Blues Linked With Hull Winger
Thursday, 18th Jul 2013 20:43

Town, Blackpool and Charlton are all reported to be showing interest in transfer-listed Hull City winger Cameron Stewart. The 22-year-old, along with former Blues loanee Aaron Mclean, has been made available for transfer by the Tigers despite having a year remaining on his contract.

Speaking last weekend, Hull boss Steve Bruce said: "I do think it's important that they go and play somewhere, but at the moment we haven't had any offers as such.

"I'm sure they'd both want to play more football this season, but that's not something I can guarantee here."

Stewart began his career with hometown club Manchester United during which time he spent spells on loan at Yeovil and Hull before moving to the KC Stadium on a permanent basis in January 2011. Last season most of his appearances came while out on loan at Burnley and Blackburn.

Hull are said to be willing to allow him to leave for a relatively small fee with his future reportedly set to be sorted over the weekend.

While another winger doesn’t appear to be amongst Town’s priorities at present with Paul Anderson signed from Bristol City and Jack Doherty close to a switch from Waterford United, however, Mick McCarthy does like to have strength in depth and competition in all areas of the squad.

Last summer, Wolves were linked with Stewart, after McCarthy had left Molineux but while Terry Connor and scouts Dave Bowman and Ian Evans were still at the now-League One club.

Elsewhere, Doherty, 18, was left out of Waterford's squad for a friendly with a Manchester United XI this evening.

Meanwhile, the Blues are reported to have been eyeing a season-long loan move for United’s 21-year-old Belgian right-back Marnick Vermijl.

Vermijl was in the United reserves side which beat Club Brugge 1-0 on Monday, a game watched by Blues manager Mick McCarthy. Centre-half Scott Wootton was previously understood to have been the player being watched by the Town manager.

Having been a youth player with Bocholt VV and Standard Liège back in his home country, Vermijl joined United’s academy in 2010.

The Belgian U21 international’s only senior appearance for the Red Devils came in last season’s Capital One Cup tie against Newcastle.

While Vermijl may have been viewed as a potential target, as revealed earlier, the Blues were in the process of completing the signing of his former team-mate Frederic Veseli this afternoon, a switch which now looks likely to be confirmed on Friday.

With Elliott Hewitt already in the squad, Town now wouldn’t appear to be in the hunt for another right-back.

Another young Player Mick is looking to bring to the club, well done for signing young, promising players and turning them into brilliant players.

Haven't seen much of the lad play but sounds good to me to have another winger. It seems that Mick's keen to have 2 players for every position to keep everyone on their toes.

Crikey I'm having trouble keeping up with all these potential signings, our Mick doesn't hang about does he? If true, it shows that Town are so gonna be up at the top this coming season; and I wouldn't miss it for the world. COYB

Have to say, whilst no money has been spent, if we can offload the bad apple that is Chopra we'll have a very good squad and team spirit, no superstars but a team full of grafters and some real competition for places at last.
Chopra gone and a decent striker in would be the icing on the cake if there is money to spend.
Starting to get excited now!

Hope these aren't true, got enough strikers, think Doherty is a better option and cheaper, and Veseli and Hewitt are enough for Right-Back.

Not too keen on this one. He wasn't good enough for Hull, Burnley and Blackburn last season, so not sure what he can really bring to us?

Come on Phil it's been an hour since we have been linked with another player we are signing.... seriously though I am a bit worried we might suddenly hear we have sold someone? Hope not!

Nice to most people being so positive on here now.It was surprising to me how a lot were even positive under previous managers;but some were abusive to those who dared to disagree. Not necessary!
Like most am looking forward to new season;but am not getting too carried away yet despite the 100% record in friendlies.
Tend to agree with Kentish Tractor on this one though;but must remember these are only rumours so we must trust our Manager to make the right decisions on new players.
Nice to see players wanting to come here once more and Mick getting things sorted unlike Jewell who was scratching around as deadline day loomed, because he had failed to land most of his targets.

Not getting carried away but...I think some people are forgetting how good we were end of last season - adding these new signings, especially a decent winger will only re-enforce a certain promotion challenge - Much down to Mick, but he must also have the full support of ME.

Marcus Evans must think all his christmas's have come all at once quality players coming in and nothing spent. Think we might be the envy of other clubs at the moment specially when they all want to play for MM & TC.
BRING IT ON COYB

The more clubs a player is linked to the less likely the deal. This could be an agent listing all the clubs he has ever heard of. Mick is doing amazing business, but try to remain calm until the deals are confirmed.

I'm not coincided another midfielder is MM top priority, I do think we need more competition in central defence though. We have a relativity small squad but have two players capable for each position which is great!
GK- Loach, Gerkin
DEF - Hewitt, Vaselli, Mings, Chambers, Smith, Cressy
MID - Edwards, Hyam, Wardsworth, Anderson, Tabb, Skuse
CF - Taylor, Murphy, McGoldrick, Nouble, Marriott

Chopra can rot

Don't get excited guys !
Stewart is predictable and plays with no passion .....
He came back from burnley looking more like a pie taster than a footballer ( Bruce openly condemned his lack of fitness ) .
Leicester offered us £1.5m 2 seasons ago and we turned it down and god knows why ? He might be hungry for it after a disappointing return ? Could have been a very good player but until he sorts his head out and knuckles down, I'm afraid he is average at best !!!

This guy could certainly get the ball and pace away with it, be quite decent if we signed him

I am amazed at how excited a lot of people are on here! For goodness sake it says "linked" and means absolutely nothing, in a day or two you will probably hear he has signed for Timbuktu or somewhere. Remain calm, remember we are British!!!

I'm agreeing with Hulldaz, though Mick wont take slackers, we've already seen that. If he can get Stewart working at his potential we will be onto something, otherwise I'm not convinced. Can see this being another one on the JET and Chopra list.

Anyone now coming to ITFC know they will have to work hard under MM & TC to be in a team with promotion/playoff potential, any signs of slackening in any of their performances and you will not even make the bench. Seems like the good days are returning to PR. COYB's.
