West Brom Still Eyeing Cresswell
Tuesday, 10th Dec 2013 09:45

West Brom are continuing to keep an eye on Town left-back Aaron Cresswell, according to a report this morning. In October, TWTD reported that the Baggies, Southampton and Fulham were amongst the clubs regularly sending scouts to Portman Road to watch the 23-year-old in action.

According to the Daily Mirror, Albion view Cresswell, who is rated in the £3 million bracket, as someone who could add to their options at left-back with Macedonian international Goran Popov, on loan from Dynamo Kiev, not having impressed.

Cresswell was linked with numerous Premier League clubs in the summer but with none firming up their interest.

Manager Mick McCarthy has said on a number of occasions that he believes the Liverpudlian is "the best left-back in the Championship".

Former Tranmere man Cresswell is contracted to the Blues until June 2015 with his deal including an option for a further season.

Rovers are entitled to 20% of the profit Town would make on the £420,000 they paid for Cresswell if he is sold. A Football League tribunal set a compensation figure of an initial £240,000 plus milestone clauses with only a £100,000 payment on promotion to the Premier League not triggered.

I think he's too good for West Brom, am I the only one?

So Wilfried Zaha is valued as 5x more than Aaron Cresswell is? Having a laugh. Wouldn't want less than £4m or £5m plus a big sell on fee. Our run of form has definitely coincided with his return to the team. Best left back in the division by a country mile.

We all know it's only a matter of time. But Mings as a replacement? Really.

Assuming we net a substantial amount of £s for him, does MM get to invest it in the squad or will it get lost in wages/financial fair play red tape?

If cresswell is sold it should be for nothing less than 4 million and ud hope mick would be allowed to use the money to strengthen the squad!! But lets face it the wickham money was put back into the football club and not neccessarily the team!!! If evans is serious about this club we should keep cressie and add to the squad by spending a bit of money!!!

Jimmy86 I've just read about the payment delays / cash flow issues ... I'm not optimistic ... Even more reason to hang on to AC then! ... Although I have been pretty impressed with what I have seen of TM.

So it just goes to show that the faceless one and his 2 yes men are taking us along for a ride again!!! The 2 MD's are deluded if they think the steep ticket prices are acceptable in today's financial climate!!! Lower ticket prices=bums on seats, better atmosphere etc. January will be interesting

Looking at the number of goals we score as a result of his crosses selling him will end any hopes of the playoffs. Mings will take a long time to be as good.

Don't do it, Aaron! If the Baggies can't even beat the Budgies (who are crap but admittedly amazingly lucky) then you might find yourself back in the Championship sooner than you'd planned!

MM's balanced the books and we've slowed down the clubs losses...
I think if he goes for anything to a prem club, given he has 8 assists this season and is contracted up to the hilt and is happy here....it'll be more in the 5 million region!

For all we know there might have been a buy out clause when he signed his new contract. So what we get for him might depend on what that amount is.

Sorry but as he's our shouldn't we be setting the price? Is he really half the 1/3 of the player / value of wickam? Should be a lot more like 6

Aaron Cresswell is a really good championship player, but those of you that bother to watch the town these days would notice he lacks pace for the premiership, don't think he will go and sit on another teams bench, he will play every week here and who knows in May he might be PL player with town????

Let's hope that Popov perks up - we don't want Aaron popping off to Albion

In view of previous article re the clubs cash flow problems looks like MM will be lucky to hang on to Cressy, similarly one or two other of our saleable assets might also be at risk to enable the money to help prop up the ME empire.Wonder if the Joint M D's are still able to reiterate that money will be made available in January when club cant pay its existing bills?
It seems obvious that more money must come into the club.It will be interesting to see the attendance for the cup game against PNE,in view of the low admission prices.I am still under the impression that match day prices are too high for league games. Also on Saturday spoke to 4 former patrons of Legends who now go elsewhere due to high prices.
To improve cash flow Mick must keep the upward momentum in results and try and get as far as possible in the FA cup.I think he has done very well so far given the financial constraints that he is under. The trouble is if he is forced to sell his best players he may also be tempted to jump ship!
Looking on the bright side how ever he may get us to the promised land of the Premiership when Mr Evans will be reimbursed!!!

If we get atleast £4m and get a quality left-back then i wont complain, maybe David October could be the new Cressy?
