Marriott and Woking Beat Leaders
Monday, 17th Mar 2014 21:51

Jack Marriott and Woking pulled off a surprise 1-0 victory away against runaway Skrill Premier leaders Luton Town this evening.

The 19-year-old on-loan Blues striker was replaced on 85 and two minutes later his replacement Giuseppe Sole netted the game’s only goal.

Marriott, who is with the Cards until the end of the season, has scored 11 times in 17 games during his two spells with Woking, but is now without a goal in his last four matches.

I watched the game, and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of football...especially by Woking. Marriott in truth was relatively quiet and caught offside a few too many times, however, he showed willing and really put a shift in closing the opposition down. The one real chance he did have, he hesitated, took too many touches and in the end the chance was lost. With full confidence he would have hit it first time into the back of the net...perhaps a recall to town and a place in the squad would provide that confidence..?

@elalaer9 - you have it backwards, he should get confidence playing at that level rather than really getting discouraged playing at a level he is not yet ready for.

@nysully - I wasn't suggesting that was the way forward, I was asking the question. I tend to agree with your approach, and the conference is so tight that Woking could mount a challenge on the playoffs, giving him the chance to get that confidence back.

I watched the game Marriott was a bit of a disappointment seems to me, he is not good enough to get into the Town team, he did work hard

Typical current Ipswich player.. Sound out their praises, and then watch them go down the pan..

Thought Marriott played okay last night, but by no means the stand out player on the pitch. Not sure he is ready to play in the championship week in week out. He could not get in Gillinghams team!

I have no doubt he'll be a good player, but perhaps not just yet.
