no surprise that we are linked with the likes of Kenny McLean and Paul McGowan. Although McGowan is now likely to sign a new deal with St Mirren.

Lastly, Chris Forrester of St Pats in island. I fully expect him to sign for Ipswich this summer.

That's all folks, you can believe me or not believe me, but this is what I've been told, and what I know. If I am told anything more, I'll be sure to post it on here.

..... having read through these posts, many fans are doing the 'norm' when they hear something they would rather not hear - head in the sand, go into denial mood, and slag anyone off who dares to think otherwise.

We hope not - but this could well be another unsettled pre season.

jason0999 - agree with you.

This is my worry that insufficient funds will lead to MM becoming disenchanted and will result in his exit. I acnt believe that we're the only club affected by the FFP as other clubs seem to have more funds than Town!!
Evans must back MM

Worrying IF true,it would be a huge loss if MM were to leave now.BUT surely he would have had some indication of what would be available when he was in negotiatios with the club for his job !. The Club is not in the best of shape financialy, with considerable debts,im sure MM would have been aware or made aware of the limitations.Hopefully this ''story'' is just another crock of sh*t.

Isn't it a shame that in close season we have to endure such negative comments .All these sports programmes / transfer rumours etc just makes the whole situation worse. Whether we like it or not we are in the Championship and the gulf is getting wider every year with all the add ons that are available in the Premier League Unfortunately we are where we are regarding the ownership of the club and the money that is allowed to be spent on players certainly will not see us bringing in the players that are needed . I hope that I am wrong. If Mick feels that he will not have the backing and decides to leave I can see attendances slipping even further . This could be the end of our club as we know it . Speculate to accumulate Mr Evans and let this man do his job. You clearly have the financial resources .
