Hyam Out to Win Over Detractor Boys
Tuesday, 7th Jan 2014 19:22

Midfielder Luke Hyam says he’s determined to win over his detractors amongst the Town support. The 22-year-old was jeered by a section of the Blues support during the recent 1-1 draw with Watford.

“Obviously it’s not nice to hear but it’s all part and parcel of being a footballer,” the former Northgate High School pupil told the club site. “I’m a big boy and I can take it.

“I know that not everyone is going to like me. Football is all about opinions. It’s the manager’s opinion that is the main one but at the same time, I’d like to please the fans and win over all the supporters.

“Hopefully I can do that with my performances on the pitch. That’s what I’m aiming to do. We’ve got ourselves into the top six and I want to play my part in keeping that going.”

Meanwhile, Town have released details of ticketing for next Tuesday’s FA Cup third round replay at Preston.

Evidently, anyone booing the team is, by definition, no longer supporting them. The boo boys should take a long hard look in the mirror, and realise that by being a detractor, that they are in fact an extractor fan...

... unfortunately for you guys... I'm here all week...

The poor lad is only 21 (?) He might not be the most gifted footballer to come through our academy buts he's got potential and deserves our support. No one would argue he puts in a shift everytime he plays, he just needs to improve his game and gain some confidence. We all seem to be forgetting that players can improve!

The comments saying we didn't boo we just groaned are really annoying, some fans don't seem to understand how detrimental the constant groaning is to the team. How many times have we seen us play away and the home fans starts to get on the backs of their team and next thing you know their players are making mistakes left right and centre. It has an obvious effect.

The groaning seems to even come when we're comfortably passing the ball around but just because we don't immediately lump it in the box or have a shot the players get moaned at. The best teams would happily keep the ball moving for long spells, seemingly going nowhere. It's just being patient but and should be encouraged. Instead players get nervous on the ball and make mistakes.

Granted, it's not all down to the crowd but it makes a big difference and I guarantee we would s ee better football if we weren't moaning every five minutes.

Cakeman is 100% right it is down to instructions he is being given and we are a defensive outfit these days who look to win 1-0.
it is working quite well at the moment so nobodys moaning to much but in the premier league we would be blown away.need to follow swanseas lead and adopt a playing style or philosophy and stick with it for better for worse-this should be quick passing football with an attacking focus

talk about blowing something out of proportion. no one 'booed' Hyam . As stated the whole ground just let out a collective dissappointment when a move broke down. Think that is pretty common in football or should a big cheer go out after a pass is misplaced?. Think MM took that the wrong way, or maybe it was his frustration as well, and hence the bandwagon. You would probably have heard it less if the crowd were singing in the first place :) !!!

if anyone deserves a bit of stick its that waste of space wordsworth.
Watch the build up for the preston goal and the feeble effort put in by wordsworth to tackle the player before laying it through for davies..PATHETIC !!
At least with luke you get a 110% every minute of every match

Congratulations to everyone at the official club website for perpetuating the myth that any significant section of our support is not 100% behind Luke Hyam. If they keep asking Luke to comment on this non-event, maybe they can destroy the lads confidence altogether. They could then blame the fans for this.

It is good that Hyam has recognised the fact that supporters are allowed quite rightly to show their frustrations, etc., and that some of his performances have been below par. Hopefully, as he says here, this will spur him on to better performances. He is a young man learning the game. In my opinion, Skuse has been our best player this season and so playing alongside him a) makes it a difficult comparison for Luke and b) allows Luke to watch and learn. Yes, we should support everyone, in an ideal world, and generally I for one try to do so. But if you got a bad meal you'd complain. It's an entertainment business whether we like it or not and expectations are high - as are ticket prices. Fans should be allowed to react accordingly and as long as the manager is pleased with Hyam's performances, which he seems generally to be, what does it matter. Certainly Hyam is on the way up; his performance against Blackpool the game we lost 6-0 was the worst performance by an Ipswich player that I have seen since a rather poor game that Drissa Diallo had against Burnley I think it was... If he plays better, he will get the support of the few fans that boo him.

A small correction to this story. He was not jeered by a section of the Blues Support. He was jeered by a small section of spectators who have little football knowledge and take pleasure from being negative at any opportunity that presents itself.

I am sorry to say but people around me DID boo !!!! MM was quite right to react in the way he did . Those same people also booed Nouble and for the whole game shouted for him to be taken off as , to quote their words , he couldnt kick a toffee !

If he wasn't a local lad would you all be so supportive?

Can anybody please tell me what he adds to our game? Too many below par performances for my liking

What has he done to offend the Caribbean branch of the ITFC supporters club?

Luke is a decent lad, trying his best. Supporters should not boo their own players at matches, it's not helpful. He has taken the criticism on the chin so should be respected for that. Good luck on Saturday Town!

...... just carry on being the softest team in the Country to play for - and with an apparently high percentage of supporters who don't expect much, then why not ? - let's then look forward to another 12 seasons in the Championship at best.

For us who want, and expect more, we are not even supposed to remember, refer, or relate to the successful days we all remember so well - and most certainly NOT expect them to return.

Maybe that's about where we are as ITFC of today - sadly.

blueboy1981 added 17:43 - Jan 8
........ Hyam knows he's not playing as many would like him to - he's playing to MM's instructions.

Mick's 'buzz word' will always be DEFENCE - first, second, and third - and REALISTICALLY we all know that to be honest.

Dozzells_Bobblehat added 17:56 - Jan 8
blueboy - you are deluded. That's all

No actually its not all - blueboy , who says we cant look back on our clubs history , or refer to it , no one as far as i can see.
We all want the team to do well and all of us would love to see us in the PL, but unlike you we dont all think we have a divine right to it , and we dont CONSTANTLY compare the current squad to the one of our glory days.
WE had two of the country's best managers (if not the best) and they over achieved for a long period, and it was great.
BUT it probably wont return, accept that.
We can and should always strive for that just dont expect it and try being REALISTIC !!!
The most hilarious part of this is that as your alter ego h32 you backed MM and you have now decided you have changed your opinion and want your to soap box back and so have changed your name so as not to look foolish ! Very sad

Dozzells Bobblehat - and a few others sqeakers .... ... saddest part is most of you have no recollection of the Club's successful days because you didn't see them - so you have nothing to compare with - but you have plenty to say, and how many times do I have to tell you you are totally wrong in your aspersions, but of course you always know best don't you ??? - or think you do.
