FA Fine JET
Monday, 8th Jul 2013 13:28

[Now former] Town midfielder Jay Emmanuel-Thomas has been fined £3,000 and warned as to his future conduct by the FA after a Tweet which was deemed to have been “improper and/or brought the game into disrepute”, breaking Rule E3. The 22-year-old is close to completing a switch to Bristol City with winger Paul Anderson moving in the opposite direction.

An FA statement reads: “Ipswich Town’s Jay Emmanuel-Thomas has been fined £3,000 and warned by The FA as to his future conduct for a breach of FA Rule E3 in that he posted a comment on Twitter which was improper and/or brought the game into disrepute.

“Further to the charge was that the comment included a reference to a person or persons’ sexual orientation within the meaning of FA Rule E3(2).

“Emmanuel-Thomas denied the charge and requested a paper hearing. However, at an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing the charge was found proven.”

The former Arsenal man, who was charged last Monday, has been spoken to by Town regarding the tweet which is understood to have been made a number of weeks ago.

How can you call someone names when no one seems to know what the actual tweet was? The FA are not exactly paragons of virtue....

Good to see he got what he deserved. He's good value on Twitter for the majority of the time, but this was out of order. Onwards and upwards (or downwards for him and League 1).

Karlosius: What was out of order? Do you actually know the content of the tweet? Some of us would like to know.

AbujaBlue ........... I would say it is obvious that the FA have copies of the 'Tweet' so they know what it says and who was named in it.

Even the FA aren't stupid enough to print the precise wording of the tweet or name the person whom it was about.

BergholdBlue: I wasn't expecting the FA to publish the tweet. The fact was it was obviously in the public domain for 'x' amount of time so I'm just surprised that none of Jet's 31,188 followers picked up on this 'offensive' tweet.

Can't see JET being the type of person who tweeted anything with malice. More likely he said something that was taken out of context due to political correctness going mad.

Can't help but be amused by the very conspicuous "[now former]" in the intro!

Seems amusing he would chose to 'deny' the charges, it's not as if he can hide the evidence! Oh well I guess it's not our problem any more

I would suspect he denied the charge on the basis that he did not deem it offensive or homophobic. Obviously the FA's independent regulatory commission disagreed.
