No Colchester Return for Wordsworth
Thursday, 14th Nov 2013 11:20

Colchester boss Joe Dunne says he has not made contact with the Blues regarding a loan return to the Weston Homes Community Stadium for ex-U’s midfielder Anthony Wordsworth.

Dunne was at Town’s U21 match on Monday to watch the 24-year-old in action but confirmed that he has not followed up his interest at his pre-match press conference this morning.

“Anthony is available for loan at Ipswich but I don’t think he’ll be coming to us," he said.

“I’ve made no contact with Ipswich about him. I know what Anthony can do and he’s a tremendous talent.

“He’s at a stage of his career now where he needs to play games now. Mick [McCarthy] knows what’s best for his club and I’m not going to spend too much time talking about other clubs’ players."

Speaking at Tuesday’s ITFC On The Road event at Ufford Park near Woodbridge, Wordsworth said a move was close to being finalised: “It’s something that we’re looking at the moment.

“I obviously need to play a few games. I think that it’s something that will possibly happen, perhaps even tomorrow if everything gets sorted.”

As reported earlier in the week, we understand Southend and Preston have both shown interest in the Londoner, but it is another so far unnamed club with whom the Blues have been in more advanced discussions in recent days.

We haven't got the biggest squad but we have got (or at least have recently) had by far the most settled one in the division. This must mean that our fringe players are by far the least match fit in the division so these loans make a lot of sense. Far better to have a settled side comprised of 90% ITFC contracted players and loaning out the others short term than the opposite situation MM inherited! Well done to MM and TC for such sound management in just 12 months.

I hope he has a good loan spell wherever he goes. I feel he has been unlucky so far at Town as from what little I have see him play for Town (he hasn't had many games) he has impressed me as a good footballer and I wanted to see him playing regularly in the Town team. Goodluck to you Anthony & keep trying and hopefully the success you deserve, you will get in time!

On a more serious note ('Woking?' was irony!) I think Wordsworth has been most unfortunate since he arrived at !TFC, starting with a serious injury.

I'm all in favour of him going out on loan because, to me, he has the 'class' that we are missing at the present time and what he needs is match experience to turn him from the 'nearly man' to the full deal....the player who reads the game and can make those telling passes that open up defences.

Good luck Wordy, I'm one of your fans!
