Hungarian Striker at Town
Monday, 21st Jul 2014 12:23

Borussia Dortmund B striker Bálint Bajner will be at Town today, hoping to win a deal with the Blues.

According to the Daily Mirror, the free agent 23-year-old Hungarian is keen to break into English football and will join Town if he impressed boss Mick McCarthy in what's likely to be a week's trial.

Szombathely-born Bajner played youth football with hometown club Haladás and then FC Sopron in Austria, where he first broke through into senior football.

He joined Romanian club Liberty Oradea in 2007, moving to West Ham on loan for the 2008/09 season, where he featured for their U18s and reserves. However, the Hammers opted not to take up an option to sign the 6ft 5in tall frontman on a permanent basis the following summer.

Bajner, who has been capped by Hungary at U19 level, joined Honved back in Hungary in 2009, then moved on to Italian lower division side ASD Sulmona Calcio in 2011.

After a short spell at Hungarian club Bodajk FC Siófok he joined Dortmund in the summer of 2012.

His one substitute appearance for their first team came last season with the rest of his football having been played with their B team in the third tier of German football. While with Dortmund B he scored nine goals and recorded five assists in 52 games.

Mauritian international midfielder Kévin Bru is also at Town this week and the duo are unlikely to be the only trialists due at Playford Road with clubs running the rule over numerous hopefuls at this time of year.

Meanwhile, Town are again reported to be in talks with central defender Christophe Berra regarding a new contract. Speaking last week, manager Mick McCarthy said Town would look at offering new deals to current players once he had added more new recruits to his squad.

Elsewhere, former Blues loan keeper Stephen Henderson’s switch to Charlton has been confirmed. The Irishman has signed a three-year deal following his exit from West Ham by mutual consent.

@whosgroundisitanyway & @Wickets I like to emphasize him being 65ft tall because....it's so blatantly obvious that we should sign him.....can't emphasize this enough ;)

Having said this there's going to be a catch isn't there?....like, him wanting £20k a week say :( or that he wants to sign for a premier league club :(

....don't really want to tempt fate :(

A 65ft player could tap in without crossing the half way line.

No Budgies is spot on. The non tinted specs brigade as I now affectionately call them will without fail

Whinge that the youngster don't get a chance, but whinge when we don't sign players that will push them further down the pecking order.

Demand youngsters play, then slate said youngsters when they do.

Demand we pay fees for players (in an era when the free talent pool is as large as it has ever been) but complain when the debt increases as a result. (They would like ME to essentially gift the club money hand over fist and have no compression of the need to run a small club sustainably, especially one that looses money hand over fist)

Complain that our scouts arnt searching far enough, then whinge because the club as the audacity to offer a trial (not even a contact) to a couple of players from foreign shores.

Stanger still despite MM's approach delivering the highest league finish for years they demand yet more good money is thrown after bad.

Last few transfer fees laid out- Priskin - Which got us? Nowhere. Whos impact was? Nothing vs MCG who was free, Which got us? What looks like a realistic 20 goals a season who's impact was? Many goals and a real threat.

Taylor- Still to come anywhere near repaying his fee
Edwards and Leadbetter, Carlos I will allow but more for service and attitude than real contribution (I admit being played out of position did not help him). As for GL took his fat wages then hightailed to boro whilst achieving squat at town

Fulop- Who conceded to many goals and failed to marshal his defence with any effectiveness. The fact is no one has ever yearned for his return and that is with Gerkin in goal, ALB was more popular.

So chucking money at it hasn't worked. To answer earlier question where did the fees from Rhodes and Wickham go? on overinflated fees for mostly crap players as per above and over inflated wages for the above alongside messers Bowyer (how much must he have been on), Bullard, Chopra, Scotland (who we also paid actual money for!),

Plus signing on fees, plus agents fees, plus wages plus every other cost associated with running a football club.

ME has kept this club afloat and in the champ where Sheff U, Sheff Weds, Cov, Pompey, Leeds (all arguably bigger clubs at least in terms of turnover and from bigger cities/towns at least in terms of catchment) have failed.

As Einstein said- "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results" and that is what many of you advocate (some more eloquently than others) Chuck more money at it. It didn't work for Magilton (although he had the best crack at it), It didn't work for Keane, It didn't work for Jewell so what's the solution? Again, more and more and more until you decide its time to whinge about the debt again but how did the debt get that big? Because the club has already tried what you are suggesting and it failed.

In Mick We (I) Trust, so far nothing has given me any reason to think anything else.

Maybe we will have a good year, maybe not, but this much I know. Micks squad will (with the possible exception of Taylor) give blood, sweat and tears for each other on the pitch which is a damn sight more than I can say for any of rag tag bag of final payday seekers and over hyped Jonnie Footballs his predecessors signed (Magilton Excused).

All this hysteria over a couple of trialists. Can you blame the club for changing tack after recent years? No. Can you blame them for staying that course after the huge turn around in fortune it has thus far produced? No.

And all before a ball has even been kicked! Honestly some people on here are becoming more hysterical than a herd of tweens who have just been told 1 direction have split up.

Calm down dear its only a trial.

COYB! BlueandTrue out.

Bit concerned about how a few are saying that McGoldrick and Murphy will be our first choice up front.

McGoldrick has not kicked a ball so far this pre season and no one knows when he will be fit enough to play first team football

Sorry am filled with dread if we are going to rely on Nouble and young Marriott to score the goals we need to advance this season if Mcgoldrick is knackered!!

floridaboy .............. absolutely right - the comments you refer to are clearly from people who watch the game, but know NOTHING about it.

Blue and true. I think you are confusing opinion to whinging or moaning. As I have said before, my expectation when selling Cresswell was we would have the money to spend on a modest fee player. What's wrong with looking at players who cost a small fee? It's hardly demanding we spend money. My opinion is based on evidence. Burnley recruited sensibly last summer but also splashed out a few quid on a decent quality player which ultimately helped them achieve promotion. In contrast we tailed off at the end of the season after doing well up to Christmas.

People are entitled to their opinion and just because they don't agree with you doesn't make them wrong. I personally feel with question marks over McGoldricks fitness that we are weak up front. My opinion won't change. Murphy has his strength, but you can't rely on his goal scoring to win a big match. Nouble doesn't score goals. I doubt Taylor is seen as an out and out striker, whilst I hope Marriott breaks through and scores loads of goals, but again have my doubts in the short term.

Across the board, this team lacks goals and signing a midfielder who has scored one on 26 games and a striker who has scored just nine in 52 for a B side, personally doesn't do it for me ... Particularly when other clubs have spent fees on better strikers.

So just where should we be looking and who should we be looking at to bolster our attacking options?

Bear in mind any such player should (A) Score 15+ goals a season (B) Be available on a free or very cheap.

Not as easy as some make out so try before you buy is a sensible approach!

Any other suggestions as to who we should be looking at?

Blueboy and indeed Jas I agree, I have no issue with people disagreeing with me. As I said to you Jas I dont expect you to change your mind.

My issue is this, some posters DO seem to change their opinion very frequently and always in the opposite direction to the one which the club takes. EG typical post from such a poster last year "cant believe Marriot is out on loan, Why wont Mick play him?" Yet now when it looks like he might actually play some games, especially with MCG injured it's "not sure about Marriot, unproven, we need a striker" now im not pointing the finger at youper se but I don't need to point at all. We can all see it.

I agree that maybe a fee could be spent and I trust Mick to spend wisely but it seems a philosophy is in place that is working for us at kwast at yhe moment, if it aint broke and all that. If it breaks fine, you sack the manager and change tack. If we have a crap season i would expect MM to go.Also Burnley did have a few seasons of parachute payments to swell the coffers.

blueboy, I'm sure you understand if I take with a pinch of salt questions about entitlement to opinion from someone who constantly berates other posters for having the audacity to mark down his posts and theefore disqgree with him.

And my initial point which I totally then forgot. We haven't signed them, they are on trial. Coincidence a Mauritan is on trial as our coach is in the cayman islands? I do on the whole belive in giving players a chance. None of us have seen these guys. Also Jas I would say you and I in fact broadly agree, we need a decent striker and creative CMF but tell me this, would you turn down Johnnyesta on a seasons loan?

There used to be a saying "speculate to accumulate". A sensible investment will be needed to take the club to the next level. I reiterate the word sensible..........There is no doubt MM has created a great team spirit & camaraderie who will run themselves ragged, however a bit of extra quality is what is now required. Sensible spending on a couple of players can make all the difference ( see Burnley). Quality commands a fee. We now have a manager who surely can be trusted enough to open the purse strings sensibly for.

Blue and true ... Noted. For the record, I thought it was a good idea that Marriott was sent out on loan last year and wouldn't be against the idea this season. Think he needs a run in a division one side, something he didn't get last year. Hence, in my opinion a need for a new striker.

'Coincidence a Mauritan is on trial as our coach is in the Cayman Islands?'

Apart from the fact that they are almost 10,000 miles away from each other?

Midfielders who score 15 goals a season or strikers that score 20 are simply not coming here. We can't afford them. We must trust MM & TC to find possibles to work with. They simply want a closer longer look at these guys and then decide.
BTW how many proven players did Sir Alf or Sir Bobby sign? They both took gambles and pieced together great teams. George Burley made some bold signings too.
There just might be another Kevin Beattie or Paul Mariner or Matt Holland or Marcus Stewart out there waiting for their big chance. Maybe another Wark, Butcher, Dyer, Bent may be on the way through the junior / youth teams. One thing is certain now though, and that's that we can't afford to buy the finished articles. A team is like a jigsaw, not all the pieces have to be pretty to make the picture complete, you just need the right pieces in the right place and it will come together.

Lets have some faith and hope we find a gem.

Amusing how we sift through the dregs of the free transfer market and then charge 30 quid to watch them

Some of these comment, arrgh, c'mon guys who do you expect us to sign Gareth Bale?
This guy is in the Dortmund B team and he needs to have some potential to be there, and some of the goals in those highlights are spectacular. Yh sure he's playing in the German 3rd division and only scored 9 goals but everyone has to start somewhere, he will improve as he's young he's not the finished article, and from the vid he has potential, most clubs that go up have foreigners in there side and that's no coincidence, he will be a good signing if we get him.

Bergholtblue added 08:58 - Jul 22
Whilst I am not going to get carried away watching a 2 minute video of his highlights but someone that size will scare the crap out of some of the defenders in this league. Even if he does not score dozens of goals if he can win the ball and hold it up long enough for our midfielders to meander forward to join the attack, he may just what we need.

Someone said " a Hungarian Crouch" he reminded me more of Birmingham's Zigic
