Redmond Hoping for Blues Backing
Tuesday, 15th Oct 2013 10:32

Norwich midfielder Nathan Redmond has called on Town supporters to ignore domestic rivalries and get behind him during tonight’s England U21 international at Portman Road (KO 6pm, live on BT Sport). Gareth Southgate's side take on Lithuania in a Euro 2015 qualifier.

Redmond told the FA website: “You do get stick wherever you go with different clubs and their rivalries, but we’re playing for the nation at home.

“So hopefully I won’t get too much stick but I’ll have my head screwed on if selected to play. We’ve had some decent crowds with the U21s recently, so hopefully we’ll get a decent turn out at Ipswich.”

The 19-year-old, who joined the Canaries from Birmingham over the summer, believes Southgate has a strong group of players from which to pick his side: “You can just see the talent that we have in the squad in training, it’s healthy competition and we’re all mates on and off the pitch.

“It’s always good to come together and see the lads and the staff get together. It makes you wonder sometimes, if the players were all in one club side, it would be a very tough side to stay in.

“You can never underestimate the other lads and it is enjoyable in training so it’s nice to be a part of it as always.”

Meanwhile, Burnley striker Danny Ings has been ruled out of tonight's game with an ankle injury, but isn't expected to miss the Clarets' visit to Portman Road on Saturday.

Tickets for tonight's game cost £10 for adults and £5 for concessions and can be bought online from ITFC Direct, or at Planet Blue until 4.30pm when they will be available on the East of England Co-Op Stand turnstiles for cash at no additional cost.

I thought he was a great player when he was at Birmingham. My view hasn't changed now he plays for the scum, and it would be good to put rivalries aside for this match.

I guess it's the difference between the fans with the intelligence to know it's just a bit of banter and a rivalry and the morons foaming at the mouth screaming obscenities etc.

As SoleBay said though, if he hadn't mentioned it I doubt most Town fans would know who he was.

Hopefully our idiot fans will act like adults tonight and cheer him. But I doubt it our fans are too stupid to do anything like that.

Didn't say I would boo him especially as he's an England player, fact remains he's NCFC.
it was meant to be slightly humourous to be honest but if you took offence then so be it, suggest you get over it.

Luckily the grown ups among us (Ipswich and Norwich fans) get on well when we travel abroad to support England. It may not be the same on local derby day but when we support the national team we are on the same side
