Robins Want to Keep Anderson
Monday, 1st Jul 2013 18:34

Bristol City would prefer to buy Jay Emmanuel-Thomas from Town and hang on to winger Paul Anderson rather than doing a swap deal, it's being reported. The Blues and Robins have been in discussions regarding the proposed swap but with Bristol City boss Sean O’Driscoll having said that the deal is “a long way from bearing fruit” earlier today.

According to BBC Bristol sources, it was Town that instigated the move, offering City Emmanuel-Thomas, who along with Michael Chopra was made available for transfer at the end of 2012/13, despite having a year remaining on his contract.

The Robins would ideally like to pay a fee for the 22-year-old midfielder, who played for O'Driscoll during a loan spell at Doncaster while with Arsenal, and hold on to Anderson, 24, as they look to bounce back from relegation to League One at the first attempt.

While Emmanuel-Thomas, who was charged with misconduct by the FA this afternoon, did not travel with the Town squad to Ireland this morning, with the deal still a long way from completion it’s now reported that he was not at Ashton Gate for talks today, as had been claimed would be the case over the weekend.

Elsewhere, former Blue Titus Bramble, 31, is training with West Ham following his release by Sunderland at the end of the season.

Would be very interested to see what figure they'd be offering.

........ prefer to buy rather than loan ! - slightly different to our recent Club Policy.

Credit to them - much better than being subject to a crazy '24 hour recall' scenario, that has been all to familiar to us recently.

Would be interesting to see how much we would lose on this one.
Undisclosed fee I guess if it goes through.

Michael11 - I don't think you would, probably in the region of 200,000.

blues1 ................................. or indeed SWAP should I have said - it's plain they do not want to let Anderson go.

The point I was making is that they are prepared to BUY players - which seems to be totally off our radar right now !!!!

Of course there was no mention of a loan (that we know of anyway) in this instance - but refreshing to their supporters that they are prepared to (once again) BUY players.

and so would we be willing to buy players if we deem it necessary. im certain that we are still trying to do a deal for stearman for instance. mm has already said he wouldn't rule out signing him. however, why is there ne need to pay a fee for players if you can get an equally good player who is out of contract, thus not needing to pay a fee to another club. and if you think these deals come free of charge, think again. theres always a big signing on fee that goes to the player and prob his agent, which wouldn't be far off what youd have paid in transfer fees neway. so whichever way, youd still be paying for the player you sign. do see where you coming from on this point but personally, I don't care if we pay a fee or not. if hes good enough and performs that's fine with me. would you moan if we signed messi out of contract? and before you say it, no im not suggesting that even a slight possibikity. just making a point

We've bought four quality players this summer already without any fees paid. That is not to be sniffed at!

...... just one point Blues1 and minus punchers - we are supposed to be making these comparisons with a Club that is seen by most of you as 'smaller' (but not necessarily better) than us - are we not ?

But agree with you Blues1 - good players do not necessarily have to cost big money, and 'freebies' can sometimes pay off - put I do NOT like 'loans' other than in Emergencies - and we have had too many of them.

Stability (and progress) doesn't come with too many of those - AS WE KNOW.

@menacinho

I accidently down rated your comment, you're spot on. Murphy, Skuse, Murphy and Tabb are very good players at this level and we haven't paid a penny. It almost makes up for th money lost on JET with them 4 signings.

Obviously i meant McGoldrick in my previous comment not Murphy x2 haha

Hope they do buy him, for a decent fee though so we can hopefully bring in someone like stearman! COYB

Problem is if we are able to get anything Evans will simply trouser the money as he did with Walters and Wickham.

It's out of contract freebies for us I'm afraid - but I'd still rather have committed freebies with MM keeping them on their toes than wasters such as Jet and Chopra.

The budgies got up out of League 1 with a load of unheard of nonentities and continued in the Championship. We can do the same if we can find the right motivated players.

From my facebook link with TWTD there is a rumour we are after Lewis McGugan, not appeared on here though. He's on a free, I'd have him. Thoughts?

@siebdykstra

He's a great player who I think most of us would love to have at the club, but I think he would be offered much better wages elsewhere and I'm not even sure we could match what he was on at Forest last season. Last I heard Notts Forest were talking to him about a new contract.
Worth MM giving it a shot though. After all, If you don't ask you don't get.

Siebdykstra - I would definitely take McGugan. Game changer whether coming off the bench or not. Young hungry and full of goals. We need someone who's comfortable getting shots on target from long range, been a while since we had that dynamic!
