Town Draw Preston
Sunday, 8th Dec 2013 16:11

Town have drawn League One Preston North End at home in the third round of the FA Cup.

The clubs have met in the competition on two previous occasions, in February 1954 when the Lilywhites won 6-1 at Deepdale, then in January 1980 when Town ran out 3-0 victors also on Preston territory with Paul Mariner netting twice and Alan Brazil once.

Simon Grayson's Preston beat Wycombe Wanderers 1-0 away in round two on Saturday, having beaten Barnet 6-0 in the first round. They are currently third in League One.

The teams last met in the Championship in the 2010/11 season when the Lancastrians won 1-0 at home and the Blues 2-1 at Portman Road.

The game is Town's first home FA Cup tie since the 3-0 victory over Chesterfield in January 2009. Third round ties will be played on the weekend of 4th/5th January.

It's good because we will go to round 4 easily.

Re some of the comments about ticket prices, the club don't get the final say, it's down to both clubs and the FA, who I seem to recall have a lowest price.

while I agree with comments that the prices should be lower for this game(and im sure they will be), you cant actually expect the club to bring them down so low that they end up making a loss on the game. I don't actually think that lowering the prices will improve the crowd by that many anyway, as for those fans who don't attend every match, preston at home isn't likely to be that attractive a draw for people. on the tie itself, on paper we should progress to the 4th round, but it is the fa cup, and its itfc we are talking about here. seen it so many times in the cup, where we lose games we should win. heres hoping it doesn't happen again.

Sindre94 - I take back what I said, if you have to travel like 100 miles then its understandable. No hard feelings.

Potential banana skin again for us, as over the last few years we have not performed well against lower league clubs, where as PNE as a club who has improved since last season will be certainly looking forward to it!

Regarding the s*it Im getting from that guy now, I wanna clear a simple thing up.
I prefer awaygames as I collect new grounds, so you can call me a groundhopper i suppose. What I mean by "funny" teams are either big PL clubs (means we'll bring alot of fans , therefore a great atmosphere), or a small club that's in the area, and hopefully a gorund I've never been to.
Brentford, Leyton Orient, Posh, Southend, Colchester, some of the teams I'd like us to draw :) but my number 1 pick would have to be the budgies away.

Can see that some think I'm a gloryhunter but that was absolutely not what I meant at all :)
When I spend so much money on travelling I'd like to see a decent game, not just a home game against a weaker side, in which we KNOW Mick will field alot of fringe players.
The last 12 games Town have played I've been to half of them, so I dont think Im much of a gloryhunter to be fair, considering I live in Norway.

Winnable but also a potential banana skin!

A lot will depend on whether MM puts out a full strength team or whether he decides to rest a few.

I think you'll be suprised at the team we field, i suspect it will near enough be the first 11 with maybe gerken and cresswell replaced as well as one possibly two others

Hoping for a win but they wont be easy, 3rd in league one atm so will probs will be playing with confidence, i suspect it will be a scrappy game

I believe Sindre travels from Sweden or Norway, so he has a point. Crazy2011, I trust you'll be there. Anyway I'm a bit disappointed by this draw to be honest, but it could've been worse, Millwall or some other 'boring Championship side' away for instance.

More supporters with their heads buried in the sand...look how we have performed over the last few years against opposition lower than us, I know we're more resolute now but don't take games like this for granted.

I was praying we didn't get Man city away, it would of been a Cricket score!
