Tickets Selling Well for East Anglian Derby
Tuesday, 5th Aug 2014 18:05

Town have sold almost 21,000 tickets for the East Anglian derby with Norwich City on Saturday 23rd August (KO 12.15pm).

The club say some areas have already sold out with no ticket sales taking place at the ground on the day of the match. Portman Road has a capacity of just over 30,000, although segregation and security reduce that figure for derby matches.

The deadline to have purchased tickets to be posted out is 8.30am on Thursday 21st August, while the latest tickets can be bought in person at Planet Blue is 4.30pm on Friday 22nd August.

Fans whose customer number has a purchasing history from within the last 10 seasons can buy a ticket via ITFC Direct and print it out at home up until kick-off. Norwich are expected to sell out their allocation of more than 2,000.

We must be Top of the League when it comes to part-time supporters

Probably the biggest game we've had since the last time we played them. Just praying we get a much better result! Absolutely gutted I can't make it.

Let's get Portman Road rocking this season, especially for this match. Anyone know how many will be at the Fulham game? Heard they have requested more tickets.

COYB!!

Me being an upcoming supporter I haven't yet experienced an almost packed Portman road yet having had a season ticket for the third season now, so it would be nice to get this one full! I couldn't get to the Arsenal game in the semi finals and was gutted about that, can't wait. COYB

I've got a ticket in the SBR upper stand. If anyone in the lower stand would want to swap with me, I'd be absolutely thrilled! let me know :)

It wont sell out. Last week I bought 4 extra tickets in cobbold upper for £43 each. That was on top of my season ticket. The price is shocking. I did notice though that there was still lots of tickets available in cobbold upper. More to the point if we've sold 21000. Thats only about 8000 on top of season ticket holders.

Let's face it, if we can't get a packed PR for this one what chance do we have?

It would be good to see some of those coming, just for this game, turning up at the other matches too. A good atmosphere, good football and a positive result would help with that.

Fingers crossed but still being a cynical optimist on the above.

Let's ignore the negatives people! I'm not driving all the way down from Durham to hear you lot moaning about part-time supporters who were there in dismal 94/95 bit whose personal circumstances mean we can't make it every week!

I remember a time when you couldn't get a ticket for this match many weeks in advance. Sold out. Sadly, I fear the ticket pricing structure is mostly to blame for slower ticket sales? Or perhaps it's the poor standard of football witness for a number of seasons now? Or a mixture of both? I am a season ticket holder so am looking forward to the game, but am interested why we can no longer sell out these type of games ... Quickly!

At some point the football bubble has to burst. Someone posted an item on here the other week. The article stated that ticket prices had risen somewhere in the region of 7000 % since the early 90s. Considering most people's wages have stagnated that kind of rise is shocking. But more importantly where does it all end. My book is on disaster. If we do get promoted how much will our season tickets rise by.

They will maybe sell another 2,000. As I predicted a while back it will be around 23K in total. The only way this match was going to sell more than 25K at these prices was if we offered Norwich a bigger allocation.

Sadly, if we were promoted crowds would be no larger.

The cheapest ticket is 32 rubs and that is, frankly, an outrage. As a result, our ground will be 3 quarters full, in our derby game, on live TV. Won't be at all embarrassing. And this Category A, B and C bo*locks they've introduced is another spectacular con. This has really wound me up, and I've been looking forward to this game for so long...

And WHY won't they sell tickets on the gate..?! What, are they afraid a load of hooooligans are going to turn up to start trouble with the opposing fans, while surrounded by police and while their every move is watched on CCTV..?

I hope the game will be close to selling out but I reckon it'll be more like 25,000. Bit lower or higher is possible. We would definitely sell out if prices were lower and it's a shame because it's a problem at a lot of clubs. It's been said for a while but the whole ticket situation at the club needs a review again. The positive news is that we have sold more season tickets this season than last. Would be great to see a full Portman Road! Hopefully more decide to go

COYB!

Norwich had the worst away record in the prem last year, so please MM have a go at them.

If we can't sell out for the biggest game do the season for our only derby which hasn't been played for 3 years then the club need to sort themselves out.

A game I'll definitely try and make. Don't get to enough Town games these days.

I'd give Norwich more tickets. Just take their money, why not.

All this talk of selling out the match - when was the last time Portman Rd was "sold out" ?

Steve_ITFC_Sweden added 09:32 - Aug 6
Naarwich sell out for every game. They even did this in League 1, which was pretty amazing. Granted Naarwich is quite a bit bigger than Ipswich and with a larger catchment area, but I do not believe East Anglian fans are essentially different in terms of loyalty to their respective clubs. We used to fill the ground on derby day. So it must be down to pricing. Now we are run as a business first and a football club second.

It certainly seems like the price is a factor as this game used to sell out pretty quickly in years gone by.The categorising of matches is a big factor and £32 for the cheapest seat is too expensive and the fact it is Live on Sky will prob mean we have empty seats which is crazy for an East Anglia Derby game.

Fixed_It added 12:22 - Aug 6
I assume everyone above has missed the fact that the game being live on TV has prevented this match being a sell-out. It would 100% have been a sell-out if it wasn't on Sky. Of course, real fans will get there if they can. COYB!
