Henderson Close to Loan Return
Saturday, 15th Jun 2013 22:30

TWTD understands that Town are close to completing the re-signing of West Ham keeper Stephen Henderson on a season-long loan.

Henderson spent two spells with the Blues during 2012/13, initially between October and January when he made 16 appearances before returning later that month and playing eight games prior to being recalled by the Hammers after their young keeper Raphael Spiegel suffered a finger injury.

With West Ham recently having signed Spanish keeper Adrian on a free transfer from Real Betis as competition for last season's first choice Jussi Jaaskelainen, Henderson’s opportunities at Upton Park would be limited during the campaign ahead.

The 25-year-old is contracted to the Hammers until the summer of 2015, having joined from Portsmouth, initially on loan, in March 2012.

Town had previously shown interest in signing Henderson on a permanent basis during the January transfer window.

Dubliner Henderson started his career in English football with Bristol City, during which time he spent spells on loan at York City, Weymouth, Aldershot and Yeovil.

Having released Arran Lee-Barrett and Jason Brown at the end of the season, the Blues look set to bring in two new keepers with out-of-contract Tranmere man Owain Fon Williams understood to have been offered terms.

The reason he is on loan is because we cannot match his wages. Remember his parent club are in the prem and we are cost cutting - big time.

No thanks

Not because he's a bad keeper or anything. But its a loan again taking the place of a good signed keeper (and one who is a true blue).

Loach did well towards the end of the season, and showed he deserves his position.

We obviously need another keeper, so why not go for the best? Anyway, Henderson could well end up signing for ITFC, with West Ham paying part of his wages in the meantime!

Great news as long as there is no 24 hour recall. I would have preferred us to sign him permanently, but it's obvious that we can't afford his premier league wages. He already has built up a good understanding with the defence, so in a way this is better than bringing in a new keeper who will take a while to settle in. Also there will be a lot of competition to get between the sticks this season and I think Loach will be up for the challenge.

I'm sorry but once again this highlights why loans are so wrong, especially before the season has even started ffs, emergency loans during the season maybe, but this is the reason right through our game why youngsters aren't getting their chance, if they're in a squad then they play, simple.

Good keeper yes, of course, but WH will obviously have some kind of recall in place....we can't afford to buy him obviously(wages long term)and this now means a lack of games for Loachy obviously, that will bite us at some point you see.

When will we ever learn regarding loan keepers? In the last 10 years we have had Pollitt ,Begovic, Stockdale, McCarthy and Hendo twice recalled by parent clubs while on loan at Town we need a PERMANT number 1 keeper who is not on loan whoever that may be.

Great news. Better keeper than Loach and after a rough start from some of our "suporters" played an important part in helping turning our season round. I hope Scott stays to fight for his place but relaxed if he doesn't want to.

Dont agree with loaning a player already however i believe this is a very clever move by MM. Yes there is a bit of pressure on loach to do well but hopefully it will push him to get better and better, and should he have a bad couple of games then hendo is more than capable of steeping in. Both good keepers just what we need for the season ahead. COYB!!

I think b4 we all start slating MM we should look a bit deeper. The Shammers will probably want more than we can currently afford, get Hendo in for a season, a further year down the contract, a love of ITFC and a real wish to stay , possibly in the prem as No1, we get our man cheaper and better!!!! In MM we trust.

I'd rather just sign him than take him on another loan deal

If West Ham are going to be paying Andy Carroll £100k a week perhaps they might consider a cheeky bid to get Henderson off the wage bill?

These stories have no truth as MM does is business quietly, just wait until ITFC announce signings all these rumours are rubbish, not true and boring ZZZZZZZ

agreed - glad he's back for the competition between the sticks as he was quite impressive in his second loan spell but should he be on loan again?

If true ok but its more important at this stage to keep cresswell and sign stearman and who knows StuartBrett9 maybe onto something.

Has his distribution improved while he's been away? Not happy with another loanee and think he's a poor kicker. Feel for Loach who's done little wrong.

Although unpopular, for me Loach isn't good enough. However, I really dislike the idea of our No. 1 GK being a loanee. Having said that, if it's for an entire season, without any sort of recall, it could be a decent signing. Thought he played very very well under MM.
