Tottenham Eyeing Cresswell
Thursday, 23rd Jan 2014 09:36

Tottenham are the latest Premier League side reported to be eyeing Blues left-back Aaron Cresswell.

The 24-year-old, who recently signed a new contract until the summer of 2017, has regularly been linked with top flight clubs over the last 18 months with West Brom, Fulham and Southampton frequent visitors to Portman Road this season and Aston Villa having made an enquiry in the summer of 2012.

According to the Daily Mail recently appointed Spurs boss Tim Sherwood is keen to build his squad around a core of British players with a new left-back and striker amongst his priorities. Cresswell, Southampton left-back Luke Shaw and Burnley striker Danny Ings are said to be amongst those being watched.

A fortnight ago, TWTD reported that Tottenham were one of a number of Premier League clubs to have sent a scout to Town’s 1-1 FA Cup draw with Preston.

If Cresswell were to be sold, the Liverpudlian’s former club Tranmere Rovers would be entitled to 20% of the profit Town would make on the £420,000 they paid for him in the summer of 2011.

A Football League tribunal set a compensation figure of an initial £240,000 plus milestone clauses with only a £100,000 payment on promotion to the Premier League not triggered.

...... here we go again ........ - would have to improve to 'cut the ice' in the Premiership. Not always impressive in the Championship in my opinion - but others will see no wrong in him.

Seriously? Im doubtful that Cresswell would even make the bench for their carling cup team. If they have watched him then theres no way theyll make an offer. Nowhere near premiership material in my view, let alone a top6 club. The worlds gone mad and headlines like this have me going the same way!

Unfortunately we live in a world where clubs like us have to cash in if good offers for a player is on the table. I don't want Cresswell to leave but he is one of only a couple of saleable assets that we have. If its a good offer he will be sold.

I personally believe ME needs to invest a small amount into this squad, not millions, but we do need to strengthen.

Just because it's in the paper and pasted on here doesn't mean it's true Tim Sherwood said in an interview when he got the job he doesn't plan on buying anybody. Don't get the hysteria that surrounds none stories on here, every window Cresswell is LINKED to other clubs but his not premiership quality, you lot would know that if you watched him week in week out

blueboy1981.

I think you're missing the point. Not denying the figures, just presenting the facts surrounding them that so many people fail to grasp the concept of.

ME is and has pumped substantial funds into the club. IGNORE the debt figure, it's an accounting exercise.

dirtyboy - .... not disputing your point - BUT - What happens to this so called fictitious debt / accounting exercise in the instance of someone wanting to take the Club over - totally and utterly off putting from the onset I would guess. Hope you can enlighten me otherwise.

Please don't sell the truly outstanding player we have. MM will only squander the money on Noubles

at what point would anyone want to take over and how could they do anything different to ME? With financial fair play there'll be no more sugar daddies.
We'll only be sold if we get to the prem, if at all. Then the debt will be a minor issue. Again if we reach the prem, why would we need new owners?
Don't understand the logic of worrying about future owners, there is nothing they can do differently, ME is not a scam artist, if he is he's a very bad one!

Its obvious that Cressy signed a new deal a couple of months ago because unbeknown to us fans that there was and still is very strong interest. At the start of this season I was half expecting a serious bid this month so a lot of Town fans are going to be on the edge of there seats until the window closes. If we do receive a bid then it should be no less than £4 million in my opinion I'm hoping for about £million for a player that's only 24 and still has potential to fill heck, may be Town could negotiate a sneeky 10 or 20 percent sell on clause :)

Ming's can fill the left back position and it would make better business sense for a club that has seen too many million pound valued players leave for nothing over the last 3 or 4 seasons. We need to reduce our losses, I think Evans would give Mick some of the profits to reinvest in the team as we need it :)
