Town to Run Rule Over Irish Winger
Friday, 28th Jun 2013 21:19

TWTD understands that Town are set to run the rule over Waterford United midfielder Jack Doherty during their spell training in Ireland next week. The 18-year-old left winger will spend time with the squad and could play a part in the friendly against Shelbourne at Tolka Park, Dublin next Saturday.

Clonmel-born Doherty came through the youth system at the Airtricity League side and was promoted to the first team squad in August 2011. Since then he has established himself as a regular member of the senior squad.

Capped by Ireland Schools, Doherty was called up to an Ireland U19 squad for a training camp in Spain in March.

We understand that Doherty previously spent time training at Playford Road when a schoolboy.

Town and Doherty are due at Carton House in County Kildare for the start of their training camp on Monday with the hotel currently hosting the Irish Open golf.

Does sound positive but is there any truth in the Chris Forrester rumours?

I trust Mick to unearth some Irish gems with his contacts over there. He's done it before!

Don't know him but he's from Clonmel so there must be method the magners of this decision.

I like the sound of this more than Joel Grant. This is an 18 year old who we can mould into a good player of the next few years. Grant is 25 years old and never been linked with anyone better than us so he can't be that good!

MM knows this market well and it's obviously good to check out promising youngsters.

But I still think we are short of at least three more senior players. We need cover at CB, a new GK (either as competition for Loach or preferably (IMO) a new No. 1) and a RB. You could also argue we need at least one new winger.

Albert Adomah if he is still at Bristol why have we not made attempt to get him. We are crying out for a direct pacey winger who can beat a player

Ipswich24 - probably because Bristol City don't want to sell him and he's a right winger which we have plenty of options for already.

Having said that he is in the last year of his contract! Would love to see him here though.

No need to panic, the right players at the right price takes time. What is to say we are not talking to Adomah and many others. Patience is a virtue.

Was only a late sub last night in a 3-0 win. Is one for the future, has to be given time.

Cant believe the amount of experts we have on here.. I'm sure Mr McCarthy wont be flattered by the continued b*m lic*ing by some..

Is the name 'running out' derived from literally having nothing of interest to say, no logical thought or interesting ideas/discussions to share with other Town fans on this forum?

I'd say so.

guess the lad must have impressed so mick wants to see in traing if he is up to standard when playing alongside our senior players.
i like the sound of this as he will prob be cheap wages wise and we need a left winger.

i think jas0999 is correct about needing 3 more players a left winger who could be this lad, a defender for cover and a gk but in my opinion we should have loach as are number 1 and sign a back up gk-dean gurkin who is training with us can do that job.

all in all i think we are nearly there and im more optimistic than ive been in a long time.

Prefer if we were looking at Chris Forrester.
