Charlton Defender Linked Friday, 20th Jun 2014 12:50 Town, Rotherham and Wigan are reported to be eyeing out-of-contract Charlton Athletic centre-half Michael Morrison. Rumours that the Blues were keeping tabs on Morrison surfaced on the TWTD Forum last month and now the South London Press claims that Town, the Millers and Latics are all showing interest in the 26-year-old, whose Charlton terms are up at the end of the month. Previously, Middlesbrough dismissed reports linking them with Haverhill-born Morrison, while Blackpool, who are now managed by former Addicks boss Jose Riga, have also been mentioned in connection with the six-foot tall central defender. However, Charlton are understood to be keen to keep him at the Valley. Given the limited budget and other areas of the side appearing in greater need of strengthening, Town moving for another experienced central defender seems unlikely with Christophe Berra, Tommy Smith and Luke Chambers already in the squad and youngster Tyrone Mings a further option for boss Mick McCarthy. Morrison, who can also play at right-back, came through the ranks at Cambridge United, breaking into the first team as a 17-year-old during the 2005/06 season. While at the Abbey Stadium Morrison won eight England C caps, scoring three times, before moving on to Leicester City in the summer of 2008. In January 2011 he joined Sheffield Wednesday on a three-and-a-half-year deal, but after only six months at Hillsborough signed for Charlton, where he has been a regular for the last three seasons, making 143 starts and three sub appearances and scoring eight goals.
