Palace Chairman Confirms Williams Loan
Thursday, 27th Feb 2014 09:44

Crystal Palace co-chairman Steve Parish has confirmed that midfielder Jonny Williams is joining the Blues on loan, initially for a month.

Parish told the South London Press that Williams needs game time: "Jonny is only going for a month initially because he is very close to our first team. He just needs to get a bit more sharpness and play games.

"If you look at people like Wilfried Zaha and Tom Ince they have played 100 games in the Championship.

“Jonny has had a very stop-start last couple of years and just needs to get some games. He played very well for our U21s [in the 2-1 victory at Portman Road] on Monday. He just needs to go out and play week in and week out.

"He might help get them promoted. He just needs some games. We didn't want to let him go until the end of the season because we don't know what our situation is going to be."

Parish says Town were one of three Championship clubs to enquire about Williams, Charlton are understood to have been one of the others, and the interest predated Monday's game: "We had three clubs who wanted him. The manager has got a good relationship with Mick McCarthy.

"Ipswich were interested before the game, it was just a coincidence we were playing them. It's a good place for him to go and Jonny is really happy to go there."

Wales international Williams looks set to go into the squad for Saturday’s home game against Birmingham City.

Cracking signing. Very exciting player who will look to beat players. This could be a huge coup, especially if Palace stay up!

Sounds like good news to me. Come on MM Hunty Skuse Williams and Anderson in midfield saturday with Taylor and Murphy up front. 3 points against a poor Birmingham side COYB

This signing is all about Mick choice of team for saturday end of.He sounds a good player but will luck as bad as the others if not played in hes proper position.Ifear Mick will flood the middle. This lad has to start i would love to see Green in middle with Williams but think Skuse will stay there thats my gripe Mick has to take out 1 of them 3 out for proper wingers maybe Taylor and Hunt.Mick at this stage give us an attacking team and dont let our season fizzle out..

At last! a midfielder with a bit of flair but have to say shame it's only for a month, can't help feeling this helps Palace more than what it does us. The type of player when need to sign really.

Agree with you as I feel Nouble is not ready yet for regular football, However living in Peterborough and talking to the Posh fans they are laughing at the price we paid for him, they feel he is a loose cannon on and off the field and he played well till he got a new contract at Posh, seems a patten here as this seem similar at Town.
Yet most on here seem to think he will be the man to take town up yet he has only played a handful of games.

I would prefer SEB up front instead of Taylor.
For me 6th place is quite some ask now so why not play SEB up front and put Taylor the right wing in place of Anderson or Edwards at least they will get 15 games to prove they have or haven't got it.

Noel whats the craic? For a fellow Dub you have some seriously anti-MM feelings that seem to go beyond anything he has done for the club. You don't ever give him any credit for the many good things he has done, you just focus on what you perceive to be bad things.
I wont argue that 100% of everything is rosy this season coz its not, definitely a few things have gone wrong this season, but you must acknowledge that MM has improved most things on both his predecessors (yes he IS a far better manager than Keane) and that considering he has been given no money for players he has brought in some very good free players who have been well organised for the most part, yes - difficult to beat and dogged, but I feel some people's expectations of playing like Brazil every week or better still ITFC circa 1979, are unrealistic until we have the spending power to bring the right players in (we do have some of them already but not in sufficient numbers to have cover or to rotate and keep fresh).
Some of the anti-MM people on TWTD seem to have no genuine reason for being so, but I suspect your feelings might go back to Saipan.

Great signing, even if it is for a month you never know if he likes it he may decide to stay longer. He has always looked like a very exciting talent.

A good move. Palace supporting mates of mine rate him VERY highly, and an attacking player (which we dearly need).

I'd like progress quicker (who wouldn't), but believe Mick is slowly building a promotion potential squad for next season. I think we do need to start seeing a little more youth in the squads from next season, though...

Hopefully he can put some 'defense splitting' passes to Nouble, so watch out supporters in the upper tiers no doozing off hopefully for this game!

bohslegend NO im not expecting Brazil football,Micks choice of player wouldnt allow that,do you disagree with me that no money Mick go in Richardson not playing.Green out of position,no goals Nouble deserves a start or Tabb keeps ANDERSON or wondsworth out cos if you do Mick cant go wrong.Again I repeat myself good job Mick keeping us up now its time to show the fans what we can do with a little freedom on the pitch thats most peoples issue.
