Reading Draw Sees Town Drop to Eighth
Monday, 14th Apr 2014 23:32

Town dropped to eighth in the Championship this evening after Reading jumped back to sixth following a 1-1 draw with Leicester at the Madejski Stadium.

Alex Pearce opened the scoring for the Royals, who ended the game with 10 men following Mikele Leigertwood’s late second yellow card, but Danny Drinkwater equalised for the Foxes shortly before the break.

The result moves Reading back into the final play-off place on goal difference (+13) ahead of Brighton (+12) and Town (+8) with all three sides having 64 points and four games left. To assess how the remaining weeks of the season might pan out, try to the TWTD League Calculator.

Elsewhere, a Town U21 side beat Bournemouth 2-1 in a behind closed doors friendly at Playford Road this afternoon. Paul Taylor and on-trial Tottenham striker Darren McQueen were on the scoresheet, while Norwich academy left-back Ben Wyatt was also in the side.

Meanwhile, Town’s potential involvement in the play-offs and the Barry Manilow concert soon afterwards have led to Suffolk FA’s four county cup finals having to be moved from Portman Road to other venues.

From the last 2 games Reading have earned 1 point and Tractor Boys 6..it doesn't get much better than that. But we need to keep on winning. Come on lads...one game at a time.
I have booked my flight for May 24 at Wembley!

Brighton have an easy run-in. We don't need to worry about Reading.

Can we beat Watford, Bournemouth and Burnley? Sadly, I doubt it. I fear 7th place by a point or on goal diff!

On the bright side, we may be playing Norwich next season - unless they can beat Liverpool, Man Utd, Chelsea and Arsenal !!! (knowing their luck, they probably will)

Not important that we were 7th and now we're 8th. What's important is that we were level on points with the playoffs, and now we still are. A Reading defeat would've been ideal but the main thing was for them not to make a gap again.

We are 8th on goal difference so I prefer to think of us as joint 6th.We can do it but it's not gonna be easy but so nice not to be in a relegation battle.

I know its sounds cloud cuckoo land but If we win on saturday we could well be one point off fifth yes wigan will have a game in hand but we are very much in the mix and who knows how the wigan squad will react to there defaeat to Arsenal. We really could do with at least one big victory out the next four fixtures. Only seven more games to play and the promised land is ours!! COYB!!

Wigan are no longer home and dry, as they have a fairly tough run-in, including a six-pointer v Reading next. A point each would be perfect for us. And if Blackpool pull off a shock (and they are fighting for their lives) then they might fall back into the pack.

So it seems to me that the must-win for us is Bournemouth - if we don't win that, then we are dead in the water. The other three games, we might be able to get away with as few as 4 points, but obviously the more the better!

It's great just to be involved, and if we can gate-crash the party, wonderful. Couldn't help thinking that the Sky commentators were really rooting for Reading last night.

That is quite a stinker of a run in for Wigan. Could well cause them some trouble. B'ham and Blackburn wont be pushovers on their own patch, even if they wont have anything to play for.

I still believe we can sneak a win on Saturday and Monday, sneak a point at Burnley and then take all 3 off Sheff Wed. So we really are right in the mix!

Absolutely buzzing for saturday and Watford! I knew i moving away to MK for a job 3 years ago was a good idea! COYB's!

The fixture really has fallen nicely for us this weekend at least. Wigan, Brighton, Reading, Bournemouth & Blackburn all play Friday leaving us knowing exactly where our result against Watford will leave us. Given a clear goal I hope we can snatch a momentous victory.

Im with you @ Eeyore, its Brighton for me. Hitting form just now and they have the plum run in. Leicester winning the league when they did was the killer for me. Three days later, Leicester 1 - 4 Brighton. Without that result we would be in the driving seat.
Surely our luck will change at Watford sometime....(last year was not it hopefully - what I wouldnt give for a last minute winner as last year on a warm Tuesday night. Big Frank doing what Chopra did anyone?)
COYB Boys.......PLLLEEEAAASSSEEEE!

This is all very exciting times, obviously the playoffs would be the dream land, But whatever happens now we've had a cracking ride, one in-which we've been without for years, the main priority is for us to get behind Mick and TC over the summer and right from the off next season.
In terms of playoffs, we could do this. We've beaten both Brighton (twice home and away, comfortably) and also Reading (At home and a narrow defeat at the beginning), we need to build on the cracking atmosphere being heard from the Sir Bobby Robson and really push these Ipswich players home (first team for years who are playing for the shirt), Come on you Bluessss!!

Been thinking this too. If we play as well as we are capable of doing, then I see us getting three wins and a draw (at Burnley). But 4 wins isn't beyond the realms of possibility either. I thought Reading were poor under the pressure of the 'occasion' last night....lots of un-forced errors and Wigan have the toughest run-in.

I just hope we can go into the last game still in with a chance of making the top 6.

Our best season for years. Now lets go and bang some goals in, who knows. Can imagine the angst should we pass Norwich going in opposite directions....

Still feel it's anybody's to pinch that 6th spot and I wouldn't rule Bournemouth out just yet because they drew at the weekend. Wigan won't slip up, they're far to good I feel to do that at this stage of the season (anybody who saw the FA Cup game would agree). Brighton are now on a run by and large due to that Leicester away win (and let's face it they got REALLY lucky playing them after the hangover of promotion).
Bad thing is we have our bogey team Watford up next and we've only beaten them once in about 5 or 6 years, it might be more.

Wigan v reading is kinda win win for us, saying all of this we need to beat Watford which I couldn't call! I assume we will take a lot of away fans, been to Watford away, with that whole end behind the goal we take over the stadium! Play offs a massive possibility!

gonna be so tight
I do agree with Eeyore think we'll just miss out , Brighton do have the easier run it
Watford are by far our bogey side, last time I saw us beat them Venus scored a screamer
Waford could be anything and Burnley need to break out the fizz and get promoted theve got the jitters at the mo and I want it done and dusted by the time we play em
Bournemouth also have 1 more days rest than us going into the game as well , would rather have played Watford on the Good Friday
whatever happens you gotta give it to mick terry and the lads, all done on a budget of fcuk and with the top goalscorer crocked
any ipswich fan would have taken this finish at the start of the season
are you watching Keane / Jewell
imagine what mick could have done with the money they had !!!!

Am hoping we're still in the mix come last game of the season, But......Think Watford away will be really tough and i can't see us coming away with anything there.

Prove me wrong Pleeaassse !

Still hoping to make the play-offs but Watford are a bogey side and Brighton have an easy run in. Did the league calculator and saw us in 7th spot, losing out to Brighton and Wigan! Still a very good performance with a smallish squad and without our top striker for two months.

Good result for us. Reading were the home team, so two points dropped against a team who are already promoted and nailed on for the title. Tough run in but it's about holding your nerve at this stage of the season.

Ebantiass added 18:31 - Apr 15
Just done the calculator with all the teams around us and we came 8th level on points 71 with Reading and Brighton but with a worse goal difference. Brighton took sixth slot.
